"Brookdale West Side Rochester is near my sister’s son. They will have room for her, and they have a special program there so she can have a nicer time there. I didn’t have a problem with it, but my sister did. She didn’t like it at all. I think the rooms are a little smaller. She would like a single room, but she can’t afford it so she has to share with somebody, and she doesn’t like the idea of sharing. They were very nice people. They do have activities, but a lot of people didn’t join there. "

"It was very friendly, very clean, and very warm and smelled like it was clean. The layout was easy to navigate and all on one floor. It was a small place, which was good. They had different sizes of rooms, but they were adequate. I liked the people working there. They were very friendly and went out of their way to introduce themselves and talk about how much they loved their jobs. They had quite a few activities going on. I saw people in one room playing games and doing some activities, and some of them were watching a movie in a different room. We did not eat there, but they gave us cookies and muffins that they made. The cookies were good and the muffins were OK. I would recommend them to others. "

"I have been a volunteer at Cherry Ridge for about 8 years or so. Since the beginning of that time, I was quite impressed with the personal care that the residents received. They are treated with respect and honor and the facility is very warm and welcoming. The past few years I have volunteered almost exclusively in Rainer Grove, which is for residents who need special Memory Care help. They are encouraged to be a part of many possible activities, from birthday parties, games, and singing times, to excursions into the community, depending on the desires and abilities of the residents. Even if a resident doesn't want to participate in some activity, they are treated with loving care. I have been extremely impressed with Cherry Ridge! I want to live there myself!! "

"I am impressed with the staff working the Monday - Friday shifts. They are caring and helpful. However, the weekend staff seems to be below par. Subs are sent in that have no idea what special needs the residents have nor do they care. This appears to be just extra money/shifts for them. It not only infuriates me but the regular staff, as well. They work hard all week to set standards only to have those standards ignored on the weekend. Most residents dread the weekend."

"We have found a place for Mom. It's a new place, and it's called Ashley Woods at Penfield. It had the right combination really of everything else. Everybody offers pretty much the same amenities, but this had a good price to go along with all the amenities, and being that it's new, even though the company is doing business for a long time, it is everything we wanted. It met all the requirements that we felt we needed. The staff seemed to be very knowledgeable. A couple of people we spoke to had been in the business for years now, and they seemed very knowledgeable. Another reason is no apartment is far from an elevator, so there's never a lot of walking for any of the residents. Everything was pristine. The rooms were beautiful. They were all one-bedroom apartments that we looked at. A few were bigger just because of where they're located, but still very nice. There's a little kitchenette, a living room, and a bedroom. They have no pool, but they have all the other things. They have a salon, medical facilities, three meals a day, and a place where you can eat whenever you want."

"My sister has been in Heathwood Assisted Living and Memory Care. It's very nice, well-kept, clean, and it has a good smell. The people are very nice. The food is adequate. It's good. The service is good. From what I can tell, it's OK. The staff has been very nice and very helpful. For amenities they have game rooms, a TV room, a multi-purpose room, an exercise area, and a movie theater room. However, they need to pay a little more attention to the needs of the residents. Sometimes you feel like you're not getting everything you're paying for."

"Cobb's Hill Manor had single rooms that were available at the time, and they were spacious. Everything seemed very well run. The social worker that I spoke to was very good at what she did and gave us a nice tour of everything. The vibe there was a little down, and my mother wasn't comfortable at all going around. She made the decision right away that she would rather stay where she was. It wasn't a bright and shiny situation there. The staff was definitely outgoing and welcoming. She gave us a nice tour of the surrounding areas, rooms, what was going on there, and their activities. She was very knowledgeable. The room that they did pick out for her, or that they had available at that time, was much larger than where she was, and it felt almost like a small apartment."

"My husband was at The Landing of Brighton. They were very caring. The facility was very good. The food was excellent. He was very happy there, but he kept falling and they had to take him to the hospital, so we decided that he needed more skilled nursing care. The staff were helpful. It was very clean. The structure of the building was very nice. They had different activities. My husband was very social and so he attended a lot of the activities that they had like card games, bingo, movies, and that sort of thing."
