I have a considerable experience as my Mom has been in and out of numerous facilities the last decade. St. Johns has been far and away the very best. The place is clean, no signs of what I call the “ the nursing home cologne”. There is no offensive odor which speaks volumes to the care and cleanliness. In addition, the staff seems to be attentive and will go out of there way to make the patients happy. They seem to really care about those they care for. Lastly, the effort that goes into providing a vibrant social life is nothing short of amazing. From a Casino Night, an Elvis impersonator and Bingo days, the residents have a means to stay involved and not withdraw. I hope this helps put your concerns to rest.

My friend is in St. John Community. They have two buildings. The one building was more expensive and was independent living. The building where my other friend moved into was a combination the nursing home started out lowest and then the next floor was assisted living and then the top fifth floor was independent living. The other one appeared nicer and also freestanding, not with the nursing home and assisted living and things attached. We looked at it, but it was quite expensive. They were both independent living, but this one was perched on top of the nursing home and assisted living, so that part didn't seem good because in order for her to do any of the activities like bingo, she'd have to go downstairs and play with the assisted living or to the nursing home, and that's not quite what we're looking for. She's up on the independent level, but the only thing up there was a laundry room, which was free. It was nice like a laundromat with a number of washers and dryers. They had an exercise room which had maybe an elliptical and two bicycles or something. They had a library and that was it. It was a small 27-apartment building. It was clean and neat and well cared for. It's just limited in what they offer. They had like a walk-through cafeteria, like you were in high school, like with a tray. They typically had one choice of salads, desserts, and things and you had to take your tray and go sit down at a little Formica table in this little tiny dining room. The staff was fine. They said they clean every two weeks and my friend had been there for months and they cleaned four times. So they weren't kind of keeping up to their promises.

My relative is at St. John Specialty Care Center. We can't keep her up for too long because it's $2,090 a month. Right now, she's in the assisted area because she needs to have a care for her mental health. That's why she can't be here with us, she needs to be somewhere where they help her every day, but we want her out of there because it's for old people, and she's only 58 years old. She's young and beautiful for her age. That's why we're trying very hard to get her help. She said they're doing crafts, and trying the best they can with COVID. That's about all I know, because we're not allowed to visit her, but I talk to her on the phone. The only thing she's unhappy about is she says it's not home cooking, 'cause she's an excellent cook. She's actually a gourmet cook, that's the only complaint she has. The people there are kind, loving, helpful, wonderful, and nice people. They call and talk to me, and they've sent me a lot of literature. They're just sad about my relative not being able to have company right now, but she has her cellphone, and she can talk, which is a blessing. They are the most caring, sweet, and helpful people you will ever meet. My relative has been there once before, and she had been there a couple of months when I got to visit her. She loves the food. Actually, I would go up there and they would charge you. It used to be $3 and I enjoyed eating there. It was very nice. The food is always hot, served nicely, and they are always very kind to you. They have their own room, they get to decorate it, and she has a plant. Her kids helped her to decorate her room, so it's quite lovely, and they're very kind. Then each person has their own bag hanging on their door and they each get their laundry done. They have a beauty shop there to get their hair done. She's only been up there for a little while yet, but when she was there before she was there a couple of months.

My Dad has been a resident of this facility for approximately 9 months. We initially thought we had made a good choice. Boy were we wrong ! My Dad has dementia and they told my Mom that he would have to be moved as he now requires more care than they can handle. They gave us very little warning so my 84 year old Mom had to scramble to find another facility that would take him. She actually found 3 that were willing to take him so he wouldn`t have to go to a nursing home like St. John`s wanted us to do. As if that wasn`t bad enough, as my Mom and us were moving his furniture and belongings out, St John`s neglected to tell us that Dad had gotten a covid test and that they were waiting on the results. Had my Mom known, we would`ve waited until the results came back before moving his belongings out. Now my Dad`s belongings are all moved out and he is stuck in his room at St. John`s with NOTHING. He can`t move anywhere and everything he owns is at the new facility. Gross incompetence and total lack of caring on full display. Hopefully he can move out tomorrow. It can`t happen soon enough. The only thing these people can do well is take your money. If I could give 0 stars I would.

This facility is grossly understaffed! I am afraid to say more because my grandparent is still in the facility and I don't want backlash, but if you have a choice, we don't , look somewhere else.

St. John Lutheran was pretty good. We did not eat there, but the variety of the food seemed fine. The facility was fine and adequate.

