"I am over the moon that my Dad is enjoying the Memory Care Center at Independence Village so much. We were so worried about how he would feel with us downsizing his apartment and having him in a locked/secured area, but he doesn’t see it that way at all. The common space is absolutely gorgeous. It’s huge and has a couple of sitting areas, a cafeteria, patio, workout area, birds, fish, and a snack bar… the room’s all open up to this community area and are wonderful because they can have all of their own personal items in their room. There are tons of activities going on, so he has socialized more in the month he has been there than the past 5 years. He thinks he is at a nice hotel and hasn’t even attempted to leave on his own. We are sleeping much better at night, knowing he is safe. Would highly recommnd!"

"While in Iowa, we stopped in on the spur of the moment to see the Bickford of Urbandale while searching for an assisted living facility for our aunt. The staff was happy to show us around, despite the fact that we didn't have an appointment. The grounds around the main door were nicely kept, with flower beds and nicely manicured grass. The interior was inviting and we could smell fresh flowers. The entire décor was quite nice and fresh. They had many scheduled and non-scheduled things to do - from reading to games, discussions, and other stimulating activities. The dining areas were nicely designed and warm. The food looked deliciously prepared, as well as nutritious. The dietician and chef changes up the menu to keep it interesting and encourage resident to make suggestions. The residents are encouraged to enjoy physical activity as much as possible. They may take exercise classes such as yoga and aerobics, or use the weight training and other equipment. They may also enjoy the outer walk ways around the building and courtyard. The private rooms were decorated tastefully with a homey, light and airy atmosphere. Each unit has nice views of the surrounding area. Bathrooms were designed with safety seats and rails. The seniors here really enjoy living here - that was plain to see. The staff is kind, caring and very attentive to all of their needs, whatever they happened to be. "

"My aunt was in the assisted living facility. It has a lot of activities, which I was happy to see. We got to eat lunch with her there, and it had an area that you could walk around outside without having the doors locked because it was kind of in a circle. She liked that really well. One of the activities she did with them was planting some roses in their garden. She stayed there about three months, and the staff was really good. They always came in and reminded her of who they were and what function they had there. Their food was really nice, too. She was also able to sit at different tables that she wanted to. She liked not being assigned a place, but sitting down where she wanted to talk with people. She made a little circle of friends there."

"We toured The Rose of Ames. I was pleasantly surprised. The rooms and dining area were nice. The coordinator was very helpful with figuring out financial stuff and everything. They were helpful and nice, giving us all the information we needed. I did check the dining area. My mom knows a couple of people who live out there, so they vouched for the food. They have a craft room and a movie room where people watch movies, like a theater room. They have another room on another floor for playing cards and games and stuff like that."

"Northridge Village was very nice. It's newer and I know people who live there who are happy with it. My parents liked it too, and so they put a deposit down to be on the waitlist. The facilities were very good and very nice, both indoors and outdoors. They had a chapel, a library, an exercise area where residents could exercise, as well as a garage attached or unattached. So, that's kind of a nice option."

"The apartments are nice and require no buy in. The staff is helpful and very friendly. You receive that small town care and friendliness, as if you are family. The staff call to check on you every day and are on call for emergencies. They are connected through an underground hallway with the Nursing Home. When my father was in the home, my mother could walk over to visit him without worrying about the weather. I would recommend the Madrid Home Community to anyone looking for care in Central Iowa. "

"We have found a place in Story City called Bethany Life, and we're on the waiting list. They were able to take Medicaid. When you walk in, it's secure. They are very welcoming. It doesn't feel like it's a clinical setting. You walk in and there are places to sit that are comfy, and there's a bistro, too. It feels like you're walking into an apartment building, but they're very safe and secure. They have you screened in and screened out, your temperatures are taken, and you have to have a name badge, or you're not allowed in any area. It doesn't matter who you are, you have to do this unless you're an employee. Their food was good. They also offer food that's made to order. The facility is broken down into like four homes. They call them different things. We got to tour Ivy's House and then they have Christine's House, and then there's two other houses. They've just taken each section of the facility. Like if somebody is needing more care or they have dementia, I think they have like a memory unit, and so my father would be needing to go to a unit that still needs assistance, but they're a little more social. Depending on their needs, they try and put them in a particular house within the facility. So, the dining area is just for that particular house. It's a very small intimate-type setting. There might only be 20 people in the whole house, so those who want to dine at the table can be brought in, and it's just like eating at a little cafe."

"I checked out Ballard Creek for my mom. It was very clean, they have very friendly staff, it's small so they knew everybody's name. They have activities that they do, there's a chapel, there's a game room, there's a beauty salon there. People can come and go as they choose. They provide three meals a day for 'em. They have snacks, they have a kind of party room for if you want to, like, have a birthday party or something there, they have sidewalks outside so you can walk outside. A few of their units also have patios. It was very nice, very clean, and everybody was very friendly. They said food is all homemade meals."

"My mother is in Eden Acres in Perry. She likes it there, but she's too independent, too cognizant, too outgoing to feel tied up. She was there with my dad and my dad passed. She was in assisted living with my father and then he went to long term care in the same facility, so she stayed in assisted living to be close to my dad who was just down the hall. The facility is extremely clean and well taken care of. My mom's assisted living apartment is almost as big as my 800 sq ft house. She paid $2800 and everything is included. If she moved 20 miles closer to Des Moines, it would have cost her $4400, so the price is definitely right. A $1500 difference is a lot of money for someone that's retired. They cover everything. I know that it's tiered; as far as the assisted living. My mom is in tier 1 because she doesn't really need a lot of help, they just come in for temperature checks every day. She gets her food, too, because the price includes everything. It's very clean. The long-term place that my dad was also in were single rooms. He didn't have to share rooms with anybody. The rooms also include an ensuite bathroom, which you don't find in many places. I've eaten there with her before as well. They have 3 different chefs there and I can honestly say that the food was exceptional. It's just a beautiful facility and it's 28 miles from Des Moines so I would highly recommend it to everyone."

"My husband's aunt will be moving into Timberland Village ALF. It was beautiful. It was spotless. The residents that we happened to pass in the hall were all very cordial and very excited that someone new was moving in, so it was very nice. The room was very nice. "

"I toured Windsor Manor Nevada. They do a lot of activities even while this stuff is going on; they masked up and go to the community room, and sit a distance away from each other. They'll do their crafts, they do baking, they do specialty field trips for different things, and they really do a lot to keep them active and engaged. There are nice, little apartments; they have a separate bedroom, and they have a bathroom, and sitting room. They have kitchenettes but no stoves because they have their own dining room to use, and their meals are provided for them which everyone says it's really, really good food. The director knew just about anything you could possibly ask her, and if not, she knew exactly who to ask to get that information."

"Kennybrook Village is close to where we live. We really like the facility. The food is great. We know people that have been there before. The staff members were very welcoming. The marketing person who took us around. She introduced us, talked about who did what, who they were, and the different areas of use in the building. I've heard from the people there that the food was excellent. They do have a full calendar of activities."
