"My brother lives in a nursing home. It is Valley View Home in Altoona. It is pretty nice. They got a lot of activities and stuff going on. They have all different kinds, like in the summer time they take them to places and to ballgames. The staff is pretty good, and I know some of the people who work in there. Everything seems to be alright so far. They are just in a room. It has two people in a room, and they have a TV for each person. It is a pretty nice place and pretty clean. The people are always friendly there, and my brother is doing alright. "

"My mother was in Garvey Manor Nursing Home, and it was absolutely outstanding. I could not have asked for a better place. They gave wonderful care, and they're compassionate. They were unbelievable. She was there for six years, and then she passed away in December. It's an excellent maintained facility. The staff was wonderful and very responsive to your needs. Spiritually and physically, the residents are well cared for. It's a wonderful place. I would have lunch with my mother, and the food was very good. Socially, there was a lot of interaction for the residents. They were well provided for. It was just a wonderful, wonderful place; it was just amazing. I toured some in Philadelphia, and I wouldn't put anybody in them, but this place is incredible. I mean, the floors were just immaculate and the care that they gave these people."

"I visited Garvey Manor. They have nice-sized rooms. The staff was very nice. They were friendly. It's very well decorated. It's very pleasing to the eye when you walk in. I saw their dining room. It was very nice, but I didn't have any food. It was quite expensive. It's a very nice atmosphere. It's very well maintained. It's a beautiful place. They have a Catholic Church right there on the premises so that they could go to mass all the time. "

"For all of you that are at the most difficult time in your life, when you realize you just can't give your parent the care he needs and you now most make that very sad decision...where! My sister and I traveled that path not long ago and after a lot of tears and stress, we decided to place Dad at the Hollidaysburg VS Home. This past year has been so very stressful, especially with Covid! I cannot be more happy with these wonderful people! They were one of the first to close their doors to family and friends (which at that time, disappointed me). Because of their policies, many lives were saved! During this time, I have come to love and respect each and every person I have come into contact with...from the guards who greet you at the gate with a smile and directions, to the fine young ladies in the office who go out of their way to make dreams come true (they allowed us to spend a little time with Dad to celebrate his 99th birthday), to the staff who take care of my Dad! The activities ladies are absolutely amazing! These ladies will come in, read the bible to Dad (who loves that), laugh at his jokes (even though most times he can't finish them because his train of thought just isn't always there, they even dance with him (while in the wheelchair)! The nurses are so caring and they seem to take time and patience with him. They all treat Dad with respect. Some have commented he's like their grandfather! I HAVE NOTHING BUT RESPECT AND ADMIRATION FOR HOLLIDAYSBURG VETERAN'S HOME! THEY ARE PEOPLE WITH COMPASSION AND TRUE GRIT!"

"I was very pleased with Lutheran Home, and the people working there were very nice. The room that we looked up was upgraded,, but I know they’re upgrading other apartments. The dining facility was clean and very well decorated. They had card games, exercise classes, church services, and birthday parties. There is a call button in every room of the apartment so they are able to get help if they need it. It’s like a hotel, but they have a main meeting room where they have activities. There are places for them to be together. "

"My mom moved into Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg. We chose it because they have a continuum of care. My mom could go into skilled nursing when she needs to. It's a nice place, and it's clean. It's very homelike. They have activities. They have religious services at different times. They have outdoor porches where residents can sit. The dining rooms were very nice. Like a lot of places now, sometimes they're a little short-staffed. But they're very attentive and respond quickly. They're kind and patient. My mom enjoys the meals. They're comparable to other places."

"I went to Homewood at Martinsburg. I like that whatever condition mom is in, they can take care of it. They can go from independent living to hospice. It's very nice, very clean, and upbeat. My mom really liked it. The staff was very good, informative, friendly, helpful, and knew all the answers. They had a nice dining room. We didn't have any food, but we've seen menus; they cover all the bases. One thing they have that's really nice is every room has either a balcony or a patio. They can walk out the door and be outside, which my mother likes. They had crafts. They take them out on a tour, and they take them shopping if they want. There's a lot of stuff to do. The facility was great."

