The Best Assisted Living Communities in Allegheny County, PA

"I went to Juniper Village at South Hills. Everybody there was very nice. The administrator was very nice, friendly, and very thorough with the walkthrough. They're going through renovations. And so the place is immaculate. It's beautiful. The apartment sizes like the studios are a nice, decent size. And then they have the one-bedrooms, and those are also nice. And what they're doing as residents move out, they're renovating each room individually to just update them. And so it is a lovely place. It's so clean and so friendly, and a great atmosphere. My mother has an onset of dementia. So even the lockdown wards, if once they evaluated her, she would be in a lockdown ward. But as long as she has an aide with her, she's able to go outside and do everything, she just can't do it independently. And they've got plenty of recreational areas and little like snack downs if you will. So if they want to have like an afternoon snack or a drink or something like that, that is all available. They have plenty of activities. I looked at the activity calendar and they've got a lot of stimulating activities. Also, I looked at a sample of their menus and it had a lot of great food choices."

"The Residence at Whitehall was nice. The staff seemed very nice. Their independent living area was what we were looking for with 1 and/or 2 bedrooms. It was very spacious and seemed very safe. They allowed pets, too."

"My aunt is at Sycamore Estate Inc. I was very impressed with it. It was very bright, very clean, comfortable, and very welcoming to my aunt, which was very reassuring for us. They helped her settle in very well. They provided all of the services that we were looking for at a very good price, and she is happy there. She says that the food is quite good. She has a shared room, and it was very neat and comfortable. It looked very nice to me, but they were doing renovations to put in a lot of improvements, which I thought was really impressive. It's a very well-kept and well-run facility. The staff is very professional, very knowledgeable, very friendly, accessible, and responsive. She is such a picky eater, and she has not offered any complaints."

"Overlook Green is very professional, and the overall place is bright and inviting. They inspired confidence that my mother-in-law would be well taken care of. My husband had dinner there, and he said it was great. The staff is knowledgeable, attentive, and experienced. "

"I like how clean it was, how everything was open and available to all the people who live there, and the staff was great. I looked at both assisted living and independent living. The staff who gave me the tour was very knowledgeable. She gave me a tour of the whole place, and it seemed like she didn't hide anything. It's a great place. They got in-house physical therapy; it looked great. They have a gym, a salon, and an in-house doctor. It was close to where she's living now. It's near all the hospitals, too."

"I have nothing but praise for all of these employees. They are always cheerful, patient and glad to help. They even get a message to my dad when he doesn't answer the phone. There are plenty of activities and my father is happy with the food. "

"We moved into Harmony at Harts Run. We love it and we're very happy here. When they don't take us in the van, we can drive easily because we're just five or ten minutes from all the stores and restaurants we could want, and we can walk across the street to ten great places. They do all the cleaning, all the laundry, and change the beds for us. There's nothing I have to do. And we like the one meal a day plan because lunch is all we eat big, anyway. We can go to breakfast or dinner and pay separately for that meal, and the price is reasonable and the food is delicious. They got a new chef, and he's even better. All the restaurants around here deliver, too. This facility is only a year and a half old. They have assisted living and continuing care if we need it. We were the first one in our two-bedroom, two-bath apartment, so it's brand new. We love its layout. Our apartment is larger than many places, and we have a sun porch. We have the vaulted ceiling, so it just feels so spacious. All the people here are wonderful."

"We've been very pleased with Paramount Senior Living-Bethel. The price was good, the facility was good, and they seemed to know their residents. The process of applying was relatively simple. They have a nice activities area where they show movies, and they have a couple nice lounge areas where people can sit and talk and have get togethers, like ice cream socials and happy hour. They have a little cafe type setting where there's coffee, water, juices, and fruits available all the time. They offer transportation. They have a beauty parlor, a podiatrist, a doctor that comes in, and nurses on each floor. It's very well kept, very open, there are a lot of windows, it's bright and cheery, the dining area is quite beautiful, and well kept, with linens on the table, and the food is good. I stayed there for two days to help acclimate my aunt who has Alzheimer's. I was there 24/7 and everybody worked really hard. There was nobody sitting around just chatting. They were very friendly and caring, and went out of their way to come and introduce themselves. She's in the independent care with just some medication management."

"I’m here at Paramount Senior Living at South Hills. I have a large one-bedroom with a lot of furniture from home. It may not have the menus that other places have but here you have room. They have a gazebo, nice grounds, a lot of bingo, and poker some nights. They have a little garden club, and the other day, we went to the meadow. They go to Walmart once in a while. There’s a doctor across the street but the doctor I go to weekly is in Coraopolis and the daughter of one of the aides here drives me to Coraopolis and back. They serve three meals."

"Everytime I visit the place is getting nicer and more up to date. The staff are friendly and make him happy living there."

"Mom moved into Sterling Home last September. The place is nice and the rooms are decent. The only thing I have is that if you want a room with a bathroom, you have to pay more. If not, you have to use the community bathroom. I like the staff. They do care about the residents, and I've never seen them mistreat anyone. I know that my mother has never felt mistreated. As far as the services, they wash her clothes, make sure that she gets her meds, and they provide her with meals. I'm pretty much satisfied with the services that she receives. There are no activities going on there. They are indicating that most of the residents don't want to participate. The dining area is clean, but I think the selection could be better."

"I like that it was clean. I like that the staff seemed friendly and I like that it's close to where I live at. The atmosphere seemed nice. The staff during the tour was very polite and very informative, and they helped me with anything that I asked. They gave you the schedule of what they had as far as their food, where they eat, how they treat people, how they help them go to make their appointments, their room, and stuff like that. The dining hall was big and it was bright and the furniture was nice. They are pet friendly. They have a beauty salon. The highlight of the tour was the building itself and the people."

"My Mother, (Lucille) was a resident of Abode Care of Monroeville, Pa. for 2 years after living in her own home for 65 years and was 98 years old when she went to Abode, She had been living alone and was very depressed and difficult, whereas, once she moved into Abode it was amazing her turnaround in all aspects and loved the staff and residents which she then called her home! She was the most happy in the past 20 years the last two years of her life that she lived at Abode, The staff, facility and all the little personal extras they give is the best value and peace of mind one could have for their loved ones in the care provided by Abode. "Grace Manor at North Park was very nice. They had chefs who prepared the meals. The dining room was very lovely, and the whole place was very nice. The shared room was more affordable than a private room. The ideal thing would be to have a private room. The person who assisted us was the owner-administrator who was very knowledgeable and very caring. I think he and his wife started the facility because one of them had a parent in a nursing home care and I believe his wife is a psychologist who deals with the elderly. They had a very nice facility with a lot of care. They gave their staff incentives for answering the call back on time, so that keeps the staff on their toes. It seemed to be a very nice facility and is one of our favorites."
