We toured Hampton Manor of Punta Gorda, and it was a very good experience. It was pristine. The place was new. It just opened in August. The rooms were brand new. Everything was clean and neat. There were not a lot of residents out and about in the facility. It didn't seem overcrowded to me. The staff that I did see working didn't seem overtaxed. The person that showed us around was excellent because we were there with her for probably 3 hours. The staff that we met just for a few seconds and said hi to while passing, all seemed very nice.

Do not be fooled by the new facility and fancy decor. The two most important aspects in a facility -- management and healthcare -- are beyond awful. Administration cares more about profits than patients. Whenever I tried to discuss issues or concerns, the Executive Director was argumentative and dismissive. The nursing staff has very poor policies and procedures which I felt were harmful to my mother's wellbeing. The care staff is indifferent and the facility has a difficult time hiring and retaining them. My 94-year-old Mom was here for under a year and I couldn't get her out of this place soon enough. I tried to give the facility a second chance after the state closed them down for 5 months due to morphine and narcotic misadministration and missing medications. However, the anxiety and unease I felt on a daily basis just were not worth it. Bottom line, this is the last assisted living facility I would entrust with the care of a treasured loved one.
