I visited Connect55+ Kansas City and saw their independent living. I only got to see one room though, it was on the third floor, it had a nursing home smell, and I didn't like it. They do have a washer and dryer in each apartment. The person who showed me around was really nice. The landscaping on the outside was very nice too. It's a brick building and I was impressed with that. The day I went for a visit, I talked to one of the residents there, a lady, and she told me all about it. She said she's lived there for 5 or 6 years and she loved it. They don't have food except for Wednesday nights when they serve dinner with wine and beer.

I liked the staff at Connect55+ Kansas City. They were very friendly and very knowledgeable. They had a calendar of activities up, and it looked diverse like there was something there for everyone. They were very transparent about the costs and about what was included, which I appreciated. It was nice for them to be like, 'This is what it is.' That was great. The facilities were well kept, but for our needs, the room wasn't really that accessible. It would have worked great for other people, but the accessible rooms were either under construction or occupied. The rooms I saw weren't really what we were looking for. They had a community dining area, but only for people who would rent it for events. Sometimes there would be food involved, but it wasn't a situation where it was like dinner is at 6 and everybody comes and eats dinner, and they provide it. They could improve by having more ADA-compliant rooms available and probably having food packages included. Those are some of the biggest things.

The tour at Connect55+ Kansas City went well. I really liked what I saw. The property was well-kept. The apartments they showed me were what I was looking for. It all turned out real nice. They had a nice library, a TV room, and a game room. They had a little bit of everything. They had a program coordinator that comes in and works with the residents once a week. The staff during the tour was very pleasant and very knowledgeable. Every apartment had their own kitchen.

My mother decided to stay where she's at which is Connect55+ Kansas City. It's for 55 and over. They have fun activities, and the staff is really nice and helpful. There are no nursing facilities onsite. You have to be 55 to live there; that's the only requirement. It's very clean. They have a maintenance guy that does a wonderful job keeping up with everything. She does her own food.
