"Grandma is in a rehab called New Hope Post Acute Care. The rehab people come in to get her to exercise, but she refuses to do them and if they push her at all, she slaps them. They kicked her out because she's been violent with the staff. Most of the staff was great, but the only thing I didn't like is that it was really hard to get the nurse to come to her room. Several times I had to go out into the hall and say we need their help. She didn't like their food. I tried it, and their food wasn't the best. Her room was pretty nice. It was a shared room that was more spacious than a hospital room. It's a clean facility. When the residents hit their button, they didn't come right away. Some people had to wait hours."

"My mom has been at Manteca Care and Rehabilitation Center at least 3 times. I like it; it’s clean. They tried their best to accommodate the food that she wanted. The physical therapist didn’t let my mom just say no and give up. My mom would tell her that she doesn’t feel like doing it today, and the physical therapist would say that they got to do it. Then she would come back in an hour and get her up. They did very well in that aspect. "

"My husband has been at St Jude Care Center. It was not a good place. The quality of care and the response time weren’t good. They always seemed to be short handed and the turnover of the staff seemed to be ongoing. They need to be full staffed. These people need constant care, and I don’t think you should cheat people out of what they deserve or what usually Medicare is paying for. The cleanliness wasn’t there, and it just didn’t feel right. I wouldn’t recommend it at all unless you went to it because it was in town. One thing they did have good there was the rehab department. The therapists there were very good; that part, we had no problem with. It might be OK for short term but not for very long term. "

"My husband is at Lincoln Square Post-Acute Care right now for physical therapy. I have a positive overall impression about them. I think there is a good morale, and their patients are kept fairly busy. When something happens, they’re on it right away. There aren’t any bad smells around, and it’s clean. Overall, it’s been a good place. "

"My father stayed at Golden Living Center Chateau. It was not nice. The room was more of a hospital setting. The administrator was terrible. She offered no assistance in helping my father find a secondary place. My father didn't like the food. The activities included playing, listening to music, and church services."

"The people at Noble Care Center are very nice. They always ask, "Can I help you?" People come and go, but my sister seems to be happy there. She likes the meals better than the other places. I think they treat her nice. They get her to her appointments. She's got a lot of appointments and she has to go for dialysis. They take her, they bring her back, and they make sure she eats something. They really take care of her. I really appreciate that. The staff is great. The upkeep is very good. It's an old building, but they try to keep it as clean as possible. Every time I go over there, they're doing something. They play bingo all the time. They watch a movie or they're sitting outside and chatting with each other. It's pretty active. They have chocolate in the afternoon if they are allowed to, or a snack or something. They really went out of their way to give her whatever they could do for her life. She needed her Medicare and Medi-Cal and she didn't have her Medi-Cal. The person there went and said, "Just give me the papers and I will take care of it." Now everything has worked out. My sister's fine now. She's got what she needs. They did a really good job on that."

"My mom is in the skilled nursing home, Avondale Villa Post-Acute, but she is in full long-term care. It is fine. It's a small community and very good care. The people who work there are very nice, and I can say only good things about them. My mom has a very bright room and there's lots of light. The food is good. She eats what she is given. She has a TV, but with her dementia, she didn't watch TV even at home, so it doesn't matter for her now. I was told that everything is covered. She feels pretty much comfortable there. She is kind of active and she likes to move or walk to do things. But it seems like, to avoid some accidents, the personnel who work there tried to put her in some chair close to the table, so she can't walk. I understand them, but I didn't think she was happy. Cleanliness and maintenance are good. I don't see any problems with it."

"My mom was at The Vineyards Healthcare Center Livermore. It was acceptable. But I don't have anything to compare it to, so I would say it was good. The staff were nice and cooperative. They stay after hours sometimes. My mom was in her bed a lot. They were delivering her food to her, and doctors supervised and evaluated her. I don't recall how often she got evaluated but it was at least a couple of times a week. Her room seemed nice. It was pretty clean, and it smelled fine. Sometimes I would taste her food for her just to make sure it was not too salty or something like that, but we never had a full meal there. The people were nice. We had to go in during COVID, so we had to do a lot of requirements for COVID 19 testing and so forth. That was probably the worst part. But that would have been at any place, too. It was covered by Medicare."

"The facility was really clean, and they seemed to have gtood activities. My big issue was some of the staff was really mean. One of the nighttime CNAs was cruel to my aunt, a resident at this facility. The CNA called her a nasty lesbian, and would yell at her and berate her on a nightly basis. Other than that CNA, who has since been terminated, the facility is nice. The staff is for the most part kind, especially the daytime staff, who I have had the most contact with. "

"The staff at Meadowood was very nice. The rooms were spacious and clean. They place was homey I didn't like the food at first because it was Filipino food and there's a seasoning or something in there that I just couldn't stand. But they had an alternative menu which I preferred and from then on, it was good. I am pretty much happy there. The only thing that they didn't do very is to answer my brother because I had to wear diaper because I had to take this antibiotics that gave me diarrhea. I was still on diaper and nobody wanted to hoop the pants while I had the diaper, he came in a timely manner and assisted me. They need to improve on the reaction time to the patients. But allin all I am satisfied. "

If these options aren't available to you, check if your loved one has long-term care insurance or contact your Area Agency on Aging to ask about local financial assistance programs for seniors.
