"I am very impressed with Sarah Reed with regards to the cleanliness, layout, amenities available. The staff is very welcoming and caring, and really seem to care about the residents. My mother-in-law is much better and safer at Sarah Reed than when she was living alone. She has dementia and the facility takes care of her basic needs. Plus, as the disease escalates, my mother-in-law will automatically be transferred to the nursing home which involves more care. Right now, my mother-in-law is considered "independent" although she goes down to the dining room three times a day for her meals. If she forgets, a worker calls her room to remind her, and if she doesn't answer the phone, someone goes immediately to her room to check. There are an incredible number activities for the residents, including parties, recitals (music, readings, etc.), games (bingo, cards, etc.). Even a library is available to the residents and family members. Visitors have to sign in and out. There is very limited parking for some residents who are able to drive. We have eaten lunch with my mother-in-law in a private dining room which was lovely... the food is very good and much better than we expected. One concern we do have is that my mother-in-law could walk out without being noticed since the receptionist is not right in front of the entrance... she's hidden behind a glass window. My mother-in-law seems content for the most part but occasionally threatens to "go back home" which doesn't exist anymore. We are impressed by the decor of the facility and the fact that there are handles/bars along both sides of the corridor walls for residents to hold onto. The elevators are very large to accommodate wheelchairs and walkers. Although there are a lot of activities, we wish that the workers would actually encourage residents to participate... by calling their rooms or actually visiting them to prod them. Staff comes into the rooms on a monthly basis to do a thorough cleaning. I wish the bathrooms were cleaned more frequently, maybe weekly. Not sure if that is done. I'll have to check. All in all, Sarah Reed is wonderful and perfect for my mother-in-law at this time. It's very reasonable and assurances have been made that when the money runs out, they will keep her under Medicaid. This is very comforting. Our family is very blessed to have found Sarah Reed. "

"My grandmother recently stayed in this nursing home while recovering from a hip injury. I was very pleased with the first shift staff at the home. They were professional, attentive and seemed to really care about their duties. I was sometimes not pleased with the second shift staff though. They seemed to be much less staffed and under a lot more stress than first shift. This caused a longer delay in them tending to my grandmothers needs if she rang her call bell. I made sure to visit her more often during the second shift hours to be sure she was getting all that she needed. The facility was very beautiful, with half of it being nearly brand new. The brand new portion of the building was where my grandmother stayed and it was always well kept and clean. Overall, the experience was a good one and I would recommend the facility to other people in the future. "

"My dad was in Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Erie for a week. They're very good over there. Their staff explained to you, and they called me quite often to give me updates on my dad because there were days that I can't go there, since it's far from where I live. They always took time with him, and they cheered that he just did what he was supposed to do. The food looked great. They had everything you could possibly think of. They're very well equipped with everything, their therapy rooms, everything was just awesome. They had games, chair games, but he did not participate. He figured being in therapy was enough for him to do."

"I've recently made the long & way past-due trip to the Beautiful Erie, PA to visit Grandma at Nightingale Nursing and Rehab Center, Apparently the facility is operating under new ownership since the last time we made the trip, over a year ago.. which is the main reason I was motivated to write this review, Grandma was reminiscing the St. Mary days & although they were great, but the new admin & staffing are not comparable to say the least.. We we're warmly greeted by smiling faces from the second we came through the main entrance all through the hallways, which kinda says it all.. The Staff we're ultra friendly & caring, all across the facility was very clean and well maintained! What is usually a dreadful visit was a real "Delightful Experience" all and all! "

"So my dad has been there many years and at first arrival he was weak and just sat had to be lifted and moved.. After time he grew stronger and was able to use his wheel chair and wheel himself and roam and do activities and socialize. As his problems progressed he needed full time vent so his roaming ended and he depended more and more on staff. My dad can be cranky and not to honorable at times but staff mentioned and acknowledged his behaviors but still did their jobs and worked with him. Time has passed and he can no longer can even do want he had left to do and look forward to daily he was put on a feeding tube. ( and it was his decision to eat as long as he had, no fault to the nursing home) He has been sent to the hospital off and on a lot lately weeks pass and hes in the hospital then... back and forth. Which is why im wright this, I want to say I truly appreciate all that's been done on his behalf by the Presque Nursing home and rehab because we live in a time of the virus and my dad when sent to the hospital and tested was negative....... Thank you all the staff for keeping it away from him!!!! Thank you !!! I have had other family members who have been in this place and I have had my concerns but as far as safety from the virus I am very grateful."

