"The residents at Brookdale Manteca seemed happy, but it was a darker, older facility. The rooms were larger, but there were two people to one room sharing a bathroom. It could use some sprucing up. I considered it because initially I thought it was going to be less expensive, but overall it was more expensive than the other facilities in the long run. The other facilities have levels 1 to 3 or 1 to 5 of care, so you can gauge your pricing. Whereas here, it didn't have an end. They were already higher just for the initial care than the other facilities I was looking at, and they kept adding to the cost. The staff was very friendly and seemed to know what they were doing. However, I had their nurse come to the home to evaluate Fred, and then two days later, they actually came and knocked on my door and dropped off paperwork when I wasn't there. I didn't ask them to come over, so that was a huge negative. I felt that was very unprofessional on their part to do that. If I had wanted to get the paperwork, I would've called them or I would've stopped back in. Their sales pitch was too pushy, but they give good care there."

"We toured The Commons at Union Ranch. They were just so friendly. The patients were friendly. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and we just felt differently about The Commons. They were just above and beyond what we thought was senior living. They gave us some cookies as a going away gift, and it was excellent."

"Lincoln Manor Care Home is very clean. The staff seems very knowledgeable. Knowing that the owner was a nurse really helped with my decision. It is a home, so it is more of a family environment, and that's something that I was looking for for my dad. Meals are included. They do a little bit of exercise, they get out and do things, but for the most part, they don't have a lot of activities."

"Cortona Park was very nice that's why we're going to pick it. It had 2-bedrooms, which I like, so it won't be so crowded. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food was very tasty and the presentation of the food was nice. They have card games going on and they have people swimming in a swimming pool. I looked on a chart where you could sign up to go to the casinos, they go to a different casino once a month and I love that. They also show movies, they have a movie theater. One of the bedrooms is small but I can get my king-sized bed in the other one, so that was great."

It's well-kept, clean, organized, and safely built for the residents. It makes it feel very comfortable for them. The food is prepared for them. It's healthy and they're customizing it to their diet. "My mother-in-law has been at the Parkview for 3 and a half years. She's 99. As time has gone on, her needs have grown. The Parkview has maintained a high level of service for her and the staff is top notch. The administrator and the staff clearly care, although we see the occasional grumpy-ish associate, but never any with bad manners or mean spirits. The food, in my view, is better than adequate with restaurant style service for the seniors. But who doesn't complain about "institutional" food -- this is better than that. I see complaints here about the cost but you get what you pay for. There are options for those of lesser means, but they would seem to require staying a while at the regular rates. Costs can be cut if there are shared suites available to a resident. There is also the possibility for subsidized rent for local residents. We visited several facilities before placing Mother. This one was certainly the most convenient to us enabling us to visit frequently. If the Parkview is not the best, it is certainly a close second it of those we visited in the East Bay. "

"Reutlinger has independent living, assisted living, a standalone dementia unit with 12 residents, and skilled nursing. I've always said that if I ever have to be in skilled nursing, I want to live there. It's just very upbeat--even in skilled nursing and in the dementia unit. There are no dreary, dark areas. It's a lovely area and facility. I've had clients in both independent living and assisted living, and I totally like it. Among the pluses: - It's filled with beautiful artwork, much of it by the residents. - They have excellent meals, both kosher and non-kosher. And there's coffee and snacks available through the day. - Although it's a Jewish community, it's open to non-Jewish residents. - They have a wonderful rabbi--a lovely lady. - The care staff is excellent, and they have RNs in skilled nursing. - The facility is pretty and spacious--not crowded. - They have good activities for each level of care. There's always a hustle bustle of activity even in skilled nursing. I was there early one morning, and the place was filled with music. Everyone was dancing--either in their wheelchairs or up dancing with the staff. - The residents are a very, very engaged group. This is not your bingo and puzzle crowd. "

"I'm hoping to move into TreVista Senior Living. They're very proactive. They want your business. They were very competitive on the price cost per month. I went back and talked with the people at TreVista Antioch, and I had to go for the evaluation. Their nurse asked a ton of questions. I answered them all and maybe I shouldn't have, but I told her I had a problem and so she wanted to see it. Then today they called me and said that it concerned the nurse, and it seemed right at a stage that "any facility like ours would probably put you on hold until it's healed." The staff members I met were all very friendly and topnotch with what they did, but now I'm kicked off after today's conversations and I got to abide by their rules. The day I was there for my tour, they packed me a lunch; it was good. The facility looked in topnotch condition. I only saw two rooms: a studio and a shared room. If I go there, I'm going into a studio (and it's more than enough room for me). It had a kitchenette, a bathroom, a bedroom and a living room. Location wasn't a big motivator for me, but it boiled down to the money. If I progress and get worse, then obviously the cost will go up. It's three stories; you can look over the balcony of one of the floors. There's a dining area, a movie room area, and a game area."

"I toured Welcome Home Senior Residence - Pleasanton. It's clean and neat, and it smelled good. The person who gave the tour was nice, they were friendly and open to showing the guest rooms or client rooms. I spoke to a guest there, she was very happy with the staff, and she liked the facility. She thought they were good-humored and she's enjoying her stay there, that's what she told me. It seemed nice, but they didn't have any openings at the time. And that was just an impromptu visit, they were not expecting me, and they're satisfactory."
