"We moved into Heatherwood Senior Living. We really like it. They have nice people and good food, and it's in beautiful condition. The maid service is great. We're totally happy with it. The activities are good. My husband plays bingo, and right now he's down playing some kind of baseball game. They have card games and musicians come in once a week. They have a variety of activities. They have a bus that takes people places, but I still drive. The staff is wonderful. I have nothing whatsoever negative to say about any of the staff. It's great. There is a lot of variety in their food, and that's a good thing. You always have a lot of choices. We have a one-bedroom and it's fine. It's what we expected. It has a living room, a bedroom, and a bathroom. We have laundry available free. My husband had his hair cut and his beard trimmed. They have an exercise room, a theater-type room, a puzzle room, and a library upstairs. It's in great shape. They just remodeled it and it's beautiful. Compared to the apartment we lived in previously, this is fantastic."

"I really liked Chateau de Boise. I think my brother would really like it. It's not institutionalized looking. It's a very inviting place. Everyone there was really kind. A little girl came and greeted me before we got in. It was a nice, inviting, and warm place. The rooms were nice. The staff member during the tour was great. She was very helpful and she was the assistant (not the head person). Everyone was happy. We were really pleased. The only issue we have is trying to find somebody to give my brother the medication. As you walk in, the dining area is there. They have three meals a day. Everyone was eating. There are little tables, and they wait on each table. It's kind of like a restaurant. They had decks and outdoor areas. It was in a nice, quiet neighborhood. I was pleased. There's a volunteer who comes and they play games and cards. They like to tie people in with other people that have similar interests. It just seemed like they really wanted the people to be happy."

"I like the staff at Truewood by Merrill, Boise. The building is clean and well-kept. I don't have any negatives to say. The staff members are very good to my mother. The building's structure is in good shape. They have bingo and happy hour where people from the community come in and play live music. My mother's room is a studio and it's fine. It's very friendly."

"We toured Brookdale Boise Parkcenter Independent Living and the experience was very good. We're very impressed, the staff was very friendly, very efficient, and thorough. I liked the place. We looked at a cottage, it was very nice, and it was bigger than I expected. I believe it will accommodate our furniture and it's very comfortable. The staff was very helpful and very attentive, they knew what they were doing. We were able to have dinner there, and we also participated in one of their happy hours. Everyone was extremely friendly, so we felt very comfortable and welcome. The food was very good, and they have quite a variety of food. The facility was very clean and well-maintained, it was nice. There was no water damage anywhere, there was no dirt, and it was very clean."

"My father has moved into MorningStar of Boise. It's clean and they're friendly, and they have lots of amenities. The staff has been very nice, helpful, and eager to help. The activities seem great. He has a living room and a bedroom. It's everything he needs, it's clean and updated, and he has a full-sized fridge, which is nice."

"I toured Salmon Creek. What I liked best was inside the facility. They have a couple of chefs in the kitchen, and the meals are wonderful. They were a little pricey. It's like $2,500 for a studio, and they don't have furnishings, but they provide washers and dryers for you to use. They're very accommodating. I got to see one of the vacant bedrooms, and the staff seemed very attentive. I prefer to have a one-bedroom, but the studios are kind of small. Everything was very clean. I would prefer to have a one-bedroom, but I probably can't afford it."

"Revel Eagle is beautiful. It's fairly new. The common area is beautiful. They have a little cafe inside if you want to get snacks or drinks. Libraries, computers. People can use the exercise room. Pretty much all the things that they offer that you would want. They have a theater. The only negative thing I would say about it is that we only looked at two units because that's all they had available for us to look at, and they were very small. So that was kind of a turnoff for me because I want to be able to take some of my favorite pieces of furniture, stuff like that. So they just didn't have the room. But the other thing I liked about it is, and this is a thing that most of the older retirement homes do not do it this way, most of them you pay for your meals within your rent, and so you get three meals a day and you have to pay for those whether you're there eating or not. And my husband and I travel, and we have a lot of family here in Boise that we go to their homes for dinner. And I don't want to have to be paying for meals that I'm not eating. It also is located near the Boise River, which is a very pretty river, and it has a greenbelt, and walking paths along the river that you can get to very easily from the buildings. It's just a very short walk to the green belt too so you can go on walks along the river. So that's another nice feature of it. The other feature is it's very close to two very nice restaurants. You could walk to them. They also have a van, and I see the van a lot when I go to one of our main chain grocery stores. And they have a van that takes the people that live there to the grocery store. So if you don't drive and you don't have a car, the van will take you anywhere. There are also movie theaters nearby, lots of restaurants, and grocery shopping. I would highly recommend it."

"I toured. They have a library, an exercise room with some guidance from exercise directors, they have equipment there for exercising, a beauty shop, a greenhouse on the premises, which I was very interested in, card games, and puzzle tables on every floor. Anybody can put a puzzle up if they wish to. The room has a kitchen area, whether you get a one-bedroom or a two-bedroom. I haven't decided on that yet, but there was plenty of room for one or even two people. What I was excited about was the outdoor little patio area where you could go outside and have a table and sit and eat if you want to, or just have a cup of coffee, and it's screened as well so that you can leave a door open and get fresh air in, even if you stayed in your own house or apartment."

