Beautiful facility, but extremely bland Memory Care. From my personal viewing and experience, there isn’t much to offer Memory Care. The activities are a bit scattered and childish. The walls are bare, there never seemed to be even a simple routine for Memory Care. I was disappointed at the lack of decorations for any holiday and the lack of visual stimulation. There just wasn’t anything for Memory Care residents to do but wander around. Rooms are kind of like hotel rooms, but residents in Memory Care are unable to even utilize the kitchen area in their rooms, so it seems insensitive to have amenities that aren’t useful for every single day.

I visited this facility

I went to BrightStar Senior Living of Fort Wayne. It was smaller. It's more geared to memory care than assisted living. It was very clean. Everything was brand new, but the rooms reminded me of a hotel room. There was a microwave and a small apartment-sized refrigerator with a sink. There were just a couple of cabinets, so it is really not a functioning kitchen. It might be good to warm your coffee, but not to cook a meal. There was one small bedroom and a bathroom. It was way too small for us. I just met one woman at the desk. We did have an appointment, but someone forgot to tell her. She was very accommodating. She asked us to wait while she could get a couple things together, and then she took us on a tour. She was very, very pleasant. The dining area was small, and it looks more like an institutionalized, lunch counter type dining area. I would not call it a formal dining area. They have a salon. I think that the person came in once a week to do everybody's hair. They had a nice little sitting area with books and bookshelves. It was kept very well. I was not impressed with the dining area or the menu.

I visited this facility

We went to BrightStar Senior Living of Fort Wayne, and toured there, and made a deposit there, so I think we're pretty much set. The people were very friendly, they were very professional, and they explained what they were doing. They explained the ratio between the caregivers and the patients, and they showed the activity sheets that they had printed out weekly for the activities of the memory care patients. That's basically the main things that we like about it. For activities, without looking at my list, they talked about flower arranging, Bible studies, and supervising reading. We met two professionals, the head, and the lady who was in charge of the memory care. We had two professionals who talked with us. The food smelled very good. There was no odor as far as a bad odor. Sometimes you go in the building, and it smells of disinfection, or it smells of urine, but there was no offensive odor. It was excellent. It was very clean. They have amenities, too.

I visited this facility

I liked BrightStar Senior Living of Fort Wayne. It was appealing and bright, and the rooms were nice. The staff was very friendly. The reason I didn't choose it was because it was a little higher priced and I thought it was a little bit more difficult for my driving. I didn't want to drive in a lot of traffic. The staff was very nice.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

BrightStar is a very small community of only 46 residents. Right now, they've only got, I think 18, so they're giving good care at this point. The food is better than the other homes my aunt has been in. The apartments are very nice. I know they have a dining room and a nice patio in the back. They also have a computer for general use. The senior staff is very welcoming and accommodating.

I visited this facility

I liked BrightStar Senior Living of Fort Wayne, but it was $2,000 a month more. It was absolutely gorgeous. It's within five minutes of my home. One of the things that impressed me the most was that their memory care was up on the second floor, which is fine, and they had elevators, but they had a beautiful, completely glassed-in front of the building and one side was actually a gorgeous garden up on the second floor that's all glass. You can sit out there and watch the traffic, and Coldwater is a very busy road. The staff was delightful, and I was very pleased.

I visited this facility

We had an in-person tour of BrightStar. It was very nice. We were treated very good. We had a good tour, but the cost was just too much for my mom. Everything was clean. It smelled good. They had home-cooked meals. They only need to improve on the price. They were letting people visit. It was a very good visit.

I visited this facility

We went to BrightStar Senior Living of Fort Wayne. There was no individual patio for the residents, and I didn't care for that. It's small which is nice, because the staff gets to know their clients pretty well, and I think that gives a bit personal care. I was impressed with how clean it was, and how organized it was. I found the unit a bit small, they're very small apartments, that's fine for people who want to be out of their units all day, and I think it's well suited for people in their 80s and 90s. I think the place is nice and the staff is very organized, efficient, and very friendly. The library, game room and lobby area is small. I think it's a very positive place. They cook from scratch, and I was very much impressed with the staff, from the director, her assistant, and the receptionist. It's one of the better places in Fort Wayne.

I visited this facility

BrightStar Senior Living of Fort Wayne was a really nice place, but it's just starting up. They only had four residents when I visited and we were unsure whether my dad would enjoy that since there won't be a lot of interactions with people. The rooms were really nice, though they probably could have been larger. They have an enclosed patio with an open patio on the second floor directly above it, so they have an open area within the building. They also have a sidewalk within the area so you can be outdoors. The dining area was nice and very bright because it's right next to the patio. Maybe it's a bit small, but from the size of the building, it's very adequate. They had a nice sitting area and a game room. They were playing some kind of game while we were there. There weren't many people to start with, but it looks like they have things to keep them busy. It seems like they've only been open for two to three months.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I am the elder brother of Your resident, Tom Feely at your Ft. Wayne location, on Coldwater. I recently visited him and was totally impressed with your staff and the care that TOM is receiving. He is blessed to be a resident at Brightstar. You are blessed to have this outstanding man as your resident. Let me tell you a little bit about Tom Feely. He is a college graduate...a former Officer in the US Army...a retired Vice President of DANA Corporation...a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He and his late wife Sally are parents of 5 remarkable children. Unfortunately, recent years have been unkind to kind. He has suffered from 3 strokes, and mild dementia has set in. His family and I are totally pleased with the care, understanding, and love that you are providing him. Sherry Johnson, in particular, is enriching his life! Emmett P. Feely Jr.

Regular assessments performed by a nurse take each resident’s physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and social needs into consideration to promote optimal wellness and purposeful approaches to behavioral expressions day in and day out. These assessments further inform a highly individualized plan of care, combining care and medication support when and how it’s needed based directly on your unique needs.
