"I have a lady that comes here from Council on Aging. She comes every Wednesday, and she is the greatest that I have ever had. She comes one day a week on Wednesday. I have two and a half hours with her, and she does more in that two and a half than others do in a week. She doesn’t ask a lot of questions, where is this, what’s this, what do you want me to do, where you want to put this; she just gets right with it. There are different people -- some know how, some don’t know how -- and she does know how. She sweeps, mops, and does not allow dust. She doesn’t help giving me a bath -- they have people that do -- but when I was on hospice, I couldn’t have two people doing the same thing or something like that; I don’t know what it is. The reason I am rating them highly was that the first day she came here, I said “Jackie I got something I got to tell you. You really got all your ducks in a row." She asked what I was talking about after I asked if she really knew how to help a handicapped person and she said she had training. I knew that there was something about that woman that other people didn’t have. It wasn’t with Council on Aging that I got my training; she said she had a job when she was in Massachusetts where they were in a wheelchair for about a month to see what they could do in a wheelchair, then they blindfolded them to see what it would be like be a blind person, and then she said they did something to see what they could do with a lot of apparatus hands and arms; I don’t know what else she said, but I could tell she is a great person. "

"I am using Preferred Care at Home of West Volusia - Orange City, FL for my friend. They provide personal assistance and light housekeeping. The caregiver is very good, very understanding, and willing to help. We do 4-hour blocks, and it was easy to schedule last minute. I found them reasonable for the service. They were responsive. They answered the phone and called me with confirmation very quickly."

"As an out of town family member, I needed someone to take care of my elderly mother who was discharged from the ER after a fall and was returning home to live alone. Prior to her fall she was completely independent. I needed to find someone that could assist her in her home with everyday activities as she was unable to do very much for herself while recovering from the fall. In Home Health Care was ordered by the physician but did not cover the Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) which are routine activities people do every day without assistance. There are six basic ADLs: eating, bathing, getting dressed, toileting, transferring, and continence. I was referred to BrightStar Care by a Social Services Case worker in the hospital. I reached out to BrightStar Care (Greater Volusia County Area of FL) to speak to someone and the Director of Operations, Masha, answered the phone and answered ALL of my questions, which were comprehensive, as I had need and experience in the past for other loved ones with these types of services. Masha arranged for her Director of Nursing, Noah, and Scheduler, Terah, to come to my mother’s home and the four of us sat down together and discussed specifically what BrightStar Care could do for my mother and what our expectations of BrightStar Care were. My main concern was that I wanted to be sure that any caregivers assigned to assist my mother were not only competent but trustworthy! Masha does this type of in- home interview with her team members to determine the needs of the client as well as assess the client’s physical and cognitive needs in order for Masha to best assist her, with feedback from Noah and Terah, to pair up what BrightStar Care hopes to be a good match up for both caregiver and client! Noah even went to the trouble to purchase, hand deliver and install on his own time, a hand-held shower attachment which he assured me would greatly benefit not only the assigned caregiver but my mother as well when she returned to independence! The next day, my mother was first introduced to Wendy and thoroughly enjoyed her! Because Wendy had a prior vacation planned that was to take place during the period of time my mother needed assistance, Masha assigned Katie to cover for Wendy while she was away. Katie came out on day two to assist my mom. Fortunately, I was present when Katie came to meet my mother and assist her with the plan of care that was implemented and reviewed by my mother, myself and Noah. Katie immediately began to take care of my mom like she was her own mother! What a lovely, caring spirit she displayed. I familiarized Katie with what needed to be done while my mother went to bed as she had been to her PCP that morning and was still in considerable pain. My mother’s PCP ordered some x-rays for my mother and while I was with Katie and my mom, the PCP office called me later that morning and informed me that my mother needed to be taken directly to the ER again as the x-ray had revealed a life-threatening condition that required immediate intervention. I informed Katie that I was sorry and that I had to take my mom immediately to the ER. Katie, without hesitation, began to help me get my mother out of bed and into a wheelchair for transport. Katie continued to reassure my mother that everything was going to be okay! Katie ensured that should it become necessary, we collected adequate items for a possible overnight stay, for my mom. I felt so comfortable having just met Katie and seeing her caring nature and straight forward and considerate spirit, I asked Katie to remain in my mother’s home and continue to do the cleaning, laundry and grocery storage we had previously discussed that needed to be done. Katie had already begun preparing a meal for my mother and stopped and cleaned up and bagged up in the freezer the remainder of the food products that needed storage. I told Katie to lock the door on her way out. Katie gave me her cell phone and asked me to keep her updated as to my mother’s outcome. She was genuinely concerned for my mom. What a wonderful care giving spirit! My mother was admitted to the hospital and I no longer required the services of BrightStar Care as my mother was scheduled to discharge to a skilled nursing facility upon discharge for rehabilitation. I returned home to a cleaned up home! Even payment of the bill was simple. My mother had authorized any charges be applied to her credit card so even payment for services was effortless! I would HIGHLY recommend this company for care for a loved one should they need ADL assistance on an hourly, daily, weekly basis or even 24/7 care. They are very reasonably priced and provided superior care and services in the short time I interacted with both the team leaders and their caregivers! Thank you BrightStar Care! "

"My mom is in an assisted living facility, and she has a caregiver from Visiting Angels. She has one particular caregiver that's with her, and that person is absolutely excellent. That person has been absolutely essential to keeping my mom going. The caregiver provides everything. She clothes her, bathes, and feeds her. She helps with assistance from the assisted living staff, like moving her from her bed to her wheelchair, or to her lounge chair. My mom can't walk or support herself. She washes her clothes for her, she keeps the apartment clean, and she pretty much does everything. That one caregiver is somebody who's really been responsible for keeping my mom kind of in contact with reality. They have really good communication, more so than even with me, because a lot of times this past year the assisted living facility she's in has been locked down because of COVID. I wasn't able to visit her and everything, but the caregiver was always there with her. "

"We use Concierge Care for my husband's aunt. We have used them since July 2021. Most of the caregivers are either CNAs or home health aides, and they have all been very pleasant and very attentive to her. They're reliable and easy to work with, and we've been pleased with them. They give her her medications, so medication management. They also provide light housekeeping and laundry, they assist her in going for walks and taking her out socially or to lunch, they prepare light meals and companionship. They assist her when she needs it for bathing, changing linens, and things like that. So it's personal care. She's pretty independent with that now, but originally, we got them because she fell and had a broken hip and needed care at home, but we've continued it because of her cognitive decline. They're wonderful. We had one or two exceptions, but for the most part, we have one person who comes all week during the day and a different person on the weekends, and they've all been very lovely. They get along well and are well equipped to deal with a patient with dementia or Alzheimer's. I would recommend them. I think they're a little on the expensive side, but when looking at other agencies, they seem to be comparable. We live in New York and our aunt is in Florida, so we're not there constantly. From our assessment and our judgment, and from what we see, she's extremely well cared for and safe, and that's our main priority. I met with most of the caregivers. We did not meet the two new ones recently, but the ones that have been with her a long time, we have met with them."
