The staff at Green Oaks Senior Living is wonderful. It's very clean because it's relatively new. The meals are fantastic and there are lots of different programs and things you can attend to. They have Bible study, book club, knitting, and arts and crafts. My apartment is very nice. It has its own heating and cooling. I wish we had more outlets though. Once a week they have light housekeeping. They have a library.

Mom lived in Green Oaks Senior Living under a year because she was so unhappy with it right away. It was horrible. The apartments themselves were wonderful. They're large. The salesperson offered her a really good deal for her to move, which enticed her, but when she got there, everything was different than she was told. For one thing, the entertainment was not like what they said. My mom made bead necklaces at the other place, and she asked the salesperson if they do anything like that at Green Oaks. The salesperson said, "Oh sure. All you have to do is ask the activities person and she will help you, so that we can make you happy." After my mom moved in, she told her, "I'm sorry, but that's not in our budget." The other thing is, they played bingo. The person that was head of the activities was very religious, so she would not let anybody play bingo for money. They played bingo for candy. They did it once or twice a week. Most of the activities there were very boring to my mom. Since they didn't do beading or crafts that she liked, she said, "Can we play another day of bingo?" The activities person said, "I'm sorry, but that's not in our budget either." My mom was like, "You've got to be kidding. You can't bring in a bag of candy so that we can play?" The activities person said, "If you can find somebody to do the calling and everything, well then you can do it." I called the director and I told her how upset my mom was, and that my mom was thinking of moving because for one thing, the activities were bad. The other thing is, is they kept raising my mom's rent once she moved in. They told me it would never be raised over 10% and that they hadn't raised the rent in years, and so that it was nothing to worry about. After she got in there, I think they raised the rent on her twice. We were worried that they were going to keep raising it. They wanted her to move in real bad. They had lost a lot of their residents, probably because of all the problems they had with the activities and the food. I told the director my feelings about everything and she went and talked to the activities person after I asked her not to say my name, because I didn't want them to pick on my mom or whatever. She went right to the activities person and told her that I called in and I was upset, and then they went to my mom's apartment to talk to my mom about everything. My mom was real upset about it, because the activities person was very rude to her as it was, and so she thought this is going to make it even worse. My mom had her friends move there, so she was able to see them. They had a beautiful place there because they had some water and then they had these things in the center that would spurt out water. It was a beautiful community. The apartments were real nice. They did charge for every little thing that you wanted to have done. My mom needed the internet hooked up and she asked them to mount her TV on the wall and the maintenance guy was very rude to her. He goes, "I don't think you want me to do that because they're gonna charge you $40 an hour. If I have to run for an emergency, you're still going to be charged while I'm gone." It was like he was trying to get out of everything, so he didn't have to do any work. Mom had her grandson come over and put the TV on the wall and hook up her internet and everything. It was terrible that way. They had a nice courtyard there. They didn't have the lobby where everybody sat and greeted each other or went there to talk and visit. My mom said the food was never hot and they would always forget something, like if she had a hamburger, they'd forget the ketchup. They'd say, "OK, we'll go get it." They would never come back with it. She'd sit there and wait and wait. She was real upset. They had good food, but it was never hot.

I took a tour of Green Oaks Senior Living, and it was a beautiful facility. I spent more than a couple hours there. I just talked to the lady again yesterday because she called me. I would rate it very highly, except the fact that they could not guarantee me a price. The prices depend upon their evaluation of the resident, and that was hard. I think my wife would probably end up being evaluated as having to pay the most. They were going to raise the monthly rates to $1,300 in one year. The price was not acceptable to us, but it's a great place. I'd rate it pretty high, but the price was just too high. There used to be a very large nursery that was torn down and this place was built. It has all of these trees all over the place and a lake in the back. It is relatively new too, so it's a beautiful facility.

While the apartments are lovely and the people living in them are great, Green Oaks does not seem to be living up to their promises. The dining room is alway understaffed. Often staff members are pulled in from other places to fill in from assisted living, front desk, maintenance, and even the chef. Even though food is supposed to be served restaurant style, for at least the last two weeks there has only been a buffet - which is particularly challenging for residents with mobility issues. My parent says they have the same offerings for lunch and dinner with the scheduled dinner time to rotate residents through. Even with this, I hear sometimes there are no plates or silverware and very little staff to even man the buffet. Previous to the buffets, I have dined with my mother on at least five occasions. Generally the service is slow and erratic, and the plates are rarely cleared or spots at tables turned over to allow for community seating. Clearly the work environment is not a good one, be it lack of training, poor pay, no benefits, possibly difficult chef, terrible shift schedules, or lack of leadership. Probably all of the above. There must be a reason why they are unable to fine and maintain a quality staff. The bistro that was advertised as a second option or alternative to the main dining room where residents could get a soup, sandwich, snack, or coffee at anytime, never seems to be stocked with much of anything, maybe a couple bananas or 3 or 4 hard boiled eggs. Even though when my mom toured another Spectrum facility the bistro was staffed and had a chilled case with sandwiches, salads, yogurt, chip, snacks, and a pot of hot soup. As this facility was recently built and just opened in August of 2017, I have suspended judgment until they were up and fully running with most residents moved in, hoping that the food service would improve, but if anything it has only declined. All of this is especially disconcerting for residents who are paying a lot for a place that offers taking this full meal plan as the only option. I do feel like it's been going on long enough that reparations should be made for services not rendered. There is crazy high staff turn over

I was one of the first to move into Green Oaks, and I have not for a moment regretted my decision. The staff is fantastic; they know everyone by name! The facility is beautiful with lots of public spaces. One can be as social or unsocial as one wishes. All in all, this is a great retirement home.

The food is extra ordinary. In senior living that is the first thing you are going hear about, is the food. You are also eat as much as you want, where can you do that? The cleanliness is impeccable. The mixture of people, they come from near and far, so their is opportunity for learning just from conversation from the other residents. I think the personnel is helpful and do what they can to make this as much as my home as possible. There is an art to running a place like this and the staff here are artists. I think you will be impressed with what you see.
