Accepted Answer

We schedule a variety of activities to meet our residents' needs and interests.  Some of these are: exercise groups, crafts and puzzles, trivia and bingo games, and sing-alongs.  We normally have different groups from local schools and churches that come in and entertain our residents, especially during the holiday season.

What is the care staff-to-resident ratio at BeeHive Homes of Volcano Cliffs during daytime and nighttime hours?

Accepted Answer

During the day time we have two caregivers, the house manager and a cook all on duty to meet the needs of up to 15 residents.  Two caregivers stay through the evening hours to serve dinner and assist residents getting ready for bed, and one caregiver is awake and on duty through the overnight hours.

What safety features or security measures does BeeHive Homes of Volcano Cliffs provide to protect residents who wander?

Accepted Answer

Our homes are not "secure" (locked units) so we cannot accept any resident who may be a wandering risk.  However, we have found that most residents with even moderate dementia are safe in the home and may not present a risk of wandering.  A thorough pre-admission evaluation can determine if a resident is appropriate for our home.

What makes the chef or dining program at BeeHive Homes of Volcano Cliffs exceptional? What kind of menu can assisted living residents expect?

Accepted Answer

Our meals are planned by a dietitian and are all prepared in-house by our own cooks.  We try to spice things up with local flavors such as salsa and green chile, and enjoy holiday favorites such as tamales and pose.  We have the ability to modify meals as needed if a resident needs softer-textured food and we can accommodate just about any likes and dislikes with the menu options available.

What transportation services does BeeHive Homes of Volcano Cliffs offer to assisted living residents?

Accepted Answer

We do not offer transportation services to our residents but can assist in making arrangements.  There are several physicians and nurse practitioners who make "house calls" to us and we also can facilities virtual tele-visits; these things help eliminate the need for many trips outside.

What safety features or security measures does BeeHive Homes of Volcano Cliffs offer to assisted living residents?

Accepted Answer

Our homes have full fire protection systems, including smoke and heat detectors, sprinklers and alarm pull boxes at each exit.  Our exit doors are locked each evening for the safety of our residents and staff.  We also have chimes on each exit door so that our staff can monitor when residents or visitors enter or leave the home.

If BeeHive Homes of Volcano Cliffs accepts dogs or cats, what indoor/outdoor areas can they enjoy?

Accepted Answer

We welcome small pets as long as the resident is able to care for them.  There are sidewalks and patio areas outside for recreation and pet needs.  To comply with state regulations, we must have records of current immunizations for any pets.

Accepted Answer

There are sidewalks around the buildings and the patio areas.  Some of our residents enjoy walking "laps" around these areas during the spring and summer.

What ongoing senior care training does the staff receive?

Accepted Answer

Our caregiving staff receives training upon hire on medication administration, resident rights and safety, and basic resident care.  Ongoing monthly training covers topics such as abuse and neglect, dementia care, resident nutritional needs, safe lifting and transfers, and medication training.

How does BeeHive Homes of Volcano Cliffs keep residents' families informed about their loved ones?

Accepted Answer

During the COVID pandemic, our residents and families have really missed seeing each other in person!  WE've help them stay in touch by using closed window visits, telephone calls, video visits and even outdoor visits on our patios, maintaining social distancing.  Our administrator and owner keep in contact with residents' families using videos to keep them updated on developments with COVID.

Describe the overall population of assisted living residents at BeeHive Homes of Volcano Cliffs. What is their average age? What are their favorite things to do?

Accepted Answer

Our residents range in age from the mid-70s to over 100 years old, with the average ager being about 85.  Some of our residents prefer to watch TV or read in their rooms, but we also have a variety of group activities for differing interests, and our residents can enjoy our front an back covered patio areas when the weather is pleasant.