"Garden Plaza of Valley View was very clean. It was a fine upscale location. You have a kitchenette, but the kitchenette is not a hot plate, but there's a microwave and a refrigerator. The unit we looked at was a one-bedroom with a sitting room adjacent to it, and what we're looking for my parents, is a little more room. The staff who gave the tour was very knowledgeable. They have a bakery there and we got a choice of what we want at the bakery, which was excellent. There's a very big outdoor space with a horseshoe pit or a barbecue that could be used by families that come in. It's a very well-laid out location."

"Grace Assisted Living at Englefield Green was the first one I went to. The staff toured us and everything. When he was asking questions about this 88-year-old gentleman I'm trying to get into senior living, that's when he found out that he didn't have any rooms from a male. He only has a female room. The only way that he would have a room for a male was if two women left at the same time because there's two women in per a room. Other than that, everything was beautiful there. It was really nice. It was comfortable to sit there, relax, and all that. I went to the memory care, but this gentleman can't go there. They couldn't take him there. Everybody was very nice and friendly. They invited us to sit down and have coffee while we waited for the director. It was really nice. They were on time; they weren't late. Everybody seemed pleasant. I did not their food, but it really looked good. It was very tempting. They had an elegant dining room, and it was set up really nice."

"I've been to Parkview Apartments because I have a friend there. What I liked the most was the awesome view from many of the apartments. It overlooked a beautiful park, you can also see the mountain in one direction, and the rooms were large. I understand that most of the apartments have been renovated over the years. Her second apartment wasn't as nice as the first, but the kitchen in the first one had been totally redone with granite countertop and nice cabinets. What I don't care for is the heating doesn't seem to work very well. My friend's room was always cold in the winter, and part of that could be due to larger rooms than average. Hers was a 3-bedroom, 2-bath, but I was looking for just 1, or 2 bedrooms at the most. She really liked it there."

"My experience with Northgate Senior Village has been wonderful. They've been very friendly and helpful, and they made my mom and dad feel very welcome. They have a two-bedroom apartment with a small kitchen and a really large living room and a back patio. There's a clubhouse, and there are meals that are brought in every day. When I was there moving my parents, they were painting birdhouses. They have a pool table, an exercise area, and a really good library. "

"We toured Touchmark at Meadow Lake Village, and it's beautiful beyond my expectations. It had the most amenities and very gracious people. We had a beautiful experience. The staff was precious. All of them were so helpful. We were vacillating between which dessert we liked, and the waitress made us a little go-pack of six cookies. She packed them up so cutely and brought them to us. Everyone was so friendly, and they all knew everybody's names. The room sizes are perfect. We had options and were very impressed. They had a bistro. They have a lake right there, and their nice big bus was sitting out front to take us on little trips. There were schedules and agendas. You could tell they had lots going on. They have a big TV room, and it's just beautiful."

"I was so impressed with Grace Assisted Living at State Street. The building was just beautiful, everywhere you looked. It seemed so lively. When we arrived, the exercise class had just finished and people were milling around exiting that big room. They were meeting in little places. You could tell they were going to wait then for lunch. There was a group of four at this table and they were all close and visiting and laughing. I think there were a lot of independent living people there also. It was nice. We didn't get to see an actual room. They were occupied, but they did show us different floor plans and walked us to see different parts of the building itself. We had a great time. The staff was great. She was very friendly. She knew people by name and greeted people. Everything was exceptionally clean. It was just wonderful."

"My experience with Affinity at Boise has been great. They have a wonderful maintenance group that takes care of the halls, the lights, and the grounds. They're very conscientious about everything and are acceptable to all of the people who live here. Including putting your car back away from the curb, so those of us who have to have walkers or wheelchairs can go on the sidewalk without interference from car bumpers. The staff is always helpful. Anything that you need, somebody is there to take care of it. They have little slips that you fill out. If you want the water faucet in your shower to be changed, they'll be right there to do it. You just fill out your slip. If there's anything that you need to have taken care of, like you've got backup water or whatever, somebody is there the very same day that you say anything about it. I have a one-bedroom apartment with a bathroom, washer dryer, and shower. When you walk in the door from the hallway, you're into a vinyl flooring with the kitchen and moving island that has drawers and cabinets in it that you pull up your stools and sit on. There's plenty of pantry space and cupboard space. There's only one closet, but that's OK. I needed to get rid of some stuff anyway. It's got a front room and a little deck (a metal deck). My unit faces south and so I get the sunshine all day long. I have air conditioning in the front room. In the bedroom, there is only a fan in the ceiling, but that's plenty. My apartment is maybe 500 square feet. You have a refrigerator, a stove, a dishwasher, and a microwave. So, you fix your own food. They have a lot of activities. They have a regular schedule for game nights, they have a hot tub, a swimming pool, a workout room, and a community bar area with the patio out off of the back so that you can either be indoors or outdoors. When people go away or are moving or something, they have a big gathering for everybody to come and wish them a Bon voyage. It's a big U-shaped building. I don't know how many units there are, but there are a lot. So, there's access to both stairs as well as the elevators. You have a garbage disposal on each floor, and then you have the garbage recycle downstairs where you separate everything so that you're conscientious about our environment. We have separate places to park outside or garages if you so choose to have a pay-for garage. They are very accommodating. They also have book clubs, game groups, and crafts rooms. The library is wonderfully stocked and you can go pick out any book you want. It's huge. Every floor has one library with couches and chairs, and they have a deck out upstairs on the top floor that you can go out and watch the skyline for 4th of July activities or whatever. For the price, they have all kinds of programs available where you can go through government subsidies."
