I visited this facility

I toured the Bristol Manor of Smithville's independent living, and the person who greeted me- I guess she was the manager- was sloppily dressed. She was not professional. If my brother had moved there, his living quarters would have been no more than a simple little, tiny hotel room, and that just didn't work. I just also felt like it was unclean, and I didn't like it at all. The person who did the tour showed me a room because it was right there in the hallway where the office was, but as soon as I saw that, I didn't even care to go any further. The building itself was old, and I just wasn't impressed at all. The parking was okay, but it was minimal.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My brother has moved into Bristol Manor of Smithville. It is air-conditioned and there's somebody there 24 hours a day. The meals are kind of skimpy, but he gets 3 a day. They're lacking in the quality of food. I do most of this scheduling stuff for his hospital or his doctor visits. I think that's something they should be able to do at that facility, but they don't. I have to provide his rides for him or schedule the rides for him. The place is clean, it's just that they don't seem to provide any extra. His apartment is relatively good-sized. They provided a better bed and a mattress than he had when he had his own place. They provide the medicines for them; the residents don't keep their own medicine. They had a birthday activity for him on his birthday, and that was nice. It's not a terrible place. They have a TV room and books and stuff to read. One lady was OK, but they ended up firing her and they got a new replacement. The lady that's running it now is kind of a gruff gal. She's not a real personable person. I suggest they increase the quality of the food and provide transportation. They should be aware of all the activities that are available in town for the seniors. It shouldn't be up to their families to have to depend on to locate transportation. They have individual rooms and most of them have refrigerators that they buy themselves, but there's no way to get to the store to put food in their refrigerator.
