What ongoing training does the staff receive in dementia care?
Our staff receive Dementia training monthly at our staff meetings, We often bring in outside training from a vendor. We are currently watching Teepa Snow videos, to have a discussion afterwards.
How many staffers are on duty in the daytime and overnight?
We have a minimum of two care staff on each shift. During the day, there is always at least one manager to assist as needed, seven days a week. Our Director of Nursing is in the community M-F.
What programs or activities does Ormond Manor offer to keep residents engaged? How does the staff engage residents' long-term memories?
We offer aromatherapy, morning exercise class, afternoon walks outside the community, shopping outings, ice cream outings, bingo, arts and crafts, gardening, cornhole and beach ball volleyball, happy hour, live entertainment, WII games, tea parties, picnic lunches, church services, and many other activities to keep our residents engaged and healthy. We get the residents’ life story upon move-in and for those that do not typically participate in scheduled activities, the staff will meet one on one with the resident and use their life story to engage with them.
Who assesses residents' health and cognitive functioning? How often is that assessment repeated?
Our Director of Nursing assesses residents on a consistent basis – she is on the floor engaging with them, and knows when there is a change in behavior and follow-up with their physician if needed and the family.
What techniques does Ormond Manor use to support memory care residents during mealtimes?
We offer choices during all meal times. Our Dining Director is usually in the dining room during meals, and if she sees a resident that is not eating, she will sit with them to see why they aren’t eating. If they do not care for what is served, she will make them something else. Our care staff assist those who need assistance with feeding. We have music in the background during meal times for relaxation, and aromatherapy. Our DON is usually in the dining room during meals to observe and assist if needed.
How does Ormond Manor keep residents' families informed about their loved ones' health?
Our Director of Nursing and Executive Director keep in touch with the family with any concerns and their loved ones, whether it be regarding a health issue, behavioral, or mental status.
Describe the neighborhood around Ormond Manor. Is it located in a residential neighborhood, a business district, a rural setting, or other type of locale?
We are located in a mostly rural, wooded area with a few doctors offices down the street, but not visible from the community. There is a YMCA across the street from us.
