"My mother is quite happy at Accura Healthcare of Ogden. The staff has been very good. They have done a great job with her. She has a very nice private room, which is a studio type. It is home for her. They offered speech and physical therapies. They have a game room, and they play cards a lot. They have a TV or movie room. I had problems with the administrator, but other than that they have done a good job. The facility itself is old, but it still serves its purpose. It is nice, but it is an old building. It's all paid for by insurance. If you have been vaccinated for COVID, you can just go in, but wear a mask."

"I enjoyed my stay at Adel Acres. I wish the rooms were a little bigger than they were though. The nurses there were so helpful there, they even helped me order my favorite food from my favorite restaurant one night. Overall the food was good. They had regular meals, an alternate, and an always available menu of salads, soups and sandwiches. The physical therapists helped me recover after my knee replacement surgery. There was lots to do for activities, sing alongs, massage, bingo and cards. They even have special guests, like pastors that come in for religious services and musicians. I was able to get to my follow up appointments with my doctor, Adel Acres arranged my ride there and back. The social worker, Megan, was so helpful in finding the home care services I needed for after my stay. My kids were able to come visit me, even though we have been in the covid times for the last two years. Adel Acres has a therapy gym onsite where I was able to get my physical, occupational and speech therapies as ordered by my doctor. I was seen by my doctor, onsite during my stay. The only thing I would change is they didn't have an open private room when I first arrived. I was able to move into a private room once one became available though. I was able to go home after about 4 weeks. I would recommend Adel Acres to anyone after surgery. "

"My Mom, Brother and I went to tour KennyBrook Assisted Living for my Mom and were very happy with what we saw. The staff were very kind, open, and upbeat. The available unit has a cute kitchenette, a decent size living room, a large bedroom with walk-in closet, and a nice bathroom with walk-in shower. They have a dining room serving 3 meals a day with several choices each meal. Several areas for residents to gather and play cards, work puzzles, read, or just talk. A chapel that also poses as a movie theater room once a week for movie nights, a community room for exercising crafts, and games, a private dining area you can reserve for a family party, fitness room, on-site beauty salon and a coffee shop with cookies! There is also a physical therapy room if needed or prescribed by a doctor that insurance covers. They also do off-site activities (that day they went to Fareway and had a Rootbeer Float Social,) and have free transportation within a 15 mile radius, which is awesome for doctor appointments. Their staff is trained on medicine management and their director is also a nurse. They have a doctor visit on site once a week, as well. My mom was very hesitant when we went, not knowing if a retirement community was truly for her, but before we left, she was all ready to sign the papers!! I think it will be a wonderful place for her to spend her remaining years. I am rating the staff and facilities top stars. I am not yet putting a rating for the food, as we have not experienced it yet, however, the menu looked delicious!!!"

"Eastern Star has a nursing home, independent living, an Alzheimer’s unit, and all within one facility so they would never have to move. You can have two bedroom and one bedroom, and the nursing home just had one big room with a nice bathroom on the side. A few people don’t have their own bathroom. You can bring your own dresser and TV, and they have a twin size bed. They have Bingo, cards, singing, they celebrate birthdays, and kids from school comes and do performances. I have eaten there a couple of times. The food is very good, and you have 3 or 4 choices in each category. I know some residents and they like it there. "

"We found Polk City Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for my brother. It's a care center also. He's been there probably about five weeks now. His situation has improved. The skilled care there has been exceptional. They've really helped him improve his situation. He's much better than he was when we first took him in. I'm very impressed with the staff. He is on Medicaid, so his room is a typical Medicaid room. It's a little bit bigger than what we have looked at other places. It meets what we expected. The food seems fine; I know he's very, very happy with it. The place is very clean. You can tell that they try to keep the public areas, the sitting areas, and everything clean."

"Deerfield Retirement Community was very nice, clean, and appeared to be very well managed. There were a lot of extra things available, but it's way beyond my price range. The staff who toured me was very pleasant. The dining area was very nice."

"My friend will be moving into Urbandale Health Care Center. It's got the highest ratings for a care center. They've got nice people, it's clean, and nice, and because she is tight on money, she's on Medicaid, and they would take her. I haven't gotten any specific needs because she hasn't even moved in yet. She's moving in today. The staff during the visit was very professional and very helpful. Because of the pandemic we did not get to observe anything. The number one thing we liked about them was they had a space for her, they would take Medicaid, and the rating they had. Also, a very close friend of ours knew numerous people who stayed there, how well they were treated, and how pleased they were. We chose it because the others weren't available and they were not in her price range. Their rating is higher than most of the ones in the area. The deciding factor was made by the price and availability."

"My wife was in Arbor Springs West Des Moines. It was a great place. It was very clean and nice, but it's just very expensive, and they don't accept Medicaid at all. It's a very top-end place. If you want to spend a lot of money and get a lot of amenities, this is a good place to go, but you gotta have a lot of money to stay there. They have very good care."

"Bishop Drumm Retirement Center was very nice, but it was very expensive. It's a buy in and I'm not ready for that. I would recommend it. It's very pretty and very clean. The rooms were very well appointed, but a little small. They had a good activities program. The staff was very friendly. Everything clicked very well. Everyone was very nice. The amenities were nice. The grounds were well kept."

"My grandma is at Bishop Drumm. The staff is nice and accommodating. I think they just need to focus on teamwork. She says that the food is too bland. They do things like ice cream outings, bingo, and different stuff for the residents to enjoy. "

"The New Homestead has independent living, assisted living, and a nursing home. The independent living is in a separate building. They've got four different-sized units. The apartments in the independent living part were above average. The one that the staff got to show me was being renovated. It looked pretty good. Some of them have in-room washers and dryers, others don't. She let me take my dog on the tour. The facility is showing a little bit of wear. It's a little older than the other ones I've been to, but it looked doable for me. The price is very competitive. It's all on one floor. They don't have a second story. They have a nice big function room. They offer one noon meal a day in independent living. They have on-site laundry for the rooms that don't have a washer and dryer in them. They have a one-time pet charge, but they don't charge a monthly fee for pets. The price was really competitive. I'm keeping them at the top of my list right now. Everything else is way too expensive for me. It was a very thorough tour."

"Edgewater, A WesleyLife Community, is beautiful. It's lovely. Wonderful food, good floor plans, and nice staff. The facilities are great. They have all the high-end facilities, like movie theater projection stuff and computer availability. You got everything there. The person who toured me around was friendly and open and wanting to be of help. I tried the food, and it was excellent quality. They had the regular dining room plus a snack place."

"My parents moved into Karen Acres Healthcare Center. The employees seem to be very caring about the residents. I like that my parents are in the same room, and they have a private bath. The rooms are fine. The building was probably built in the seventies, and the age shows. That's not a high priority for the family, so that's fine. They have a large room. They can put some furniture in it (like two single beds). They have a TV on the wall. My parents seem to be fine with the food. It has a positive atmosphere. I saw the residents watching TV in the early afternoon, and some were out in the dining room. My parents are on private pay. It's much less costly than other places that we looked at."
