"I had a family member live here until she passed away. Her quality of life in the end was amazing. She had so many friends and attended so many activities. The activities were phenomenal especially the Second Wind Dreams that the facility held for the different people. It brings tears to my eyes just thinking of how happy she was. The Shepherd of the Valley staff always made us feel like family and were always kind. You can tell they they are truly their because they care."

"Liberty Arms is a beautiful place. However, they didn't seem to think they can handle my mom's needs. It was kind of they've already made up their mind before they came to see her. And I know they gave her a very good evaluation. The rooms there were kind of odd-shaped with an odd setup. The staff would make sure everybody gets down to the dining room during meal time, and if somebody is missing they'll go look for them. Or if someone would need assistance they'll take them to the dining area. "

"My mom is at Shepherd of the Valley in Howland. She's living in the independent. They're not bad, just normal things. I'm personally a little disappointed with the follow up and the way they checked in with the people that live independently. I think that a phone call once a day isn't enough sometimes, because a person could fall in the middle of the night or in the morning, and they're not checking on them 'til later in the evening. I've never been happy with that process, but my mom won't complain about it. From the apartments and the rooms that I've seen, they're nice. The assisted living apartments are small, little one-bedrooms. Then the rooms upstairs that I was in, where one of my mom's friends was at, are like studios, they are sufficient, and nice. The current staff is all new, so I don't know anything about a lot of them, but the previous staff that I interacted with, all of them have been great. The facility is very nice. They take very good care of it. I'll give it a 4.5 'cause I never give anybody a perfect grading. The staff actually has been really wonderful. "

"Saint John XXIII Home is assisted living and there is a skilled nursing home attached to it. I think that's probably the most ideal at this point for my parents. I like the location of it. The staff was very friendly. I didn't taste any of the food. It was probably their lunchtime there and the people were eating. They had activities for the people. They had a separate area if people didn't want to be in the dining room. There was another area where they could go and have their meal if they wanted more of a private setting. They have chapel services. They have therapy there. It was smaller, so it was more feasible for my parents to get around. it's an older facility, but it's very quaint. It's been around for several years, but it has a lot of updates to it. The atmosphere was welcoming. It seemed calm. The facility seemed clean. There were flowers around. There were different decorations that made it look homey."

"Copeland Oaks would be good for a lot of people but not for my parents. The villas had basements, and we’re trying to get away from stairs. It was quirky and weird, like a little 1950s town that never changed. The staff seemed very nice and helpful. There were apartments as well. It was too remote near nothing and an hour away from me, so it wasn’t for my parents who aren’t familiar with the area, but it seemed OK. They do let you pick your own wall covering and don't have paint, which I thought was weird because wallpaper isn’t “in” anymore. It’s just not for us. "

"I actually visited Bel Air for my mother. I was accommodated very well. They had just opened up so we had to put gowns and masks on, which was fine. They were very helpful and very thorough. They assessed my mom as she walked around so they could decide if she was an appropriate fit there or not. They did a very good job of explaining to her what their care was like. My mom met some of the aides that worked there; they did a super job. It would have been our second choice actually. The inside and outside of the place was very clean and well kept. They had bingo and shopping and they had a bus that could take them places."
