"CountrySide Lakes was a very family-oriented home. It had more sense of community than being in any kind of care facility. They were like a family, a lot of people were out doing things, they were engaged and very friendly, and called people by name. The staff members who gave the tour were very cordial, very polite, and very accommodating to the requests that I saw coming in from people inside. This place is a combination of assisted and independent care. One of the advantages that I saw about this place is if you go from independent care to assisted living, you don't move your room or you don't move buildings, so you stay in place. I think my mom would appreciate that. It's a multiple-story building with an elevator in a centralized location. Then you have branches that come off of the center of the elevator, where they have a doctor's office in the middle, they have a beauty shop there, and they have an open atrium area right there on the top. The rooms branch off in either direction. Some rooms have views of the water because it's surrounded by two lakes. The people in the room they showed us have been there for a very long time, and it has not been modernized, unlike the one that they showed us originally. The facilities were very nice, but the rooms have the same individuals and have been around for a long time so it's dating. They have activities like bingo and live entertainment pretty much every day. You have to add in the cost for the assisted living care, where a lot of places kind of have the independent living and assisted living prices that are the same. They have kind of an ala carte arrangement."

"I like everything about Seagrass Village of Port Orange. It was nice. The rooms were nice. We could get three meals a day. Good location. The people were nice and friendly. Everything seemed nice. Nothing wrong with it. Nothing was included in the room though. You have to bring your own stuff. But it would be enough for me. They got the stove, refrigerator, and air conditioning. Just no furniture. The lady who took me around was nice. She knew what she was talking about. She showed everything you need to know and answered all kinds of questions. It was a friendly atmosphere. I saw the menu and what they had looked good. Everything was nice and clean."

"The Grand Villa of Palm Coast was very nice and very roomy. I think the price to value for the square foot is probably the best that we've seen anywhere. You get a lot of space for the dollar. The dollar per square foot price is outstanding. The facility itself is very nice. They showed us the plans where they're starting to remodel and refurbish the dining hall. I think what they call Main Street, which is going to be inside and next to the dining hall. We had nothing negative to say about it. It was one of my parent's top three independent living choices right now. The staff we met during the tour was very personable. What I liked the most about her is she did not act or appear like a salesperson. It was really like being with your realtor that was saying "Here's a 2-bedroom, here's a 1-bedroom. Here is the space where you can put your washer and dryer. Take a look at the garage. It also has some safety features." So, it was more of a presentation of "This is what's here" versus "Oh, my God, you want to be here and no place else" I don't think most of us like being sold to. She could answer all the questions. She was very well versed in the things that they have and even some of the things that they didn't have. She had answers for them. So as an example, they don't have a swimming pool, but there is a fitness center with a pool nearby. I thought that was awesome so she didn't have to say "You don't need a swimming pool" but said "We do not have one on-site. However, there's one close to you." So, it worked out pretty well."

"We toured The Gallery at Port Orange. The look was very nice and pleasing, and as we walked through it, it felt very good. The person who took care of us was excellent. The dining area looked very clean, and everything looked very organized, and the food was very good. I liked that there was a swimming pool and a walking path that you could utilize."

"My mother-in-law moved into The Addison of Port Orange. It looks like a five-star hotel. It's very nice, professional, and extremely clean, so I chose them. They offer state-of-the-art care. They have a lot of AI things going on, like modern technologies to help with balance. They have in-house PT and OT. So, that was also very, very good. The food is excellent, too. They have their private chef. Even my mother-in-law with Alzheimer's feels like she's in a fancy restaurant, a very nice place. They have the lowest patient-to-staff ratio, so they have a lot of staff. They are a bit pricey, but you get what you're paying for with them, so that's fine."

"My Aunt stayed here and when she first toured it, she called it “homey”. I live in PA and my Aunt’s DPOA, so being able to contact a live person was important for me if I was unable to reach my Aunt or if something was off. From Taylor at the front desk, the PT girls, the cafeteria staff, the aides to Stefany in charge of nursing…all of them were available for my call and if I had to leave a message they always called back. They offer an array of services and my Aunt loved the food! They were definitely an affordable place, but the staff was kind, caring and helpful. Great place!"

"Lexington Place is very new and wonderfully laid out, and it was good. They have little apartments with a bedroom, a bath, a living room, and a small kitchen. It has all the appliances and a couple of shelves. They activities are average; they had a library and cards, and people come in and play music."

"I thought Grand Villa was beautiful and adequate for my friend. The staff was wonderful. The rooms were beautiful and recently renovated. It’s easy to get to and there weren't any problems with the parking. It’s very homey and had everything you needed. "

"The tour experience I had at Sancerre at Palm Coast was very nice. The person we were supposed to meet with wasn't available when we arrived there. So someone else did the tour, and he was pretty good. The place wasn't homey. It was like a high-end hotel, but it was very nice. The rooms were large and well-kept. They didn't have the greatest views though, because that's right there on Cypress Point. The whole place was brand new. The dining area was beautiful. It just wouldn't be what my father would want. It's too fancy. The person who did the tour was good, but I think he knew that he had such a good product that he didn't have to try very hard."

"Blue Palms Senior Living of Deland was very calm and peaceful. Nobody was running around trying to figure out what they were doing. It was very well controlled. They showed me a studio. It had a nice layout and it was clean. They had a chapel and activities room, too."

"The Sterling House of Deland (Brookdale DeLand) would be our second choice. They have like little townhomes or duplexes. Their dining room was nice. It was very nice and clean. We did eat there, and I thought the food was excellent. The gentleman who took us for a tour was very professional and very polite. Actually the people in the home were really great too because they invited us to stay, and we were able to have dinner there and sit with some of the residents. The facility was very clean. It wasn't a gated community, which wasn't bad. "