"Golden Living is a beautiful assisted living home. The environment feels like a hotel, not a assisted living facility. The staff is friendly and courteous and really seems to have the best interest of the residents in mind. There are common areas for visiting with family and other residents. Although I did not personally eat the food that was provided, our grandmother reported that she enjoyed it very much. I would recommend Golden Living to anyone looking for a welcoming and beautiful place for their loved one, especially if cost is not an issue. "

"My brother moved to LECOM Senior Living Center. He's living in a whole house that has three bedrooms. He's right now in there alone. He needed 24-hour care. He has a housekeeper and a nurse who comes in, and somebody does his cooking and cleaning for him. It's got a front yard and a back yard. Porches on either side. He's not allowed to smoke inside but he is allowed to smoke outside on the porch, which was a big thing for him too. He couldn't have any animals so he had to get rid of his cat. When you first walk in, you walk into this great big kitchen that has everything, a stove and a refrigerator. These people also go grocery shopping for the residents. They just asked him what he would like to eat and they went grocery shopping for him. Then came down to the little hall and there's a door to the basement. On the right side, there's a bedroom that has a little closet, a smaller bedroom and then you come out of that, there's the bathroom. There's a great big living room, with 55 inch TV on the wall. Cable and internet are included. Everything is included in his rent. He pays $893 a month. There's a bigger bedroom which they just moved him into because the other guy wasn't coming back. There's a basement downstairs, a big basement, and a garage that he can store his stuff in. It's a nice house. Hardwood floors. It's a beautiful house. I've met some of the staff. They come in and they play games with them and play cards and do things with them. They did some kind of crystal thing the other day. He likes it."

"The facility itself was very, very nice. It was brand new, and well designed. My grandmother liked the facilities because they were well lit, spacious and lush. Many good things to look at. The operations of the facility were not nominal. They were very understaffed and the staff were undertrained and inexperienced. The staff often had very little information on my grandmothers needs, they were rushed and made many mistakes. The managment was difficult to get ahold of and were difficult to work with when changes to her care needed to be made. "

"My grandmother was put in the nursing home after falling and not being able to get around like she used to. She was 83 when she moved in. The rooms arent as nice as other homes that I have seen and she has a roommate but other than that the home is a good place. They have many activities and social events for the residents, which is great. My grandma loves to take part and socialize. She really loves her nurses, they have become like family to her. We go to visit her every weekend. She has now been living at abington crest for 2 1/2 years. "

"My mother was at Forestview. She had occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy. We were not impressed with the staff. The wait time was really long. The ratio of patients to aides was approximately 9 to 1, resulting in a very long wait time. Once, she waited an hour and a half to use the bathroom. It was a nice place, but there were no private rooms, either."

"I think there were a number of nurses that were there for a pay check and not really taking care of the residents to the best of there ability. Luckily the staff really liked my grandmother and took good care of her while I was not thre. I just would not want to be on the bad side of the nurses. The rooms were ok, it was nothing fancy. "

"Saint Mary's was a very nice place for my grandmother to stay after she had a stroke. She needed assistance with everyday tasks like cooking and laudry but was still able to care for herself. The staff at Saint Mary's assisted her with what she needed without "over helping" in a way that would further disable her. Thanks to their loving support and assistance she was able to regain use of her left arm and is now back home living on her own. The facility is clean and has an inviting astmosphere. "

"On May 26, 2023 my Daughter who is a CRNA, Health Professional and myself a retired State Drug Enforcement Agent met with Megan J, an Addmissions Coordinator at Manchester Commons. We were inquiring about memory care for my wife. We first noticed the clean and fresh atmosphere of the facility. Megan was thorough in her presentation to us, very personal and pleasant. We were shown the resident rooms, activity and dining areas. We were very impressed with everyone and everything at the facility. Our work background told us this was an excellant facility to care for our wife/ mother. I can not express enough how pleasant our feelings were upon reviewing everything at this facility. Thank You"

"I placed my grandmother at Edinboro Manor. It was a good experience. The staff, I thought, was excellent there; they were attentive. The rooms were nice. They had a clean facility, a nice outdoor area, and individual common areas that you could go into with the person you’re visiting. I know they had some activities like different groups and organizations would come out and sing during Christmas time and have little parties. "

Many seniors and their families use some form of financial assistance to help them pay for nursing care. The main options available are Medicare, Medicaid, and veterans benefits. These programs can be complicated, especially when it comes to benefit terms. Below, we give a brief overview of how these programs may be used towards paying for skilled nursing care.
If these options aren’t available to you, check if your loved one has long-term care insurance or contact your Area Agency on Aging to ask about any local financial assistance programs for seniors.
At $9,186 per month for a semiprivate room and $9,885 per month for a private room, nursing homes are the most expensive type of senior care in Erie. Assisted living facilities are significantly cheaper, $4,315 per month, because residents don’t require as high a level of care. Seniors pay less for assisted living than they would for 40 hours a week of home care or home health care, which each cost an estimated $4,767 per month. Seniors who need some type of supervision or care during the day can take advantage of adult day health care, which has an average monthly cost of just $737.
