I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My son has been a resident at MADO Healthcare Douglas Park, formerly Sacred Heart Nursing Home. If a negative rating was possible, that is what I would rate them. After a conversation that went nowhere with the Director, Mardy, I tried talking with nurses and social workers about issues I was having with the facility. With no changes, I called the MADO Healthcare offices to speak with them. They took a message and forwarded it instead to Mardy. I did not return her call as I wanted to go to the top. Fast forward to this past Monday. I received a call in the evening from one of the nurses. She told me my son had taken 1 or 2 more pills than he should have because he stole the keys from a desk and got into the meds closet, and was being transported to the hospital. It seemed odd that he would be an route to the hospital for one or two extra pills. The nurse told me she would call me back if he was to be admitted, but that he was ok and looked fine. I didn't hear back, so contacted the hospital directly. They had been told by the EMT's that the staff told them that the keys were on a desk and that staff member went to the bathroom which is when my son gained access to the meds. The ER nurse transferred me to the Crisis team. She stated that upon arrival to the ER, they immediately saw a lot of red flags. The primary one being that my son took the pills at 8am, and wasn't transported to the ER until 7:40pm, and that labs show he ingested much more than 1 or 2 extra pills. My son was taken to the telemetry unit - critical care unit with one on one monitoring 24/7. He also had an IV placed with a bag dripping into it. When I was able to see him and speak to him, he stated that he didn't take keys, that there are no keys, that there is a passcode, and that it had been given to him. He said 'this is the closest I've come.' He said he was sweaty, dizzy, had a headache, felt like his body weighed 10 tons because he couldn't move, and that he was was in and out of consciousness when the EMT's arrived. This morning, 52 hours after the OD, he was still extremely groggy from the OD. Why an individual who is a resident in a facility would have pass-codes is beyond me. Adding to that, this is a nursing home for the mentally ill. They left my son is this state for almost 12 hours before calling 911. Please help me to shut this facility down, to have hefty fines for violations, and for this to never happen to another family again. Please check the reports from the IL Department of Public Health. I have reported this to them, as well. Share!!! Angie B

    I visited this facility

I was on a hunt for a good assisted living facility for a friend. So I decided to check this place out. My first impression of this place was not good. The vibe of the facility was negative. It was an older facility, not clean at all. As I was receiving my tour, I quickly glanced in the rooms and noticed uncleaned food trays laying around. I wonder if it's like that all the time. In any case, there is no reason for a home to not be clean and sanitary at all times. I cut my tour short and never looked back.