It so happened that my sister had volunteered at St. John, so I was glad she could go somewhere that she was familiar with before she passed away. I saw activities on the calendar, but she wasn't able to partake in anything like that. They did try to encourage her when she was alert. The security was very good as far as I know. I had to stay at night sometimes, they were very caring as they made sure I was comfortable too, and I can't think of anything they could improve on frankly. I was very pleased.

St John provides compassionate, efficient service to my 96 year old mother-in-law. From the day she was admitted she has been content there and well cared for. The staff is loving and patient and there are activities that she enjoys. She also enjoys the meals and the snacks. It's a place where she can be herself despite her dementia and be accepted and comfortable.

My mother has been in St John Lutheran Care Center since July. It's a nice place. It's clean and well-maintained and the staff is cheerful and attentive.

The LAS St John facility is certainly one I would recommend. The grounds are meticulously maintained. Inside the facility the resources are top notch. They maintain a game room, pool for senior water aerobics. The residents also stated that the food was much better than they expected in an assisted living facility. The nursing and orderly staff are all very personable and treat the resident with the respect that the elders have earned the right too.

While visiting this facility, I was impressed by the politeness of the staff. However, many of the times that my grandfather needed assistance, it took a very long time for a nurse to assist us. I believe this is because the facility is not staffed well enough to care for the resident. I also was not impressed with the cleanliness of the facility. Although everything appeared clean, the stench of dirty sheets could be smelled as soon as you walked out of the elevator. On a more positive note,I was impressed by the food the residents were given. There was proper variety of the essential food groups and vitamins as well as being tailored to the individual patient when needed. I was also upset by the constant rerooming of my grandfather. While being placed in the facility was difficult enough for him, the transition was made even more difficult by the constant relocating. This delayed him from getting in a set routine and used to the facility. In this sense, I was very disappointed by the facility's ability to be prepared for my grandfather's arrival.

As we entered the building I first noticed a friendly, clean environment. We were immediately welcomed and directed to his room. The receptionist was not only helpful but very friendly, and made us feel at ease from the moment we entered. The room was very spacious, clean and homey. He had quick access to a balcony to enjoy some fresh air. The nurse and staff that came in his room while we visiting were very friendly and pleasant. They made us feel as if we were visiting him at his home, and not a care facility. I was pleasantly surprised with the staff and atmosphere. The home is mainly for older individuals, but being a younger person I feared he would be out of place and uncomfortable. This was not the case at all. We had a very nice experience, and he speaks highly of his care while he was there. I would highly recommend St. Johns to anyone that asks me about my experiences there.

This is a very large facility, and all the employees seem to be friendly and caring. My main concern is that it is understaffed. Good care is given to your loved ones, but if they are seeking social interaction with the workers, its best to take them somewhere else. The doctors there are knowledgeable but they too have a heavy case load. I really don't think they know one patient from the next unless the chart is in front of them. There is a lot of housekeeping and maintenance staffed during the day, you can find one easily if you have a problem. Nurses and aides, however, always seem to be too busy to talk to and take a very long time to answer the call bells. (My grandmother once had to wait 20 minutes to get clean silverware after she dropped hers...her food was cold by then) My grandmother does enjoy all the bingo and activities. There is a hair salon in the building where she gets it set every week. All in all it is a clean and safe environment, they just don't seem to have enough caregivers in such a large facility.

We had to move my grandfather into this facility when we decided that it was not safe for him to live on his own any longer. The staff has been nothing but wonderful to him. He is not exactly the easiest person to try and care for because he can be downright ornery. The staff has been very helpful with my dad as he was trying to get all of the paperwork straightened out for the payment and insurance coverage. I think that if I had to find something to complain about, that the only thing I could think of is the fact that the visitor's elevator tends to be out of service for maintenance. Other than that, I could not have found a more caring place for my grandfather to spend the last years of his life.

When entering St. Johns Specialty Care Center you will find the warm welcome from the receptionist at the entrance. Directions and a visitors badge are provided for security purposes. This center is located in the small, but quaint town of Mars, PA. The facility as a whole is designed with specific areas for patients: Demmentia, Alzheimers, Long Term Acute Ventilator Care, and General Care units. They have a new center just opening this month May 2011 for the memory impaired and this center is classified under personal care. The staff are very friendly and accomodating to the needs of the patient and family. The serene environment and location of this center makes it a nice choice for a family who desires the small town feel.
