"It had a very homey type of living situation. We stayed for lunch, and the food was extremely very good. The size of the studio was quite small, but the one-bedroom size would be very good for me. They had a place next door where the residents could transfer to assisted living."

"I liked King City Senior Village a lot. They were friendly and helpful and the facility was very clean and bright. The food was excellent and it was just a great place. The grounds were very nice and they have nice activities. I happened to go back in when they were having a happy hour. So, they invited us to have happy hour and that was nice. We had lunch there and I loved it, but there was not very much of it, as far as the amount. Still, I was very impressed with the place."

"It is a very good fit for my mother. The food is great. We just had a little bit of difficulty with the care and socializing at first, but now that she's getting acquainted, we've made it perfectly clear that we didn't want her sitting in her room all the time. They would bring her food to her and we didn't like that. It's a beautiful and clean place. They have craft, exercises, and outings. I'm really impressed with how they decorate for the holidays and how they put flowers and tablecloths on the table and they have beautiful arrangements in the entryway. I love their 50s room where you can have gatherings with other family members. The servers work hard and make sure that everything is taken care of."

"We toured for my grandfather and the food was good. It was clean, beautiful, and was a nice place. I liked the rooms very much. They had a full-sized kitchen and that was nice. It has full-size fridge, too. That was what my mom liked about it. She liked the room there more than the room in the other place."

"It's like a family here. Everybody talks to everybody and people are so friendly. The staff is very helpful and the grounds are keep beautiful. When you have a problem, there is always someone to help you. Really feels like home."

"We ended up putting my mother-in-law at Somerset Lodge Gracious Retirement Living. It is very pretty. The land that it is on is very pretty, and you can see Mount Hood from there. The facility itself is very clean. It is brand new and the rooms are good size. I really like the fact that there are two sets of managers - two sets of husband and wife. They live in the building, so there is always somebody there. They’re really nice. The dining room is set up beautiful. They have fresh baked bread and cookies everyday. They have cookies and coffee out everyday. That’s really nice. The atmosphere is very nice. They have activities too. The only suggestion would be, when someone new comes in, it would be nice if they have a service where the some of the residents or maybe one of the managers would go up and invite them down at dinner or lunch and sit with them. It has been a little hard of an adjustment for my mother-in-law; she doesn’t feel comfortable just walking upto a table and sitting down for a meal. "

"My mom is in Creekside Village and it's very good. They have a lot of activities and the food is really good. They have a fairly large number of communities and my mom is into playing a lot of games like Poker and Bridge. There's always something going on that my mom can do."

"I'm extremely happy to be here and appreciate everything they offer for us to get out and do. The staff is very courteous and don't put themselves above me. I like the fact they are close to the bus lines and the Max. Very convenient location."

"I’m on a waiting list at Glenmoore Gracious Retirement Living. I went up there and had lunch. I would say it was good restaurant food. There were 4 or 5 selections. It was very homey, and the people I sat with at the table were very pleasant. It is brand new. It has only been open now for less than 2 years. It’s in a fairly nice residential area. Over and all, this is the one I’ve selected. Our neighbor has been there for over a year, and she talks very highly of it. It’s near -- about a mile and a half away from where I’m living now. It’s in my neighborhood, so I know all the places around there. There are restaurants that I eat within a mile up there. Some of them are even right across the street. Kaiser Sunnyside hospital is less than a mile away, and that’s my hospital, so it’s very convenient. The 1-bedroom units have balconies or patios. They have separate bedrooms, walk-in showers, and little kitchens. They had a full size refrigerator, no ovens, but a hot plate. When somebody moves out, you have to wait 2 weeks before anybody else can move in because they’ll completely redo the whole thing. They’ll replace the carpet, and they’ll repaint everything. "

"I will be moving into MorningStar of Hillsboro. I like the floor plan, the staff's attitudes, the location, the amenities, and the value I feel I'm getting for my money. I have a full kitchen, a washer and disposal, and laundry. One of the things I like about the floor plan is that even though it's a one-bedroom, it's laid out well. There's a connection between the bedroom and the bathroom, so I don't have to go through the living room and kitchen to get there. Another aspect I like is that it's not a large corporation. If a manager, chef, or someone else sees the need for a change or an addition to the community, they do not have to go through layers and layers of management to get an answer as to whether or not they can make that change. I dealt with two specific ladies, and both of them were very knowledgeable about the community, how it's organized, and what my options were. The food is provided, and an excellent restaurant-style menu that includes weekly specials, especially recommended by residents. Another aspect of MorningStar that I like is the security. They have a way of checking on me that isn't obtrusive, to make sure I'm okay and don't need any help."

"We toured Heron Pointe Senior Living. We liked everything about it, except that we couldn't afford it right away. They had a two-bedroom, two-bathroom ready for us to move into, but we couldn't swing the payment right then, and I did not want to go into one because it was for both of us. The facility was very nice and clean. We were going to get a cottage that was outside, and we liked it. It was in a small town, and we're used to small towns, so we liked that part too. The person who assisted us has called us once a year since we went in there to see if we were ready to go in or if they could help us."

"I chose Elms Retirement Living Center for my mom. Upon walking in, I felt like they were welcoming us and not judging. It's privately owned, so it doesn't have that corporate feel. For them, everybody is an individual and unique, so they assess and listen to what you have to say. Their food is awesome, too. Everyone is amazing, especially the worker guys. My mom likes hanging pictures and they do all of that for you because they want the responsibility, and they're very, very patient and wonderful. They have a pretty chock-full calendar every month that they publish. They have soda nights or ice cream nights. They have art classes, religious classes, and music appreciation. They have a lot of indoor activities. The only thing I can say about their external activities is you can't go on them if you have a walker or even a fold-up walker. Mom has a 1-bedroom apartment and it comes with a refrigerator, a 4-burner stovetop, and a little pantry off the kitchen. It has built-in shelves as well as a long hanging area rack. Every room has a balcony. They're redoing the balconies right now, and they're doing it in such a manner that it doesn't disrupt daily life for anybody. They have an air conditioning unit and everything else is free. They have cable TV, but if you want Internet, you do have to get your own Internet."

"A prime consideration in choosing Senior Independent Living at Calaroga Terrace was its central location and easy access to Portland's great Public Transit System(Street Car, MAX train and Bus).But more importantly I made the choice because of Calaroga's reputation of providing a supportive community environment including a dedicated and professional staff. Oh yes, and I do enjoy a panoramic view of the city from my apartment and balcony. Duane"

"Mom is at MorningStar at Laurelhurst. It is very clean. Most of the caregivers are very caring and loving. They enjoy what they do and care for the residents. There were a few issues at the beginning, but things are better now. No place is perfect. I was given a couple of opportunities to have a meal there, and the food is always very fresh because the memory care patients are always served first. It's nutritious and they have a really good chef. There's a good variety. There are a lot of coloring activities (they have adult coloring books). They also play music and then have movies after dinner. They have other activities that I noticed on the board, like going for a walk and trivia things, but Mom's not interested in any of that stuff. She's very picky. She's always just sitting there, totally bored."
