"Park Place Assisted Living is wonderful. I have nothing negative to say. The staff is wonderful. The majority of my father's caretakers have been there at that particular place of employment for over 15 years. He has no complaints about the food. They have a lot of activities like crafts and games. There's a room where they can go, and they have exercise bikes in there."

"My father-in-law has moved here. The place is small. It is different than a lot of the bigger communities. However, we feel like our father-in-law is getting very good day-to-day care. The people working there are very attentive and very communicative. When it came time to move him into the place, which we did at the last minute, they were very accommodating and extremely helpful to help us get him in there on short notice. Overall, our experience has been very positive so far. My father-in-law is in a room with a bedroom, a bathroom, and a small sitting area. They have three or four activities everyday, which is good. They are taking the residents on outings when they can. My father-in-law seems to like the food too."

"Friendship Village Kalamazoo is a big complex. They have a beautiful fitness center with a full-time fitness trainer, a nice library, a nice, beautiful dining room with nice tablecloths and flowers on the dining room tables, an art gallery, and there are patches for people who want to garden. They also have walking trails. They have apartments and also garden homes for people who want individual homes. We were pleased with the people who worked there and are living there. The staff was friendly, helpful, and cooperative."

"I have been to Brookdale Portage twice to look at the place and I'm actually going back there with my son. It was a very nice place. I liked that they had larger bedrooms. The facility looked lovely. It was very nice, clean, and very neat. The staff has been there for many years. I was able to talk to some of them, who have been there for 17 and 19 years, and that tells a lot. The food was delicious. The chef sat at the table with us, gave us a beautiful salad with vegetables and fruits, and everything was cut and displayed beautifully."

"My mom has been a resident of StoryPoint Portage for 10 months now. It's a very pleasant environment. The staff is outstanding. They're just very friendly, caring caregivers. They go above and beyond. She has just an efficiency. The food is very good. My mom doesn't participate in any activities, but we use the beauty salon services. They have an excellent beautician. There is a very nice courtyard. It's enhanced living. The executive director there knows that we're real pleased with the facility. It's very positive and very pleasant. I just think in general, assisted living and caregiving is just way too expensive."

"We are current residents of StoryPoint Kalamazoo. The food, activities, and facility are very good. We have been very pleased ever since we moved in. It represents a great place to live out your senior life. My apartment is a little over 1700 square feet. We have all the space that we really need. It's like a three-bedroom. We have endless activities. We go on trips, and we go on lunch and supper outings. We have a music review tonight of the spring music activities. We bring in artists from the university. We had the Kalamazoo Orchestra. Right now, my wife is practicing handbells for a handbell concert that is being held next week. We have a full woodshop, a stained-glass studio, and pottery. They have transportation to all the different things. The grounds are being redone. Inside, the facilities are being repainted and has new carpeting in and new furniture. It's like brand new. The food is very good. One nice thing we have here that most communities don't have is underground parking. It's incredible."

"I was very impressed with this facility. The rooms were spacious. My dad had a smile on his face for the first time in a long time. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. I love the dining area where the residents get to sit together. There is an excellent variety of activities and food. We will be bringing dad in starting March 1."

"My mother lived here for about 3 years. I toured several places over the years in the Kalamazoo area and since they were all for profit, as expected they were pleasant while recruiting me. This is a small facility. The staff greets you by name and like family. I was told that when I toured there but didn't really believe it. There are quite a few activities here. Since I paid my mother's invoice, she was always calling me to ask how much she paid for an activity. I was happy to tell her nothing since like most seniors she worried about running out of money. One really doesn't know however until a problem arises how they will respond. This is what happened with my mother after having a stroke. I could never thank the staff enough for the love, support and level of care given to my mother. Over the years I got to know the folks who worked during the day but after her stroke I got to meet several of the night shift as well and they were also wonderful. When they realized my mother would no longer be a resident, it was then they were at their best. It wasn't about the money. It was taking the best possible care of her while she was still there."

"I visited Bickford of Portage. What I like most about Bickford of Portage is the location, and they followed up. They have pretty much the same room as the other place. You have to bring your own furniture such as your bed. They also have indoor spaces, a beauty shop, and transportation."

"I'm in assisted living in Woodlawn Meadows. What I like about it is they provide activities for you throughout the day and that keeps us busy and keeps us from being lonely. I enjoy the exercise and I also enjoy puzzles with other people who live here. The staff has been very kind and loving towards us. I have not had any complaint with any of the staff members, and I enjoy the fact that I can go out with a family member and enjoy the day and come back. I continue to talk with the residents and they all seem to be very kind and loving also. I got a two-room apartment and a large closet and bathroom. I like the largeness of the apartment because I'm a quilter, and I'm still able to do that. I have my sewing machine here and I continue to sew. I have some quilts on the wall and I have residents that come by once in a while and compliment me on my quilts, which is a very satisfying thing. I'm a very plain eater and sometimes spices or herbs are added in the food, and that would be my only complaint."
