The Best Assisted Living Communities in Burlington County, NJ

"We got Mom over at the Riverview Estates. She loves their food. It's gorgeous. It's very clean. The maintenance is good. They just had a whole bunch of renovations. It's pristine. The view of the river makes you feel like you're on vacation versus in a senior living home. They have this beautiful atrium with rocking chairs so people can sit and just look at the river. It's a beautiful ambiance. She's very happy there. They have religious services six days a week, which my mother loves, and bingo, which she loves. They bring in a lot of entertainers, like a lot of singers. On Christmas, they brought in a choir. She hung up on me the other day to go play bingo. She's happy that they have the Hallmark Channel in their TV room. They have a giant screen TV with a bunch of chairs and that makes her very happy, even though she has a small TV in her room. They're very attentive to her needs. When she misses a meal, they come up and they try to get her down for meals. If she can't make it down because she's in too much pain, they bring her her meals. Whenever I called the facility during the first couple of weeks when she was getting acclimated, they called me back very quickly. They work to get her needs met. I think the value for the money is great. I wish she would call staff more often, but that has nothing to do with their rating. She has a habit of not wanting to ask for help, but they know to come look for her, which I find important. I'm very happy there."

"The food at Oakwood Residence is standard for an assisted living place. It is like catering-style food. I like the size of his room and of the bathroom, and it is very clean. I like the size of it because it is best for my dad; it is just a great fit for him. The hallways are very wide. They will have no problems getting into their rooms. They may have a little trouble getting into the bathroom because if they needed assistance, the person who’s assisting them would have to be already in the bathroom because the wheelchair would be blocking the doorway too much to allow another person to get in there. I feel that if the wheelchair was just outside the door, it would be better. But they try to put the wheelchair all the way into the bathroom where you wouldn’t be able to fit all the way in there. They have a calendar, and they have several activities throughout the day, so I feel like they try to keep them active. You are not being billed separately like a lacarte. It is not based on their level of care, which I like. I am very happy. "

"CareOne at Evesham Assisted Living was very good and probably the one I liked the best. They pretty much covered everything. David sat down with me for a while, explained everything, asked me about my mom, and had a good, long talk. He showed me the nice facilities and introduced me to a lot of the staff members and residents, which was great. Everything was very nice. The outdoor areas and dining area were very good. They had a center hall or an atrium for activities and games. There's really nothing negative I could say about them at all."

"We chose The Clare Estate for my mother because it felt warmer and nicer. The staff and services are very good. They have a lot of activities, although she is not a joiner. She has her own apartment, but she needs help. It's very nice. They have all kinds of activities, like card games, trips, and things like that. The value is pretty good."

"Everything at Oxford Crossings was amazing. Carlen was extremely helpful and just had nothing but a ton of information for me, and it was all very helpful. The place was beautiful. The staff was amazing. The facilities were top-notch. It was a newer facility and had very high standards. The staff was just completely professional, very courteous, and very friendly. I was unable to sample a meal but they did show me a menu, and it seemed to be a rotating menu. They said special requests were also provided within reason, but it seemed like they go above and beyond for their residents. I was very impressed. I did meet the event coordinator, and she had a full list of activities."

"When you walked in at Deer Meadows, you felt comfortable. The people were very friendly, and my mother was there for rehab. They were very good; the people and the therapist were all wonderful and personable. They have transportation that would take them to places. The rooms were nice."

"I went to Wesley Enhanced Living Pennypack Park. The way they work is you can move into independent living, and then you can stay in that same apartment and do assisted living. We looked at one apartment, but I think it could have become both. You don't have to move out of your apartment until your assisted living gets to an extreme level. I was dazzled. I was disappointed that my father-in-law was not willing to move in that day. I would move in there. It feels very homey while at the same time it's extremely professional. I would describe it as very luxe. They have a beautiful courtyard. Everything is spotless. Any time we walked past a staff member with the tour guide, he knew their name, he introduced us, and they chit-chatted. It all felt very friendly and very genuine. It was great. We were in the dining room, and then they had a separate cafe. There are a few different places to get food. We looked at a couple of different menus, but we didn't try anything."

"Spring Hills was fantastic, except for the community fee. It was the nicest place I saw, so far. It was very classy, very beautiful, and clean, and had a hotel feel to it. It had a nice ice cream parlor. It was really big, so I think it was more suited for independent people or people who can get around. There were stairs when you first come in and marble floors, so it was beautiful. It wasn’t a good fit for my father because of the layout. "

"It was a good visit for us at Sunrise of Lower Makefield. It was a newer place. It was much brighter and more modern. The director was very nice and very knowledgeable. She shared some information with us. My dad is a veteran and she shared with us some government benefits that may be available to my mom because of my dad. She was great. The memory care unit was separate from the general population. She told us that they have different activities, but I never saw a schedule or a calendar with things going on."

"A friend of mine is a resident of Brookdale Evesham, so I go there every other week. We also toured the assisted living for my brother-in-law. It's very clean and they do lots of various things. Every day they have all kinds of activities. They interact so that the residents aren't alone in their rooms. Even if they're non-cognitive, they want them to be at least out in the public area so that they can see other people, and it's not like they're in senior jail. The staff members have been very nice when I go up at the front. The various different ones at the front desk don't know my name, but when they see my face, we say our hellos. They don't want guests coming into the dining room when the residents are in for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. If the residents are having some family members over, they have a separate little side room that they let them go and sit in if they want privacy. There's only so much seating, and they can have it for maybe two hours. My brother-in-law is still doing his own things, like his pills and showers, but they have people there who would come to help if he needs it. They also said that if you need more care and go from independent to assisted, you don't have to be moved to another wing or to another floor. You could still be in that room, and they would have it set up so that they would come to you, which is also very nice."

"Holland Village was a bit dated. It needed some repairs, which is very visible. The staff was nice. I think we met about three of the people. They were accommodating with the food, but I did not get the chance to taste it. The rooms were probably three stars. We didn't know what we were getting for those rooms, like one had carpeting. It was just hard to tell."

"We thought that The Philadelphia Protestant Home was where we're going to end up going, but it turned out to be undesirable in terms of price and facilities compared to other places. It's been there a long time and has a German background. We visited there several times, and the people who lived there loved it. They had a pool, a bowling alley, crafts room, a greenhouse, and really nice gardens to walk in with picnic shelters and lots of benches and flowers. They had a wonderful entry area with a fireplace and an open room. The staff was very helpful and gave us great tours twice. The only thing that was off-putting was that it costs $77,000 a year for an extremely small room. My brother-in-law is 6'2" and only in his 70s, so it's like putting him in a closet. We didn't have the money and I didn't want to put him in a box, so that's the only reason we didn't move there. They had continuous care and a good program. It's very lively, and I liked it a lot."

"The Birches is the best thing that's ever happened to my 92 year old father. He is very well taken care of and his mobility has improved significantly. He's feels like this is his home and it's taken all the stress away from my brother and I. I would always recommend The Birches."
