The care that Garvey Manor Nursing Homecare provides for my mom is good, but there are too many rules. You're treated almost like you're in grade school, and I don't like it. They've taken this COVID thing way out of line. My mother has dementia and we can only visit her once a week, after which you have to wait for the next week to schedule another one. She doesn't understand that and she's fully vaccinated. Their whole scheduling has been off since my mom's been admitted there. They quarantined her for two weeks after she came in from the hospital for her hip replacement, and she didn't know why she was being quarantined. She was in her room for two weeks with no physical contact with anybody, but we could call her on the phone, and that was it. It's a very clean facility, but no one seems to be on the same page. You'll talk to one nurse and then get a totally different story from another one. They had her near death, and she was off all her meds. Then I got a phone call last week saying that they have her on Aricept, which is for memory. They're not using it for memory, however, because she's progressed too far in her dementia; they're using it for behavioral issues. So, we're totally at a loss because one minute they have her on comfort care and off meds, and then you talk to somebody else who says that the doctor had put her on a certain other medication. The staff has been great. It's just super expensive, like $12,000 a month, but after three weeks in the facility, she had already fallen because they did not watch her. It's a brand-new facility, but all they want to do is fill beds.

I visited Garvey Manor. They have nice-sized rooms. The staff was very nice. They were friendly. It's very well decorated. It's very pleasing to the eye when you walk in. I saw their dining room. It was very nice, but I didn't have any food. It was quite expensive. It's a very nice atmosphere. It's very well maintained. It's a beautiful place. They have a Catholic Church right there on the premises so that they could go to mass all the time.
