The Best Independent Living Communities in Butler County, PA

"The Arbors at St Barnabas is a great place. The staff is very professional and very easy to work with. They were able to get my mom in the facility as soon as possible. We went and visited after a month that she is in there, and they are really, really great. The room that she is in is a double room, and it's a good size room. It has beautiful surroundings. She's involved with all kinds of activities every day. They have physical and craft activities as well as social activities. They have an excellent counselor who sends me email updates at least once a week. Also the reason why we chose the place is because they will keep her all the way to nursing care. "

"The one-bedrooms at Passavant Community did not have a balcony or a patio and I don't care to walk down a hall and down an elevator to get some fresh air. They have villas and little cottages with a garage, but you pay for all that. The lady suggested that maybe I might like a cottage, whose layout is probably about the same size as the one bedroom in the building. So I went over and looked at the cottage. You could go out the back door and there would be a little patio back there. They have a swimming pool. It's like a little town with these little streets with these cottages and villas and then the main building where they have their activities. It seemed too much for me. Even if I could afford it, I don't know that I would utilize all that. The staff did their job. They showed me around and gave me all the information I needed, but they weren't interested in me. They were just interested in showing me what they needed to show me. It had a nice library. It had a nice dining area and had all the activities you could want."

"The staff at Concordia was very friendly and helpful. They spent a lot of time explaining the different options and they took us on a tour of the facility. They were well trained and would be able to meet our needs in the future. They had single-room units and multiple room units where people could share. The facility was an older facility but it was very clean, well maintained and well run. It looked very good and they offered about everything. It was one the facilities we were considering when we would made a decision where to put my mother-in-law. We also selected that one because my mother-in-law had a close friend who's in that facility right now. So, we thought it would be beneficial. I would highly recommend them to others. "

"The place was fabulous. It was very warm and welcoming. The people were so wonderful, explaining everything, all the wonderful features that the facility has. We went down the hall and literally walked through the whole entire thing, seeing each of the rooms: the art room, the library, and the music room. We went upstairs to see the beauty shop and then across from that is the dining area. And then we looked at two different rooms. The models are set up gorgeous. I wish that they rented them furnished because that would have been perfect for what we need. But anyway, beautiful setup. I can't say enough good things about it. The exercise room was full of people. There was a class there. There were people in the swimming pool. I did see those two classes going on, and there's lots of walking trails there. I used to work in that area, so I know the area very well, and I actually used to go on those walking trails way before it was even built. What I like about it is that you have the month-to-month rental, because a lot of the other places charge a huge upfront amount. And if something happens the next day or days later or months later you don't get any of that money back. It just is all absorbed. So, I really like that."

"St. Barnabas Nursing Home is nice and huge. Their one building has four or five floors with lots of rooms; some of them are one-bedrooms and some of them are two-bedrooms, and they have apartment-type settings if you're able to cook. They probably have three or four dining rooms. Their basement is like a mall with a post office, jewelry store, snack shop, and coffee shop. They also have good therapy. They had a separate building for people who are there for rehab. I think you buy into it so you have to have money before you can even go there. "

"My doctor said she has heard some nice things about Sherwood Oaks. We dropped by, they gave us a tour, and I never looked at anything else. It was convenient for my children. They live in this area. It had everything I needed, and it has different levels if I would want to move on to the next level. The staff is very helpful. There are lots to do if I want to, and I am getting involved. They have a beautiful library, and I help in there. I go to a knitting class, and I joined an exercise class. The food is wonderful, and we have a menu to choose from everyday. I am in a patio home, so I have a bedroom, a living room, and a kitchen. I have another room and I am using it for dining. The security is wonderful. They walk the property, and they drive around. It's a huge facility with beautiful gardens. At night after dinner, they have programs and movies, and kids come in and sing, I'm a little bit nervous being out at night here, and I don't like to be out at night alone anyway, so I don't participate in a lot of them. "

"My mother moved into the independent living level. It was recently built like less than a year ago, so it's very new. It's physically a very nice community with nice apartments. It has all the usual amenities, they do clubs, and have movie nights. They have an in-house dining facility, and they provide the residents with lunch and dinner. It's a very pretty and well-put together community. It's an apartment building in a parking lot with some stores and some residential areas nearby. It's like two minutes away from the highway, so it's fairly convenient. Of all the senior places we've looked at, this was the best combination for us in terms of location, price, and facility quality. I think it's a moderate price for the level of quality that's offered. There are areas that could be better, but we like them. Their staff is good, they're nice, friendly, and polite. Their food is also very good."

