The Best Independent Living Communities in Westmoreland County, PA

"Paramount Senior Living-Bethel is a very nice place. They have a lot of activities which is what my sister likes about it. Every day they have something for them to participate in. The staff seems to be very nice. My sister is very happy there, but she complains about the meals. I have eaten there and I found it was pretty good institutional food. The facility, like any other places, is expensive and that in time would be a problem if she runs out of money. "

"I toured Harmony at Harts Run, and Dominique was the one we saw. She's pretty young and seems she knows her stuff pretty well. The facility is brand new. Everything's brand new in the place, it's a big place so they are a little more expensive. That was the biggest negative on it, the expense. They have a one-year reset contract and a move-in fee. They have some extra costs for incontinence issues, which is one of the things I'm concerned about. It's unfurnished, you supply your TVs and stuff like that, but they have lots of activities. They have a nice dining room. They have staff nurses on-site and it's a pretty nice facility. They have a salon, a TV room, and a little theater if I'm not mistaken. They have activities rooms, and a large court, where in the summertime people can be outside and yet they're still protected. On the first floor, they have a memory care area. So that's pretty nice because then there are no elevators and other things to deal with. The biggest drawback of that for us is just the location. It's a little far out of the way."

"We toured The Residence at Bethel Park, and it was very nice and clean. The only difficulty was finding it. They could use some signage on how to locate them from the main roads, like a sign that had their name on it that pointed to where you had to get off the main road. It was extremely difficult, and it was not on a main road. The people were all very nice and helpful. We saw the studio, and it was small. There is just barely enough room for a bed and a sofa."

"My mother says that they are very friendly and very gentle with her at the Grand Residence. Unfortunately, she doesn’t communicate too well anymore. They seem to be very caring and attentive to concerns that I bring up, and so I have been happy with them. She has an apartment with a separate bedroom, a living room, dining room, and kitchenette area. Other places could not provide this for us. "

"I enjoyed meeting with the marketing director of Paramount Senior Living at Peters Township. He spent two and a half hours with us, went over everything, and toured us in the facility. I was somewhat familiar with the facility already from a few years ago and I was very pleased. They have the standard amenities that they do for an assisted living, like medications, incontinence monitoring, and helping with dressing. They did not offer any food at this time because of the restrictions, I guess because of Covid. Normally, they would offer for you to come to lunch or dinner, but at this time, they are not letting family members join in the meals."

"Ashton Commons Senior Living is the perfect place that I want to live. I love it there. It's pretty. It has a nice little house with a washer and dryer. They have a little garage on the side. There are two bedrooms. They have grass and nice flowers and everything. I toured the whole inside, the restaurant, the entertainment area, all the stuff that they do, and they have a church there, which I would love to get involved in. It's just perfect. The houses are outside the building. They have availability, but I can't afford $4,200. You could walk right in your front door. It's all on one floor. They have everything and it's so nice. The ladies were so nice. There's a restaurant where you can eat, and there's a little entertainment section. They have alcohol and all that, but I don't drink at all. The staff member showed me the church, and they have non-denominational Christians and different religions that you can go and worship, and it's right there walking distance for me to get there. My dog is my service dog. All the ladies loved my little dog. I would give anything to stay there. The people I spoke with were so kind and so open and they wanted to help me. They told me the name of the director that I would be working with. I felt very safe there. It's new and it's clean. They have independent apartments upstairs, but I would prefer having my own to put my car in a garage, and be able to live in my own home, and it's small and nice. There were no steps. I talked to some of the ladies, and I did look at some of the entrees, and they looked very plentiful. It looked like they make nice, good food there."

"Connect55+ Penn Township is strictly an apartment. There are things that they do with residents, like arts and crafts, there is a library and things like that, but as far as the apartment, that's it. Their offer was not exactly what I was looking for. You do all the cleaning and cooking and whatever you want, but it was a very nice place. The gentleman that showed us around and the one that helps with the arts and crafts or entertainment were both very nice."

