"My mother is placed at Sarah Reed. She has been there three months now. We chose it because I was familiar with it. I was impressed with it. My sister's mother-in-law was there for several years, too. It is a good sized place. We are pleased with it. My mom has a room, which essentially has a bed, bathroom, etc. The staff is excellent. They keep in touch with us every 90 days, and frequently in between that time. The activities are quite numerous. My mother is involved with music, church, cards, etc. "

"My grandmother recently stayed in this nursing home while recovering from a hip injury. I was very pleased with the first shift staff at the home. They were professional, attentive and seemed to really care about their duties. I was sometimes not pleased with the second shift staff though. They seemed to be much less staffed and under a lot more stress than first shift. This caused a longer delay in them tending to my grandmothers needs if she rang her call bell. I made sure to visit her more often during the second shift hours to be sure she was getting all that she needed. The facility was very beautiful, with half of it being nearly brand new. The brand new portion of the building was where my grandmother stayed and it was always well kept and clean. Overall, the experience was a good one and I would recommend the facility to other people in the future. "

"My dad was in Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Erie for a week. They're very good over there. Their staff explained to you, and they called me quite often to give me updates on my dad because there were days that I can't go there, since it's far from where I live. They always took time with him, and they cheered that he just did what he was supposed to do. The food looked great. They had everything you could possibly think of. They're very well equipped with everything, their therapy rooms, everything was just awesome. They had games, chair games, but he did not participate. He figured being in therapy was enough for him to do."

"I've recently made the long & way past-due trip to the Beautiful Erie, PA to visit Grandma at Nightingale Nursing and Rehab Center, Apparently the facility is operating under new ownership since the last time we made the trip, over a year ago.. which is the main reason I was motivated to write this review, Grandma was reminiscing the St. Mary days & although they were great, but the new admin & staffing are not comparable to say the least.. We we're warmly greeted by smiling faces from the second we came through the main entrance all through the hallways, which kinda says it all.. The Staff we're ultra friendly & caring, all across the facility was very clean and well maintained! What is usually a dreadful visit was a real "Delightful Experience" all and all! "

"After reading the reviews and hearing from a friend who had a family member there a few years ago, I was very apprehensive when a family member was placed there. I am hyper critical and am familiar with the medical system so went in with my antennas up. The care has been excellent. My only concern was that an elevated toilet seat was not provided but once I verbalized that it was taken care of. Staff seem to know their patients. They also seem to be happy. I understand that there were major changes in administration in the fall of 2013 and their work has paid off. Although the building is old, and 4 people have to share a bathroom there are a lot of nice touches. Bird feeders are outside a lot of the rooms and the courtyard is well cared for. There are a lot of activities from which to choose. If your loved one wants a snack, it has to be requested from the dietician. The only reason I wouldn't want to be a patient there is the lack of private rooms "

"I just left the 2nd floor and I have no complaints .I'm going to miss those girls! I felt supported heard and well cared for. They all came in to talk to me and would ask if I needed anything randomly. My pick if I ever have surgery again. I wish my view didn't look at the parking lot that's my only complaint."

"The facility itself was very, very nice. It was brand new, and well designed. My grandmother liked the facilities because they were well lit, spacious and lush. Many good things to look at. The operations of the facility were not nominal. They were very understaffed and the staff were undertrained and inexperienced. The staff often had very little information on my grandmothers needs, they were rushed and made many mistakes. The managment was difficult to get ahold of and were difficult to work with when changes to her care needed to be made. "

"My grandmother was put in the nursing home after falling and not being able to get around like she used to. She was 83 when she moved in. The rooms arent as nice as other homes that I have seen and she has a roommate but other than that the home is a good place. They have many activities and social events for the residents, which is great. My grandma loves to take part and socialize. She really loves her nurses, they have become like family to her. We go to visit her every weekend. She has now been living at abington crest for 2 1/2 years. "