"We're here at Highpointe at Rebecca. All of us are like family. The residents do things together. Most of the staff members are very friendly and very helpful if we have any problems. We play cards twice a week, we play mah-jong, we have game night, happy hour every Friday, and a free breakfast every morning. We can buy our lunch at a reasonable rate, and our meals are right in the building. We can either eat in the dining room or we can cook in our rooms. We have get-togethers among ourselves. We do activities on our own."

"Alexis Manor is very, very nice. But they only offer 1-bedroom. It's very well-run. They bring over the kids from grade school and they put on little shows and play bingo and stuff with the folks that live there, which is kind of cool. "

"My parents lived here for almost a year, unfortunately. My dad's health degraded, and they had to move on to a facility with more care due to my father's decline. However, I can't say enough positive about Hampton Fields. My mom misses it terribly. It is a great place for high functioning elders. I heard many residents say "If you don't like it here, you won't like it anywhere". It was a very up-beat, happy place to be. I enjoyed seeing the joy of the residents. The entertainment is fantastic, the decor is beautiful, the food is great, the place is clean, the workers care about the residents, etc. They took my parents to mass every Sunday, then there was a reception back at Hampton Fields after church with coffee, donuts, camaraderie and laughter. There were many outings (casino, restaurants, etc.) that my parents enjoyed tremendously. Their time at Hampton Fields left us with fond, happy memories. I'm sad that it ended too soon. "

"We toured Ashton Commons Senior Living. It was very nice. It's a brand-new place, and it was beautiful. They had cottages, which we didn't go to see because we talked about the price before they took us to show us anything. We knew they were too expensive. We were in their general area, and we saw their dining area and their main common areas. Everything was brand new, and the people there were extremely nice. They had signs up that said they had different programs, like bingo, crafts, and outings, and that you could sign up for. They had rides to appointments like if you had doctor's appointments."

"Cumberland Woods Village was good. The staff members were friendly and professional. We toured their independent living. They have 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom, and 3-bedroom facilities. They were pretty new, so they were very modern and very beautiful. They have a meal plan, and you can dine or not because the units included kitchens. They have an assisted living, but we did not tour that. They even had a theater. They have somebody come in and clean your apartment once a week. I actually do have a friend who lives there. "

"There is a $100,000 initial deposit and entrance fee here at Vincentian Villa, but you or your heirs can get back $90,000 when you leave. The apartments are lovely and each has a balcony or a patio. The maintenance men that are here are good, but there's a shortage of maintenance staff. There are nice activities and nice amenities. They will take us to the grocery store and to our doctors (that's free within five miles), and they will take us to get our haircuts. We have a book club, a Bridge club, a Bible study, card playing like 500, oftentimes/once a month a movie, and then there's always some sort of entertainment once a month, too. We have to pay for the meals, but the meals will be delivered to your door. There's no dining room. I was happy with the food I had. I've been very happy with the place and I love my apartment. I'm just so pleased with it. It's two bedrooms, two bathrooms with a nice-sized kitchen, and a nice-sized living room. The whole place is the least expensive of all the places that I've looked at."

"We found The Commons at Stonebrook Village for my aunt. We have a very good experience, the staff is excellent, the room is very, very nice, and we're very happy with the place. It's very nice, very clean, and very welcoming, the layout is very pleasant, they have independent living apartments, and they also have patio homes, and condominiums. My aunt is very pleased with the food. The activities seemed casual, and everybody seemed to be very happy with it."