"I would highly recommend Epworth Manor Personal Care I moved my father to Epworth 5 months ago. I am very happy with the care he receives. The entire staff are excellent caregivers, They are very professional warm, kind and very friendly. They make the residents fee like family. They always take the time to listen and give that extra personal touch. My father feels comfortable, safe, happy and well cared for. They keep me informed of any changes or concerns and they always answer any questions I might have. If a family member, friend or you need personal care you need to visit Epworth Manor."

"My sister is at The Village at Morrisons Cove. She's in independent living, but she gets some assistance. It's been wonderful. They were very informative and contacted me right back. They go from assisted to more assisted and then to nursing, so it's like a three-level step. They have the very independent living there. Then they go to another kind of apartment where they can have some assistance, such as with medication, other reminders, or assistance with meals. Then they go to a higher level of need, such as more nursing or more elderly care. It is why I chose that one. In other words, she doesn't have to move. She's in that same facility. She remembers everybody, and she has the same people taking care of her. The care is really good, and the facility is clean. They're very professional, and they have real nurses on-staff, not just med techs."

"This facility seems very nice from the outside and as soon as you walk in, but after you're there for a few minutes, the real scene unfolds. The staff doesn't come to the need of residents right away but are instead sitting down at a table chatting together, when they do answer the call bells most are not pleasant: yelling, attitudes, mocking residents, being rough. Aside from the unfriendly staff, the facility itself was dirty; dust at least 3 inches thick on ceiling fans that were blowing, scattering dust around, dirty tables, food on floor and tables. We got to meet with the owner of the facility, along with 2 other facilities. He has a crude sense of humor and doesn't seem to get to know the residents on a personal level which to me is a key priority to owning/operating a long time care facility to make the rest of their lives enjoyable. I would never put a family member of my own in this facility, and am glad I don't have to go back! "

"We will not be moving my father-in-law from Haida Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center because it's just too convenient for the family. They give us medical attention, as well as the personal care. They're very caring towards their patients. They do what's necessary for their well-being. They keep the family informed. The physical condition of the facility is good. There are places where they allow the people to sit with their loved ones. My father-in-law has been in both semiprivate and private rooms. The rooms are nice, and they can bring in whatever they need to for his care. He is not able to do activities. I know they have activities there. We were looking into them at the beginning, but he went downhill so quick. He's not able to do any activities. They're taking good care of my father-in-law. With everything, there is always room for improvement; everything I have seen has been up-to-date. The staff members have been keeping us updated. Any time my husband called with questions, they either answer him right then or get back to him within an hour. The staff is good too."

"My mother was Huntingdon Nursing and Rehab Center. Everything was good as far as the people. Right now, it was in the process of being renovated. They were updating everything. That was the only problem with that place. It was kind of old. Now, they were trying to modernize the rooms. They had a small gymnasium area. It had three floors. They had an Alzheimer's unit in one floor, and it was laid out a little different. However, that time they did not have a locked down facility. "

"Westminster was beautiful, spacious, and clean. The whole place was open, and the rooms were nice. They're private pay, and my mother is low income. They had wonderful staff and frequent activities. I saw a lady leading exercises. They had magazines and puzzles placed in different areas for people who wanted to participate."

"We had my sister transition there after hip surgery for 8 weeks. She received excellent care and was the healthiest I've seen her in years. My 86 year old brother in law also went there for 2 weeks after knee surgery with equally excellent stay. Staff was great, rooms were great. They even allowed us to have a family get together for my sisters 74th birthday in the dining hall. "

"I think this is a pretty average facility--I found nothing outstanding about it nor nothing horrific. First, the problems: (1) I found that I often had to track down nurses to get them things that my mother had been hitting the nurse "buzzer" for for quite some time; (2) some nurses, if you ask them a question, are rude because they seem to regard you as annoying them; and, (3) the rooms are situated so that if you're walking down the hallway, you can see everything in that room, in other, words not much privacy. However, if you press them and call them on things that are wrong, they will fix them. You just can't be shy (which neither I nor my mother are). That said, the majority of staff members are attentive and caring and seem to care about their jobs. Also, the facility is very clean--I've never seen anything dirty there--the occupational therapists seem to be very good, and so is the food (and the kitchen staff seems to be very open to special requests and needed diet changes). Everything balances out, so it seems to be an average place. "
