I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father has been very, very unhappy at Elm-York Home. He's really miserable there. This is the second time since he's been there that they've locked all of the residents inside their tiny communal room for six weeks. It's a horrible place. From the moment that we walked in because the hospital placed him there, I heard this enormous loud scream. I didn't know what was going on. The very first thing you also notice is the smell. It smelled equally of cigarettes and of bleach. So it was very hard to breathe. They showed us this tiny, little room and we expressed the fact that my dad is diabetic and the first meal that he was given was sugary cereals and bread with jelly. The staff members don't care at all. They blocked me every time I call. I keep telling them his medication needs to be changed. The food is like cafeteria food. There are no activities. They don't even give the tenants wi-fi. There is no TV. There are no newspapers. Some people are good, some people aren't. There's only one nurse and he's terrible. The doctor doesn't really answer his calls, but there is this one person that's really caring. His room is not bad. It's an OK room. They just need to add wi-fi and a TV. Upkeep and maintenance are pretty OK as long as they stop using so much bleach and letting people smoke in their room. There's one TV that everyone shares. Other than that, there are some crayons.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother has moved into Elm-York Home. They were very helpful in the transition. Communication was very clear. As far as the comfort of the place, it is very clean. COVID regulations are being followed. However, my mom's room is by a garbage can. The lady at the front desk was quick to turn me away but didn't even ask for the person's name I was looking for or didn't check. My mom said the food is better. She just recently got there. I know their website mentioned some activities. Also on the phone call, they said they have some Sunday church activities, they'll talk to you, and they have cooking and baking. They have a beauty salon. They are on the pricier side, but they look out for people who are lower income. They have good options. It's not a place where you'll worry so much about your loved one.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My sister has been Elm York for many years. Her aides are compassionate and helpful and show real concern for the residents. The staff is professional and competent and I feel my sister is in good hands. There are activities for the residents on site but they have the option of leaving to enjoy outside activities if they wish. Their laundry is done and their rooms are cleaned and medical care is available on-site. Take a look at Elm York for your loved one.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My sister moved into Elm-York Home. We're really satisfied with it. The environment is clean. My sister is cared for and she has settled in. We think it is a good choice for her. The staff is warm, personable, and competent. They are very nice and they set her up with a program that my sister could go to five days a week. We are satisfied with the social worker who works with them. They have music and arts. My sister is out most of the day. She is satisfied with the food too. She is happy with the community.

I visited this facility

Elm-York is right near the airport. The room was very clean and very nice. The girl that showed us around was very nice and very supportive. I was assisted by one of the home elder care ladies. We went with her while she was taking care of the people, taking off their clothes, cleaning up the room, she shaved one of them. I saw them watching television in a big lounge place and they got their medication. Everybody waited on line and they have to take the medication there. I like all the people that work there. They really take very good care of those people. The living environment was very warm and the people there were very friendly.

Visited this facility

I had a few issues with this facilty already and it hasn't been a year yet. The staff is generally nice but there are a handful of employees that Mr. A. fails to address and seems to overlook for interest in keeping the same workers for whatever the reason is. So some of the workers are nasty and forceful when it comes to medication. Foul language heard from certain employees daily. The nurse aid was taken away from this resident even though she is disabled with a terminal disease because she has been out during what is called a home visit more than 14 times. Unfortunitely for this resident, she ended up falling on her face right after they cancelled her nurse aid the next day while she was in the shower when she usually had someone there. She now has a cuts and buises all over her body because of this accident on her own...on her knee, face, and left arm. Very unsatisfied and looking to push this case to higher grounds because the carelessness of this facility. Thank you for reading.
