My sister has been in Heathwood Assisted Living and Memory Care. It's very nice, well-kept, clean, and it has a good smell. The people are very nice. The food is adequate. It's good. The service is good. From what I can tell, it's OK. The staff has been very nice and very helpful. For amenities they have game rooms, a TV room, a multi-purpose room, an exercise area, and a movie theater room. However, they need to pay a little more attention to the needs of the residents. Sometimes you feel like you're not getting everything you're paying for.

There was a place called Heathwood Assisted Living and Memory Care in Penfield where I have a dear friend living there. They have varying levels of care. My friend has her own very small apartment, so she doesn't need anything. She goes down and has her meals in a beautiful dining room. There's a lovely community room, a library, a movie theater, and all that kind of stuff. My friend has a small apartment. It's an open concept, so her little kitchen area blends into a little living room area, which blends into where her bed is. And then she's got a nice, spacious bathroom, which is good. I can see how this setup would facilitate if she had to use a wheelchair. She uses a walker now. She doesn't need help dressing or any of those kinds of things, but they have people who come and take her laundry and do it for her. They have a ton of activities. My friend can go to anything she wants to, or she can just stay in her little apartment and watch TV or whatever. It's nice for her because she's on her own. She doesn't have to do housework or any of those kinds of things. She has made friends, and all of that is good. We're happy she's there because when she was on her own trying to take care of the house, it was a lot of work and it was getting harder and harder for her. This is much better. The place is clean. The staff appears to be friendly. My friend's room is nice, too.

We're pursuing Heathwood Assisted Living. It's a little bit more expensive than the other place we toured, but they had nice facilities. We liked it a lot. They didn't have any memory care openings, but they have assisted living with enhanced care. It seemed like it was a relatively new place and clean. It seemed quiet but it had a lot of facilities, they had a piano, he had a nice dining room and a nice area where they do crafts and so forth, so they had a bunch of stuff. They had a bunch of opportunities for mom to do and stuff to keep her brain going. They had a variety of types of rooms, we were looking at studios, which is just basically one room. They didn't have any cooking facilities other than a microwave and a small fridge, and I don't think we'd want anything more than that for her anyway. It was very nice, it's plenty big for her. They'll provide furniture to get us started because we don't have any at the moment, so that was helpful too. The staff who gave us the tour was very personable, knowledgeable and we felt very comfortable with her. I thought she did a good job of explaining things, she took us on a tour, showed off several different room configurations, and so forth. I think she was very accommodating to us. When we did the tour, they were still kind of closed for COVID, so the dining wasn't open. We've gone back since then, and it is open now. But at the time we did our tour, they weren't doing the activities because they had had a couple of people with COVID.
Sad to see the decline

I do not recommend this facility....new management and she doesn’t handle anything. Clueless. Talks out of both sides of her face, A puppet to higher ups.

Our experience with Heathwood Assisted Living at Penfield was good. The staff was excellent except the two of them were not kind and were a little rough, but the rest was absolutely wonderful. My mother was there for a year. It was very lovely and clean. The dining area was clean and appropriate. The food was fine. They had a central dining and living area and then long hallways. It was always clean and well kept.

I visited Heathwood in Penfield. They have a home theater, they take the residents out on field trips, and they also have a game room and dining facilities. They have a van that takes you wherever you want to go, like at the doctors' or the grocery store. I'd probably put my mom there if she had wanted to come to New York. They're assisted living, plus they have a memory care unit.

I recently toured Heathwood. The location in Penfield is perfect, close to many stores, banks, restaurants and more. The woman who toured me (think her name was Sandi) was very kind and took a lot of her time with me. I didn't feel rushed and even had a chance to talk to other patients that lived there. They all seemed so happy and the staff I saw were smiling and laughing. It felt like the place I want my mother to live. The rooms are huge with kitchen area too. My mom would love watching movies - the theatre is gorgeous.

I am at Heathwood Penfield. It was a little closer to my children, so I picked it. They have activities here like an exercise class in the morning, and we have a bus. We went out on a trip to Skaneateles yesterday, and it was very nice. We had lunch and took a boat ride. We have picnics, and we can get rides to Target, Wegmans, Tops, and Walmart. You have three meals a day. I have laundry service. They make my bed and take my trash out. They also pick up my shoes and socks; they take them off for me at night and put them on for me in the morning, and I dress and bathe myself. The staff is very nice. The food is good, and they have many choices.

Heathwood was a good facility, and they're expanding their memory care unit. The people were nice. I would be comfortable having my relatives stay there. The rooms were pretty spacious and had some good additions in the room that made it nice, like walk-in showers. They had activities, music night where they had some people play the piano, and a movie theater that had very comfortable chairs.

We just moved my mother-in-law about a month ago. So far they meet the level of care we need. They are very attentive and very compassionate. They have a lot of activities. They have movies on a daily basis. They have puzzles and cards. Their apartment is one of the reasons we went there. They have their own apartment and not just patient rooms. They have everything from a studio to a two bedroom apartment.

Elderwood is a very, very nice place. The woman who is in charge is absolutely wonderful and welcoming. I went back to talk to her about my concerns. The rooms and apartments are very, very nice and set up very well. They were very, very good.

Elderwood was very nice. It seemed a little bit more upscale and a bit pricey. The staff was very nice and very accommodating. They had quite a few activities. They took the residents once a week to a cocktail hour to a restaurant and things that they chose. However, my uncle was a little private so he might not take part on the activities that they had and I wouldn't think my uncle would fit in there at that time.
