"My wife was at Covington Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation for about a year. I had no problem leaving her there. She was fine. They had a regimen that they followed every day and they watched over her. They worked on her medication. They took care of her recovery. The staff was caring, friendly, and skilled. The food was on time every day, a certain time, but if you wanted something else, you could go and get it. It's a beautiful place and it's clean. They have somebody that could cut and take care of your hair. They had bingo, too, twice a week which is something that you go with people to do things. Then every once in a while, a guest speaker would come and they had an auditorium where you could go and listen to them. They had things to do other than just lying around."

"I have been here for more then 6 years. I am alert and oriented. I can speak for myself when I need any kind of care. I have noticed that some nurses are so intent on their medication routines that they do not pay attention to the resident's comfort level. I have also noticed that some staff members spend a lot of their time chatting to each other about their personal issues. I do not know how these things compare to what is average. "

"We toured Marian Living Center. It was our second choice. It was nice where they were located in the building. They had enough for the assisted living plus. They also had nursing across time limits. A lot of the places only had nursing with the morning and the afternoon shift, and then they would have an aide watching on the night shift. They had a nurse 24/7 on the premises. It was very nicely laid out. There was a lot of community space there. I don't think there's anything to improve on. I believe they have a salon that they could go to, I know that they go on activities, and one of the things that they went on recently was they went on an outdoor concert. There were a lot of different things that they were doing."

"The rooms are undergoing transition to better. The food was good but my mother in law refused to eat...the staff was always busy, but attentive. Our experience with Caprice was wonderful. When we needed them, they were there. They listened, they responded, they helped us and my mother in law any time we needed help. To the office staff, the aids, the nurses, (especially Kelly), the activities directors, the kitchen crew, physical therapy, the cleaning staff, and anyone working in the facility...thank you. You made difficult times better."

"My parents just move in to Shepherd of the Valley. They have beautiful condos, and they provide the support that my parents need to live as independently as possible. They provide all the exterior work on the house. They do the maintenance and the repairs inside. They provide security, and they are all wheelchair accessible. The rooms are pretty, big and have a lot of storage. It provides a washer and dryer. The rooms are all air-conditioned, and my parents have a screened in back porch. "

"My mother is at Auburn Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation. She has been there for two months now. It's a smaller facility. They have good nurses there, and the physical therapy is working fine for her because she has gained some strength back and she can do different things. I'm not there with my mother all the time, but regarding activities, I know she has her therapy every morning and they do bingo a couple of times a week. I have been there with her on a few meals, and their food looks like a balanced meal. They have a therapy room and a salon, other than that, I have not asked what's available there."

"My mom's a resident of Briarfield Place. It's a new facility, I think it's only been open for one year. It's very clean. I was there maybe two full days and a half. People were coming in to do some cleaning, her eye drops, and medication, and she needed assistance toileting and showering. The people were very nice. She had a bed and two chairs in her room, a walk-in shower, and the toilet was set up with rails and grab bars on the side and everything. It was very nice. For the most part, I would say the staff were good. Unfortunately, two times, she had to have a boot on because she had fractured her fibula, and they put it on the wrong foot. We did bring it to their attention, and it has not happened since. I eat off her plate a little bit and the food was very tasty. They had a pretty good variety of food. She was asked if there is anything that she doesn't like. She doesn't eat red meat and she doesn't eat mushrooms, so they always had that little note on her tray to ensure that she did not get what she was not going to eat."

"Woodlands was a beautiful facility. The staff was nice. Like all assisted livings, the rooms were small. However, they had a beautiful dining room that was restaurant style. The general atmosphere of the place was very nice and very friendly. They had a tour service. They had some singers, dancers came in, and they had bingo. "

"Masternick Memorial Helath Care Center was fairly new and really very nice too. It was a beautifully decorated and also village type place like the other place was, but it was very clean, very bright, and cheerful. It wasn't dark or dirty or smelly, and it was just really very beautiful. Like I said, the room was very clean, very bright, and sunny; the walls were painted yellow, and it was just very cheerful. "

"Valley Oaks Care Center is excellent. It's very clean and there was no smell when you walk in any time. The service is tremendous. My brother is being taken care of very well and we're just very pleased. They are always pleasant and very willing to help and do whatever needs to be done to make the residents feel comfortable. My brother is extremely picky though and he often does not get the food that he wants to eat. There are various activities, but he does not partake in them because he's not able to get out of bed, so he prefers not to go to anything. There are just various things that are not offered. They do not have a phone in the room and they have very limited television stations."

"Greenbriar Nursing home is an exceptional nursing home. I have visited the nursing home numerous times for activities and family members. The staff has always been very polite and courteous. Various programs are offered to the residents throughout the day. The nursing home has volunteers that come often to work or talk with residents. The nursing staff offered great care, and helped with all of our questions and concerns. The nursing home worked with local elementary schools to bring in children to spend time with the residents. During the holidays children would come in to sing, decorate, or just spend time with residents. It really helped bring out the holiday spirit in everyone. Greenbriar is also located in a great area. It is easily accessible, and in a safe area. The facilities are up to date, and renovations are made when needed. The residents seem to be cheerful and happy with the services provided. "

"This place is THE BEST rehab around. My 96 year old mother fell and fractured her pelvis and basically could not move. The fantastic care and great therapists there got her up and walking in 3 weeks. Between the great nursing staff and therapists both physical and occupational they did an outstanding job. They all worked as a team and treated my mother like family. Any questions I would ask they were always there to answer and never minded taking the time to make sure we understood everything. "My mother is a life-long resident of Youngstown, Ohio. She is quite sharp mentally but has become frail over the past several years due to health issues commonly associated with advancing age. My mother came to need nursing care and assistance with independent living skills so she entered Shepherd of the Valley, Boardman, in 2013. It has been a very positive experience for both of us. When you walk into Shepherd of the Valley, Boardman, you don’t see a fancy chandelier and a baby grand piano in the lobby. The facility is clean but quite modest in its design and décor. During my initial visit, the staff noted that they focus their resources on patient care not fancy furnishings, and I believe this is true. At Shepherd of the Valley, Boardman they make sure each resident has a consistent group of caregivers and nurses that work with them daily. Consequently, when caregivers see the same residents each day, they are able to observe subtle changes in their health status and start treatment early before illnesses get a strong foothold. For example, my mother’s nurse called and said my mother seemed tired that particular day, her oxygen levels were low and further testing was ordered. Results indicated pneumonia in the very early stages. My mother was quickly treated such that the pneumonia had little effect on the quality of her life. I have been impressed on several occasions by this same pattern: subtle clinical observation based on patient familiarity, followed by testing and quick treatment. I believe my mother is getting excellent care at Shepherd of the Valley, Boardman and I appreciate that members of the nursing staff call anytime there is a change in my mother’s health status and whenever there is a change in her care plan. I am fortunate that my mother still has good communications skills and is very aware of her surroundings. She can very clearly relate to me “how well things are going.” When I call or visit my mother, she consistently says about Shepherd of the Valley, Boardman, “This is a really good place. You know I’d tell you if it weren't. They treat me very well here. Everyone is so nice. I have never heard an unkind word spoken by the staff. This is the place I want to be if I can’t be at home.” I feel very fortunate my mother is a resident of Shepherd of the Valley, Boardman and that she feels content there. I certainly would recommend it to anyone searching for this level of care for a loved one. "