"Our mother was diagnosed with lung cancer and we could no longer take care of her we turned to ManorCare formally known as Twinbrook Medical Center. She received excellent nursing care. Thank you Nicole. Joyce greeted us at the front desk with a smile and directed us to Kaitlyn and Vivian who were absolutely wonderful. Then Heartland hospice care was called and Mary really got the ball rolling to make our mom extra comfortable. We can not thank everyone enough for all the care she received. Thank you for taking pride in your facility and your jobs. "

"My mother is going to Saint Mary's in Erie on West Ridge Road. We are very impressed with the place. She's going be in independent living with personal care. It's very clean, updated, and really nice. The staff was friendly. I have no complaints whatsoever about it. It's modernized and very well maintained. The girl that took care of us, did all the paperwork, and took us on the tour was exceptionally nice, helpful, answered all our questions, and took as much time as we needed. We looked at the menu, and it's great. They have a whole variety of food you can choose from. People were wearing masks. They were going about their business doing whatever they do on a daily basis. They're still doing all their activities and everything; you just have to wear a mask. The activities were great."

"We went to look at Manchester Commons. The rooms were very nice. The staff was very nice. The facility was nice, open, and friendly. They had a lot of things to do. The dining room was pretty. It seemed like a very laid-back, comfortable place. The only thing we didn't like was that they didn't have a lot of outside activities due to what they called COVID restrictions. The staff was warm, friendly, very kind, and open. They had the best room there. They had a little alcove for the bed, and we really liked that. It's more roomy. The atmosphere felt welcoming. They had a big, open dining room. It was like a restaurant."

"Along with having a friend who resided at this facility I was also employed by this facility a few years ago. My experience with Fairview Manor was a positive one. The patients were treated very well, the staff was caring and most of them went above and beyond the call of duty. The facility has 2 very friendly cats that roam the building and the patient's seem to really enjoy that. I also enjoyed how everyday they had special activities planned for the patient's that included anything from arts and crafts to karaoke and Every Friday was the ice cream shop day which took place in the front lobby and everyone looked forward to that every week! I thought it was very smart how they scheduled meals; they had two lunch times and two breakfast times based on every patient's level of assistance so that everyone would have the right amount of help. Overall Fairview Manor is one of the best Assisted Living Facility's I'd ever worked in and been to. "

"We chose Pleasant Ridge because first of all it seemed like a very good fit for my husband. He is ambulatory, and most of the clients there are as well. And they have availability which is a huge thing. It is really difficult to get into these places because of the long waiting lists. It is fairly new. It has very good security for himself as a patient and also for his belongings because they keep things secured in the room. He's only been there just a few days, so it's really hard for me to evaluate it as much. He seems to be well cared for. "

"I placed my grandmother at Edinboro Manor. It was a good experience. The staff, I thought, was excellent there; they were attentive. The rooms were nice. They had a clean facility, a nice outdoor area, and individual common areas that you could go into with the person you’re visiting. I know they had some activities like different groups and organizations would come out and sing during Christmas time and have little parties. "

"Cory Manor was full, and there's a waiting list. They're still short on staff. It's not great, but it's better than others. I understand it's hard to get staff members in nursing homes. The rooms are nice. They just redid the facility, and it's clean. "

Many seniors and their families use some form of financial assistance to help them pay for nursing care. The main options available are Medicare, Medicaid, and veterans benefits. These programs can be complicated, especially when it comes to benefit terms. Below, we give a brief overview of how these programs may be used towards paying for skilled nursing care.
If these options aren’t available to you, check if your loved one has long-term care insurance or contact your Area Agency on Aging to ask about any local financial assistance programs for seniors.
At $9,186 per month for a semiprivate room and $9,885 per month for a private room, nursing homes are the most expensive type of senior care in Erie. Assisted living facilities are significantly cheaper, $4,315 per month, because residents don’t require as high a level of care. Seniors pay less for assisted living than they would for 40 hours a week of home care or home health care, which each cost an estimated $4,767 per month. Seniors who need some type of supervision or care during the day can take advantage of adult day health care, which has an average monthly cost of just $737.
