The rooms are dirty and roaches running around in middle of the day. Food was offered of peanut butter and jelly after a diabetic missed dinner due to transport time from hospital. Obviously PB and J is not appropriate for a diabetic. Medications that were time sensitive were not ordered. No one answers the phones. My husband had to walk the halls to get someone to fix the Medications. They were rude and made excuses for why it was not done when the Medication sheet was sent by Florida Hospital the day prior. After I came the next morning and had to remove him from this place they refused to send his Medications home with him. If you love someone please do not send them here! An official complaint has been registered. Please look at AHCA reports of last inspection before sending your loved one anywhere.

My friend was in the nursing part of Hawthorne Centers for Rehabilitation and then went to their assisted living. She had an individual bedroom but had to share a common bathroom and a sitting area. It was a little inconvenient at times because she couldn't watch her TV too loud or anything like that. Other than that, it was pretty clean but it had some odor in the bathroom that was not kind of good. They had a nice little dining area that was common for everyone to go to. Their nurses seemed to be nice to the seniors, and the people that work there were very nice. The staff seemed friendly, but they always seemed to be understaffed, there's not enough staffing, but I don't blame them for that. She didn't like the food, it was sufficient nutrition, just wasn't always tasty. They have a beauty shop, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. They had an entryway where you could sit and watch TV or something. The overall value for money is pretty fair. They had people in the office that helped to get her Medicaid, and that's a helpful bonus.

I've been in Hawthorne Health and Rehab of Ocala for two to three months now. It's okay. Some days are difficult. I've been moved to three different locations since I've been here. Some of them were shared rooms, two different times. One time the patient had a stroke. He was in his fifties and he couldn't respond very well. They were always coming in and treating him for different things, and I kept waking up there in the middle of the night. I've been here in this room for three or four weeks now. I have my own room, but I share a bathroom. They have an area where they have a TV set up. In the adjacent buildings, they did have therapy and activity and so forth, and that's where I used to be. The food is okay sometimes, and other times I wouldn't eat it. I'm not happy with the food here. They do have some entertainers come in for about an hour. They'll sing songs and things like that.

The Hawthorne Inn of Ocala was very nice and I liked that it was only one floor. It was very clean and very nicely decorated. The staff lady who attended to me, I think her name was Tanya, was very, very nice and gave me a lot of information. I saw their assisted living and they looked very nice. They provide all the meals and they do the laundry too if I remember correctly. There was medication management, helping with grooming, dressing, and bathing. I think they also have activities.

First of all, facility requested clothes which I brought and lost them for 2 days, front desk said laundry dept. had them. Nobody said anything about her clothes being labeled. Manager finally explained the process. He also promised to bring mother an Ensure as she isn't eating, and have the chef speak to her and nothing happened till the next day, still waiting on chef! the food is horrible, the fish was hard as a rock. Today is Sat. and mother hasn't had a pain pill in 13 hrs, are you for real, she had to call me crying, I tried to call no answer in the front or nurses station. I figure you have a limited staff on the week end but this is not acceptable.

Hawthorne Village of Ocala is older and more established. They don't have what I consider an independent apartment with a stove. They told me because so many people over 85 have dementia, they don't want them to have stoves or tubs that might overflow. I understand the reasoning, but it's just not what I want right now. The place is in an older section, so I find that there's more road and street noise because everything has grown up around it. The staff members I came in contact with were friendly. They didn't have as many amenities as some of the newer communities, but they did have trips that residents can sign up for and go on. They had a place where you can get your hair done on premises and do some transporting for doctor's appointments.

Hawthorne Village was really nice. I was impressed with how spacious the rooms were. From what we saw, we like it there. They have just about the same amenities that the other places we saw have. We had lunch there and the meal and the service were both really nice. The dining area was very nice as well, and the staff was very friendly. The only downside is, if I were to live there, the laundry facilities service everybody. My husband and I would prefer to have a washer and dryer in our own unit.

Hawthorne Village was very nice if you are independent living. But if you need assisted living, it is a totally different atmosphere. The residents were up older people, but they were all pretty getting around well themselves. As far as the staff goes, when we went there for our first tour, there were only 2 people at the front desk. Then after about 8 o’clock, they lock the front door and if you are a tenant, then you have keys or whatever you need to get in. But after about 8 o'clock there is nobody there; they leave. It is nice if you wanted an apartment because that is basically what you are getting. If you go to the assisted living part -- and that is why they move you to another building -- then that is staffed 24 hours a day. But that other building is not the same, and we didn’t care for that area. As independent living, it’s probably a 5. But as of assisted living, with the room that they showed us, it looked like a broom closet. It was very tiny and very oddly shaped; it was a very strange layout. My dad is always not willing to go to a nursing facility or assisted living facility because if what Hawthorne has to offer for assisted living is what he does not want to go into. As far as independent living, it is a beautiful place, and I could rate it highly.

Hawthorne Village of Ocala is nice. The thing with this facility is if you require even just a little assistance, you have to go to the assisted living unit and my mom does not like that because she has friends in the independent living unit. The facility was attractive. The people who live there were nice. It was a very active independent community. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They offered us food at lunch time and it was good. The rooms and apartments were nice and spacious. You have a choice if you want a view of the woods or the courtyard.

We are in Hawthorne Village of Ocala, and it has been delightful. Everyone is very friendly. The food is excellent. They seem to be regimented. They know when to be on your floor to clean. Everything seems perfect so far. It has been a week, and we are very happy. I will recommend it to others because for people that I know and enjoy their company, I will certainly want them where I am.

Hawthorne Village is very clean, and there are no smells. The home health aides are very helpful. I found that their Social Services Department are willing to work with you, and they are very knowledgeable and helpful. My mom loves the staff. They do the medication, and they have been good with that. If they have changes, they will let me know.

Hawthorne Village is very nice and very clean. The rooms were nice, and they were friendly and they were really good. My husband seemed to like it there. I think they needed more people. Overall I liked things, they are fine.

I chose Hawthorne Village of Ocala because this is where my wife spent the last part of her life. She was there for rehab for three weeks. It is a very nice apartment and the staff is very polite and very nice -- it is reasonable. It is not that expensive compared to some other places. They have the best rehab place -- it has got the best up-to-date exercises. You can go there and work out every day if you want. They have trips to different places and they have a couple of shuttle buses that they use. I think it is a very, very nice and relaxing place. They clean the room every week and they have meals twice a day, buffet style, and the food has been very good so far. I checked out four or five different places and I liked this one the best because it is the least congested. It is next to the horse farms and there are no residential places close by.

The people at Hawthorne Village of Ocala were very friendly and nice. It was fairly new and they showed us two buildings. They had apartments for the assisted living area. If my father would stay in a facility in Florida, we would choose this.

Hawthorne Village Retirement Community was awful. It just looked like an old nursing home to me and the rooms were terrible. The dining room had stains all over the carpet. It was dirty and the showroom was not pleasant to go in. They did not have any kitchenette in any of the places. You had to go up and get the food like cafeteria-style, and I thought that was difficult for residents with walkers and canes. I knew maybe they had staff who helped but I did not see them. I knew they maybe thought of remodeling because there was another section that was new. I would suggest they improve everything.
