"The Brightmore was pretty good and I liked it. Their rooms really stood out to me. They also had activities and the staff was pretty friendly. They had plenty of activities available for the residents. "

"The lighting at Cedar Cove Assisted Living was very dim. The halls were not as wide and they would not allow my dad to have his scooter there, which would have been an issue with the length of walk that he had to do to get to the dining room. Other than that, they were all friendly and polite. I've had meals there and the food was good. The apartment we saw was just one big room with a bathroom. My dad was supposed to get a private room, which he wanted, but they didn't have one available (they have some private rooms, but most of them are semi-private). They have a nice dining room. I know someone that has been there for about three years. So, I've been out there many times to visit and most of the residents were very social."

"My brother moved to New Hanover House. So far, they are offering good pay. They're doing good. I have not tasted the food, but I asked my brother and he said, the food was good. As for the value, the price range was in his budget."

"They seemed nice enough at Davis, and the facilities were as nice. My husband had been there once before when he had a surgery, and he was very unhappy. That was one reason I was wary of putting him back in there again, but it was not necessarily their fault. It is in a very nice location. The rooms seemed nice, and the people certainly seemed nice enough. "

"I don't think there was anything I liked about Champions Assisted Living. It was empty and dreary. There was nobody anywhere. It was a hodgepodge. There were three floors, but you couldn't get to the third floor unless you went down to the second floor and take another elevator up. It's too confusing for me, but I think part of it is because it's under construction and we also had a very new tour guide, which was horrible. He didn't know how to cater to our needs or our wants. We went here, there, and everywhere. When we went in there, everybody was very happy, very nice, and very helpful. We only waited a few minutes, but the lady that gave us the tour was not well-versed at all. We had friends there before and my father was in the other part of it one time and the food was quite good. I didn't get to see everything, but if you go online and look at it, it has everything you want, that's why I called it the Taj Mahal. The independent living is probably one of the best in this area and it's just rated very high. It was very expensive, but I was very disappointed with it. The facility itself was nice, but it's all over the place and I didn't like that. I don't have Alzheimer's yet and I have a hard time understanding it. I don't like the assisted living facility at all. A lot of it was under construction. It was bad timing on our side, too."

"I would say it was a fairly good experience. I was visiting my grandpa and it was first visit there. The facility seemed very warm and open--and looked as though it had many amenities for the residents there to enjoy/do. The staff there was helpful and most of them seemed as though they liked what they did (you have some instances where you go to places like that and it will seem as though staff is 'just there' w/ a cold/indifferent disposition). The only thing I would say could have been a negative, I suppose would have been that somewhat stale smell of urine in some areas, like in the sitting area where I guess everyone watches TV (and where guest/family can sit w/ their loved ones their visiting, as is where we were). It wasn't extremely strong or anything, it was faint, but it was still a slightly off-putting when I did catch a whiff of it. "

"The Landings of Oak Island assisted living and the facilities there were gorgeous. The director, as well as the marketing lady, were nice and we just felt comfortable with everybody that we interacted with when we went for our visit. Everybody interacted with my mom including the other residents. They greeted and visited with her. They offer some amenities like their own beauty salon with somebody that comes in to do hair and another person to do nails. That's kind of important to my mother. They have an in-room shower for her, but they also have their own spa area, which she has been looking forward to getting into because of the step-in bathtubs. We did not see the food, but we've heard from the people there that the food is very good. They have access to a coffee bar and snacks. They have areas where the residents can help themselves to coffee and snacks, all the time so we're hoping for the best when my mom moves there. The staff was super friendly and super upfront with the cost. The executive director met with us, Jaelyn is her name, and she did phenomenally well. She was very informative and very upfront too. She reassured us that medications are going to get passed at the correct times. We're very impressed with their med system. It's an electronic system where if the medicine was not opened up and delivered at the time it's supposed to be, the director as well as the nurses, get an immediate electronic notification that the med wasn't given."
