In a word: neglect. My family member had to go from Elm Manor to the emergency room by ambulance (that I had to call) for severe dehydration. This was after weeks of advocating for tests/more care following a period of significant health decline. Nursing staff administers meds and that is it. Do not trust them with your loved one.

My fiancé had a stroke and the occupational and physical therapist said “ I think this is as far as we think we can get” I fight and said “ as long as he is here, you will work with him, no matter how much push back he gives you!” The neurologist told us he has up to two years to get better. I suggest you advocate for your loved ones, they can’t do it for themselves! Trust me, I raise hell!

The hospital Dr said my wife’s brain had become “squishy” as a result of too many TIAs. She, the Dr, said I should give up and just “let her go.” The rehab staff laughed at that assessment and six weeks later, M, my wife, walked out, fully recovered. I’m told that most nursing homes are understaffed and Elm Manor is no exception. But, individually, the nursing staff and aids were super. The most serious problem I encountered was with record keeping. All records were handwritten. A mistake in reading the Drs notes resulted in a mistake in administering one of M’s meds. When we discovered the mistake, M was discharged the next day.

My husband was a patient at Elm Manor Rehab recently. The Rehab department scores a 100/100 . They really go the extra mile. Caregivers are very compassionate and work hard to meet the demands placed on them. They never failed to make my husband feel cared for. They took the time my husband needed without rushing him. Always pleasant with a smile on their faces. Caring how he felt and how his and our day was. Nursing exceptionally well. Primary nurse went out of her way to help in anyway she could. Always one step ahead of his needs. Showing the greatest customer service and Patient care he had in the whole course of his recovery, From ER to his discharge. Would come back for future care just knowing how great this nurse care for my husband. Day shift exceptional great group of girls. Unfortunately evenings nursing and caregivers not as welcoming or caring. Housekeeping was great as well for want the facility offers them. Up dates needed to make facility attractable. That said care over ranks the appearance. Concerns with upper management. Not responsive to questions, concerns and/or complaints. Heard on several occasions managers yelling in hall at staff . Belittling them and threatening their jobs in hallways and in nursing area. Seems DON and Manager give no regards as to how hard these girls work and if not for them we would have very little good to say of this facility. DON storms down hall barking orders to staff without any regard to what they are doing. Manager spends all her time throwing things around yelling in hallway. If it wasn't for the Rehab department and Rehab nurses and the wonderful caregivers this place would never get any returning clients. If the owners cleaned out all their upper management , made a few interior updates this place would be a 5 star rehab facility.

Elm Manor was sold in 2017 and is under new management. My relative is currently there receiving rehab. The facility is old but it is clean. The common areas are not too impressive. What I am most impressed with is the staff. They are going out of their way to make sure my relative is getting good care. The nurse on call stopped what she was doing and tended to a comfort issue for my relative. I think most people would have told us "we'll ask the doctor on Monday." She did not. The aides seem to work constantly and interact kindly with the residents. I am very impressed with the care. I toured four other local facilities and nowhere did I see the aides interacting as often or as well with the residents. Don't be put off by the facility's ratings. I don't think they are a good reflection of the care you will receive in 2018. I cannot provide information on the quality of the food or the activities.

My mother is currently at Elm Manor and seems to be getting good care there. We like her physical therapist. Their food looks good and appetizing with ample quantities. Their rooms are neat and clean.
