The staff at this facility were, for the most part, hard working and friendly; however, we did experience a couple of employees that would mistreat our family member and we reported them immediately. The facility was in an older building and while there was room for improvement, there were new renovations going on to keep the rooms and equipment up to date. All in all, I would have to say that our experience here was enjoyable. There are pros and cons to all long term care facilities.

My husband was a resident of Big Springs Specialty Care Center in 2009. While he was in the rehabilitation part of the center I honestly could not have asked for better care for him. The nurses and staff were polite and friendly and frequently checked on my husband. When my husband was moved from rehabilitation to long term care however, his care worsened. He was not checked on as frequently nor were phone calls I requested to be made during certain events made. Staff in the long term care part of the center were often rude to my husband, my family members and myself. Shortly after my husband was moved to long term care in this facility he died. His cause of death was heart failure due to low blood sugar. I feel the inadequate care he received while in long term care was the direct cause of his low blood sugar and subsequent death. I would not recommend long term care at this facility to anyone for any reason.
