Gold Choice Senior Communities was outstanding, and the best place I found. My mom was in the assisted living. The place was very nice, spa-like, and clean. You'd think you were walking into a Ramada. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and often came in and checked on my mother. They were really great with her. The food looked very appealing and smelled good. If you wanted to participate, there were enough activities to do, like movie nights, card games, bingo, and gardening in the courtyard.

We took a tour of Gold Choice Senior Communities, and they're willing to work with us regarding finances. The cost is good. The young lady during the tour was very friendly and very supportive. However, they try to fit two people in one room, which is the size of a one-bedroom. It looked older inside, and it's not as bright as the others. Everything looked older and dull.

I toured Gold Choice Ormond Beach for my mom. I guess, what I like least is the location. But even though it is in a strip mall, the inside was nice, and the facility seemed nice. The room was small but OK. I just think that every room should have a patio. The only amenities are the rooms with the patios. Plus, I think they offer daily activities, and they also take them out. The facilities are pretty nice, and the only thing I'm giving it a four for instead of five is because it's right behind a strip mall.

Gold Choice wasn't as nice as the other place we visited. It was older, and we weren't impressed with it at all. The residents didn't look as happy either. There weren't as many people on the floor helping or working with them; there were a lot of residents just sitting in wheelchairs on their own. It was kind of sad, and the place was musty. The staff member who accommodated me was nice, knowledgeable, and knew all about the place. She was kind of pushing their specials, like if I take my mother there on that month there would be a lower rate, and I wasn't thrilled about the pushiness. The rooms were OK. It kind of had an old smell. That must be the smell of the whole place and I wasn't impressed. The dining area was kind of old, but it looked OK. I also wasn't impressed with any of the staff members; they were just average.

I didn't like Gold Choice Senior Communities. They didn't seem very attentive to the people, and it felt too restrictive. The accommodations and the physical plan were unpleasant. I didn't see that much interaction among the residents and the staff. Their activities were pretty much just sitting in a circle and passing around a ball. The dining area looked nice. They should have had more positive kinds of interactions and one-on-ones with the residents.

Gold Choice Senior Communities seemed very nice, but we weren't in a financial position to do it. The director was nice. They had a movie going on that afternoon, and everybody was in a central area watching. They provide meals and transportation. There weren't many people living there, and it seemed pretty quiet. We visited the memory care part. They were having a cookout that day.

We visited Gold Choice Senior Communities and the room that they took us to smelled like cigarette smoke, and I didn't like that. Some of the amenities about it didn't suit me right and it's also too far to drive. It was OK, but it wasn't the best. It was nice. I wanted some place where they would watch him, so he wouldn't walk away and leave the premises. The room had two beds, and a little side bathroom, which was shared. It had a little porch that lead out to a courtyard, and it just smelled of cigarette smoke.

I've been very happy with Gold Choice. We chose it because it's close and convenient, so I'm able to visit my wife every single day. I was immediately impressed when I talked to a fellow sitting outside who was very happy there. They have a couple of different wings for assisted living and memory care. She seems to be adjusting to it very well. The staff is quite helpful and friendly. The waiting area is bright, clean, and cheery. The place seems to be very well kept and very clean. They always go into the patients' rooms and clean up and really seem to care. I'm very happy that I put her there. They seem totally equipped to take care of her. They have nurses on-staff at all times and a doctor that visits her every other week. It seems to be working out well so far. The food is institutional but good and fresh. They cook it all and don't open up cans. Activities are a little lacking, which I understand because you can't have memory care people working on gym equipment.

My husband and I have toured Gold Choice twice, once him and I and then with his mother. Very clean, very friendly. It has a hotel feeling (like a vacation resort). Mother is excited about moving in.

Gold Choice is doing very good, and they're very friendly. Mom likes it there. She says the food is good, and people are nice. I would recommend them. The staff always gets back to me with questions and seems to follow up on everything very well.

Gold Choice was nice, but their prices weren’t as low as they claimed once you get in there. It’s as much as what I’m paying now, and I was trying to find some place cheaper. The people were very nice, it’s a nice facility, and I would take my mother there if I didn’t already have her settled. The rooms were very nice and a little smaller than where my mother is now, but they were nice and very clean. They had a beauty and barber shop. There were people in the main room and out in the courtyard doing some things, so they had activities. The dining area was very clean and nice.

My parents moved into Gold Choice Ormond Beach a month ago. I chose it because it was the best one I looked at. It is more expensive, but I will recommend this place.

I visited Gold Choice for my mother. They accepted Medicaid but they wanted to put her in a 10 x 12 room. My mother was like, "I'm going to spend the rest of my life in a 10 x 12 room? Please don't do that to me." It was heartbreaking. The facility was OK except for the size of the room. The staff was very good and very helpful too.
Provider Response
Thank you for the kind words about our caring staff. We appreciate the time you took to review our facility; however, the room size comment is not correct. We offer 8 different room styles and layouts ranging in size from studios to large 18 x 20 suites with covered and screened porches, all of which are made available to Medicaid Program recipients depending on their preference and family budget. We listen to our visitors about what layouts will fit your needs and budget, and we believe it is unprofessional to show layouts priced above your budget unless specifically requested. Our professionally designed properties have one primary goal, to create a "home-like" environment. Apartment designs attempt to re-create what many of us consider our sleeping areas at home. As in our own homes, we spend the balance of our day enjoying the benefits of our dining, living, entertainment and outdoor spaces only to retire to our quiet sleeping spaces either for a mid-day nap or to retire for the evening. If you would be interested in seeing other room types, we would welcome the opportunity to show them to you.