"I chose Cloverleaf Communities because it was convenient for me to move in relatively quickly. The location was really good. The people here are very friendly. They offer amenities that I needed and it fits well within my budget. They do have a lot of activities like weekly bingo and they have monthly dinners out at restaurants. They do offer a meal at the community center for a small fee. They also have different clubs such as a book club, card club, sewing club, and other things. This is definitely just for independent living and they don’t offer any kind of assistance. "

"The apartments in Hempfield Towers were very nice. It was perfect for me because I am handicap and they allowed pets and I had a bird and a dog and it had a balcony. It has a homey environment. The maintenance people were very good, if you asked them to do something and they'll do it right away. "

"Redstone Highlands Personal Care has a very good reputation. I have friends who has their parents staying at that facility. They were very friendly and open. I was a walk-in and without an appointment, but they showed me around and spent more than adequate time with me. But there were no vacancies for the type of care that my mother needed at that time. I did not sample of their food, but I did see the menu and there were numerous options. I was surprised of how they operate. It's quite commendable. "

"Redstone was nice as the one I chose for my mother, but it was much more expensive. There was a variety of different sizes and layouts of the apartments. They were very clean. The food there was very good as well. The dining area was very clean, very bright, and very accommodating. They had doctors that came in, or they would take you to the doctors. They had constant activities going on. They had several recreation rooms and library. They took them shopping and on field trips. "

"I did a tour of Redstone Highlands Senior Living Communities. It's beautiful, but it's too expensive for the skilled care unit or memory unit. The food is fabulous. You can take your meals down there or not. The apartments were spacious. You can pay more for a balcony and have a beautiful view on a hill. They had a little chapel that was pretty, and they don't have any pools. The staff was lovely. They even have birthday cakes for everybody's birthday, every month. They're hospitable, friendly, and caring. It's gorgeous and well landscaped. The buildings are pretty, and there's a lot of parking. They have clubs and things, but I don't really know about the amenities. I was more interested in the food and how it looks. The cost, of course, was paramount. The food was delicious. It was wonderful. The dining room was lovely. I was so surprised; it was elegant. It's a five out of five. The waitresses are five out of five. It's a top-notch place. The memory unit is like $9,000 a month, which is a lot. I think you can rent an independent living for like $2,300 a month, if you want a balcony. The other unit for assisted living where you need nursing staff, maybe is $7,800. It's pricey."

"Loyalhanna Senior Suites & Personal Care is a very nice place. Mom is in personal care. Her room's huge and has a very big bathroom. When you go down the halls, you're almost like at a hotel. Their dining area is really big and friendly, and they have a sitting area where it looks like you could pull up and have a cocktail if you wanted. They have a movie theater on their fourth floor and a library. They have four floors and they have different things on each floor. Just like any place, they're understaffed, but the girls that are there are very nice. It's clean and very nice. It doesn't smell. Their rooms are big. She has a bed, a recliner, kitchenette, little fridge, cabinets, a sink, TV, big closet, and a big bathroom. The layout is pretty nice and spacious. She likes it. There are days the food's not great. The dining area is real big and open. There's a fireplace in there. They always have it decorated and what I really like about it is they have a staff that comes around, almost like you're at a restaurant and they'll tell you what they're having for the day. If you don't care for that, they have other options that you can pick. There's something going on every day. They have bingo and crafts. I think they had some kind of little golf thing going on the other day. They have ice cream socials and milkshake socials. They have happy hours. I'm trying to get my father in over there too and the pricing they gave me was a little bit cheaper than what they wanted for two people up at the other place and there's so much more offered here at Loyalhanna."

"I currently own my home here at the Village of Clover Ridge. It is 55 + community. The amenities they have are a clubhouse and it has a pool table in there. They have a dining hall in there where we do the different events that they hold there, a Bocce ball, a covered picnic area with two gas ranges out there and an exercise room with equipment in there. They do recycling. They have different exercise classes like yoga. They have a book club and a coffee club. They were having different lecture series that would come through that's happened in different times. The community is pretty active, lots of people are out walking around all the time. It's very safe, very quiet with lovely neighbors. It certainly is not a shi-shi community but it's very well-kept. I have no problems with anything really, they were extremely minor. It's a very nice community. Everybody takes care of their own yard. We've got some beautiful views up here depending on where you're located. They used to take people on trips once a month. They go on outing and got a bus service up here that takes people to go shopping."
