"My mother has been at Spring Arbor since August, and so far, it has been really nice. They have very good food. I don't have any complaints. They have a lot of activities for the people there. They give her more hands-on care and they make sure she gets her meals. It is clean and doesn't stink. It is something within her price range. I would recommend this place. "

"Spring Arbor was simply a nice place. It’s fairly new. We looked at the rooms; they were refurbishing them. It was a one bedroom and a kitchen. It was kind of combined. For an old person, it’s appropriate. They all seemed to be friendly and accommodating. They had different things going on there. They had a singer, and they were all sitting and listening to him. The dining facility was pretty big. "

"Carolina House is excellent and inviting. They have central dining area for everyone, it wasn't so big, and it is clean. The room is cozy. It is not too big. The surrounding is well-kept, and it is about a 20-year-old facility, but it doesn't look it. They keep it up-to-date and renovate it. The staff is professional; they dress well and work well. With the care, the long term administrator, clean facility, and adequate room, the combination of all of these is the reason why we choose it. "

"I went to the Reserve at Mills Farm yesterday. It's a very nice, clean facility, the staff is warm and friendly. The workout center is well equipped and the surroundings are very nice looking, there are trees and so forth. It's nice because it's an age in place type facility, independent living, assisted living, and then the memory care facility. I discovered that they have activity coordinators at all three sections, so it's not one activities coordinator, which I think is good because they can kind of specialize in their own area. Those three different categories have three different needs. The dining facility looked very nice. I think there are at least two public dining facilities and at least one private dining facility so that if you had a family get-together, you could utilize the private dining space. I cannot comment on the costs, that was one of the factors that were not immediately available yesterday, and I cannot comment on the rooms themselves or what's available there. I think there are about 75 to 80 percent filled right now, which means there's still about a 20 percent open capacity. As I mentioned, it's a relatively new facility, so they're still accepting residents. I think the town itself, Apex, is a nice town within North Carolina."

"We are very satisfied with Spring Arbor of Cary. They were very responsive to our request for a tour to see the facilities and to meet with the staff, and they were able to get my mom in very quickly. They've been very responsive to our questions or phone calls about how she's doing on any particular day. They do music therapy, chair yoga, and they have a walking club there. They also went to a Cinco de Mayo event recently."

"My parents are on a waiting list for Woodland Terrace. It's very nice, 20 years old, friendly, and not too big, which my mother liked. The setting was very nice in a neighborhood with mature landscaping, and the apartments were bigger than some of the newer places we have seen. The staff was very nice. They had a pool, gym, and physical therapy office on site. The pool was especially nice and covered in a glass enclosure, so it seemed like youre outside, and yet it was heated and air-conditioned which was important to my dad."

"I went to see Springdaile Assisted Living. It's super in parallel with where my dad currently is but the price was more than I had anticipated from what was online so it's not worth it for me. I get that they have different levels of care, but I thought I could get my dad there for under $4000 and I can't. It reached over $5000 and at this point, it's not worth it. During my in-person visit, everything was clean and they cater to the residents. The person who toured me was very informative too. They had an eating area and a large back porch deck so there's plenty of area for residents to go. The bedrooms were normal bedroom sizes and the upkeep was great. The location is also easily accessible."

"A few years ago, as part of a school trip, I visited with some of the people who stayed at Burlington Manor. One of the things that stood out about the facility, above all else, was the amount of dedication and attention that each of the caregivers had for the people under their care. The facility, while clean, didn't seem to be very well stocked, and it's my understanding that the same is the case for most assisted living communities. At the very least, the sheer amount of love brought to bear by so many of the workers at Burlington Manor was something that was evident not only to myself, but to everyone else. "

"My mom has been at CHAL for 4 1/2 years. CHAL is privately owned and run by a local couple. Over the years, I have found them and the administrator to be open, honest and willing to assist with any issues that might come up. My mom has been in the secure memory care wing from the beginning due to her wandering tendencies. Over the years, I feel like she has been well taken care of. There have been issues with some of the staff from time to time, but those issues have been addressed by the administration. I have seen staff removed from the memory care wing, because they are not a good fit. The residents in that wing need a specialized, caring, well trained staff. CHAL tries to make certain the MC staff suits that criteria. Over the years, CHAL has made great strides in improving the overall condition of the facility. It was a very attractive, clean facility when I first visited in 2009. Today it is even more so. The owners and admin strive to make improvements in every area: cleanliness, activities, meals, gathering areas, staff training, care giving and other areas of residents' needs. From the moment you enter through the new air - lock sliding doors, I feel the comfort of a well run facility. Most importantly to a lot of folks, a home for the aged should smell nice. CHAL does. Of course, there will always be the occasional odor of a soiled resident. If that happens when I walk past, I don't hesitate to bring it to a staff member's attention. If it's in a group situation, I usually find that staff is already looking for the offending diaper. In the MC wing, there's a diverse population from residents who seem to be perfectly fine to those who need full time assistance. I admire and appreciate the staff who can care for these residents. It definitely takes a special type of person to do the job. I was my mom's caretaker for several years before it was necessary to find a place. I could write a lot more, but then you might get tired of reading. I give CHAL 4 stars, because no facility can be perfect. There's always room for improvement and luckily for the residents, CHAL recognizes that. "
