We decided on The Canopy on Berryhill. I liked the convenience of my home to my mother. They are just a very lovely, friendly community, the admissions has been probably very easy. Amidst many restrictions that they have, I can only visit my mother twice a week for an hour and a half, and I understand that's all Florida government, but that's the hardest thing right now is trying to deal with someone you can't see. Mother needs shoes, Mother needs clothes, I have to go by them, I can't go in to see if they've helped her try them on, or if they fit. I'm on my way right now to Canopy to meet with the physical therapist, speech therapist, and occupational therapist. She seems to like the food, she has a few complaints, but not very often, it's food that she didn't like. They have not done activities yet with my mother, they just got a new activities director, and she started last week.

My mom is at The Canopy on Berryhill. She loves the food, and she loves the employees. They're all really sweet. They treat her like their own momma. They even call me from their cellphones, so I could talk to my momma. Small things like that really means a lot. My momma always looks real nice and pretty, and they keep her clean every time I talk to her. They let me Facetime her because right now the facility is shutdown. I can't go see her, so they let me Facetime her and she looks so nice and pretty and dressed real pretty. She is always smiling and at the moment, she likes it there. She says it's the next best thing to home, and it means a lot. I know they had a luncheon because my father got to come and have lunch with her before they shut back down. It seems like they just sit around, watch TV, and talk. In her studio, she has a sitting area with a couch and a chair. The place is very, very clean.

We were able to place my mom in The Canopy on Berryhill. So far, I don't have anything that I don't like. It's a new facility, so everything works. They have a physical therapy area, they have a physical therapist that would work with her, and that's one of the things that we did like. They have it so that mealtimes are not at specific times, you can go if you're hungry at 11:00 a.m. you can go have a meal, or if you want to wait till 1:00 p.m., you can wait till 1:00 pm. We liked that about it. It's more like a restaurant as far as their eating facility. They do have game time, they have a happy hour, just a time to socialize with various residents to get together. She has met one lady, it's kind of neat, you get to talk and stuff. That helps to settle in and give a good feeling of "I'm not just isolated." We have to get tested when we go in, temperature check, and all that. They did let us come and have a one-on-one personal visit, which all of us appreciate. They have a room set aside for when we come to visit.
