"I visited King City Senior Village. I like the atmosphere. It was welcoming. The staff was very helpful. The food was very good. The room size is average. The facility was very clean. The dining area was very open and welcoming."

"We found Solista Salem by Cogir. It has all the amenities that we need, and it's cheaper than that other place where we were. We moved in last week. It's a fantastic place to be. We're independent living right now, but they have it set up so that if I need help to get my husband off the floor and stuff like that, they will come and help us. We have three meals a day. It's a much bigger place than the other one. The staff is very helpful. They're very senior-oriented. They have all kinds of things going on for the seniors. It's such a nice place. We have seen deer and squirrels. They say around Thanksgiving, there's a turkey that's wandering around here. It's closer to the hospitals, to the doctors, and everything. The staff members are really good and friendly. I dealt with the maintenance man a couple of times because I couldn't get the dishwasher going. He came right up, fixed it, and got it all going and everything for me, so that's nice. The housekeeper is Carly, and she is great, too. It's very clean. It's got a nice, clean dining room. We haven't gotten up there yet to eat, but of all the ones I looked at, this is the best. They have sock hops, bingo, and all kinds of activities going on. They have a little garden that people can work in. It's $2000 cheaper than the other place. It's in our budget, so it makes it very nice."

"I'm in Holiday Hidden Lakes. It's so beautiful here. I feel like it's the best thing that ever happened to me. I get along great with the staff. My apartment has a view of the lake. It's a one-bedroom with a big living room. They provide three meals a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have wonderful activities. They have beanbag baseball, ice cream social, sing-along, and an exercise program every morning. All activities are held in the activity room, even the resident meetings. Everybody here, including the staff, are all very nice. The food is great. Value for money is good."

"My dad moved into Solista Milwaukie by Cogir. I chose it because it mainly had to do with proximity to where I live. My wife and mother-in-law had toured this place, and out of all the places they toured, they said this one felt the best. That was one of the main reasons why I picked it. His apartment is very clean, newly renovated, and nice. The staff is friendly, nice, and very helpful. I have tried the meal, and it's very good. They did a movie night on Friday, but my dad didn't go to it, and that's the only thing I'm familiar with. He's only been here since the first."

"I like Somerset Lodge. Everybody that I talked to said it's like family. They invited me to lunch, and lunch was good. The people were wonderful. Everybody was wonderful. The person that took me around was great. She spent a lot of time with me. It's a beautiful location. They have big green areas for walking. It is very high on my list, but I'm not sure if I can afford it in a year. Maybe it will be a little too expensive for me. The food was very good. I was sitting with three very nice ladies. This lady who took me around gave me lots of time, and she was a star. They have just decorated for Christmas. The residents decorated it and they did an unbelievable job."

"I've known Creekside Village Retirement for a long time. I like the manager and I like the room. There's a garden space, too. I've always liked the community and its location. There are lots of activities. I'm looking forward to the exercise classes. I'm sure there are nicer facilities there, but the others cost a whole lot more money, too, while this one is affordable for us."

"We went to Glenmoore Gracious Retirement Living. They have two-bedroom, two-bathroom units, but none are available at this time. They had a very nice dining room. The building and its surroundings were very nice. We had lunch there, which was pretty good. The staff seemed pretty good, too."

"I toured MorningStar of Hillsboro. The facility is way too big. It looks like you're in a hotel, which is nice, and I've toured the apartments. They're nice and bright, and that's what I'm looking for. The staff member who helped with the tour was a sweetie and knowledgeable. They've got everything going on in there. They play card games, go on tours as far as getting out of Morningstar, and go on shopping trips. It's more of a fit for me. The view was beautiful. The facility was clean and solid; however, the apartments are a little small for me."

"I just moved here to Heron Pointe. I like the little cottage that I am in. I got my own kitchen, two bedrooms, a fridge, dishwasher, microwave, and everything. You can get three meals a day and house cleaning twice a week. Everything you want is here. We do barbecues, bingos, and quite a few activities. The food is good. The staff are good people. They do what they need to do."

"My sister and her spouse moved to Elms Retirement Living Center in Forest Grove. I think they chose it because my sister's daughters are all within about a 10-minute drive. I was a little disappointed in what they chose because there's no assisted living there. If they start needing care, they have to pay for somebody privately to come in since it's just a retirement center. I personally think they should have gotten a place that had some level of assistance. Other than that, it's a very nice facility. They also have good food. I've eaten there several times, primarily for dinner. They have a great salad bar, and the waitress will come and ask you if you want small, medium, or large portions of the different things that they're serving. I don't really see the staff that much, but the ones that I do see are very polite and very nice. It seems like the staff know the names of the residents, too. It seems they're connected to them, not just bodies in a room. They have a nice library, and they have a kind of loft space where they have what they call the Fireside Chat. I think it's every Monday night where people congregate, and sometimes they'll have guest speakers. Otherwise, one of the members will tell a story from their past or something. It's really very pleasant. I'm not there during the day, but I know that they have exercise classes every day. They also have a bus where they'll have some place planned, at least once a week, to take people out."

"I toured Calaroga Terrace, and I knew immediately it was not the right place for me. The person who took me around was the most vivacious and the most positive person. Debbie was wonderful. I think she was the marketing manager or the sales manager. She really was a dynamite person, but the place wasn't right for me. The sizes of the rooms were OK, but they did not have stoves. While I am 83, I still love to cook. They provide three meals a day, seven days a week. The place is older. It's a renovated hotel, but it looks tired. I wouldn't fit in there. It's the only high-rise that I toured. I noticed that there were birds that were using the windows on the ninth floor, and I wondered how often the windows got cleaned. Inside, the cleanliness was fine though. They had two libraries, a lounge on each floor, and a craft room. They had the typical amenities that almost all of these had."

"Mom is at MorningStar at Laurelhurst. It is very clean. Most of the caregivers are very caring and loving. They enjoy what they do and care for the residents. There were a few issues at the beginning, but things are better now. No place is perfect. I was given a couple of opportunities to have a meal there, and the food is always very fresh because the memory care patients are always served first. It's nutritious and they have a really good chef. There's a good variety. There are a lot of coloring activities (they have adult coloring books). They also play music and then have movies after dinner. They have other activities that I noticed on the board, like going for a walk and trivia things, but Mom's not interested in any of that stuff. She's very picky. She's always just sitting there, totally bored."

"I like that Cascade Park Retirement Community is all-inclusive. Your food is supplied and there are people there that check on you, just to keep track. If you're going to go away overnight, you have to sign, and that kind of stuff. I ate there and what I had for lunch was a stuffed tomato, which was stuffed with egg salad. I also had cottage cheese, a pineapple side, and soup. I didn't have dessert, because I was already full. They have a menu as well as two specials. So, if you want a hotdog, you could always have a hotdog, but if you want a real meal, they have real meals. And then if you're sick, they will bring it to you. I've been there a couple of times, because I have a friend that lives there. Then two weeks ago, I went in and signed the papers. The facility is really good and nice and I've been telling everybody about it. They have a parking lot, so if you have a car like I do, they have that. It's not going to be exactly next to my place, I have to walk, but at least I have the car if I want to go out. Then they have a bus for trips and stuff like that."
