What ongoing training does the staff receive in dementia care?

We are contracted with various home care agencies to provide ongoing training to the staff members.

Describe the overall population of assisted living residents at Point Loma Elder Care. What is their average age? What are their favorite things to do?

We have a wonderful mix of men and women in our community, who enjoy going out on walks, stretching exercises, playing board games, eating together family style and arts and crafts activities. Average age is 80 years.

What programs or activities does Point Loma Elder Care offer to enrich residents' well-being?

We have volunteers who come and spend time with our seniors on a daily basis. They are called as companionship volunteers who take the residents out on walks, read to them, play games with them. We also have a singer who comes and sings songs of their choice. We also do special pinning ceremony for our Veteran residents.

We are close to shopping complexes, restaurants and 10 mins from beach.

What transportation services does Point Loma Elder Care offer to assisted living residents?

We do not provide any transportation services, but can arrange for MTS buses for our residents to go out.

What makes the chef or dining program at Point Loma Elder Care exceptional? What kind of menu can assisted living residents expect?

We take immense pride in our caregivers. They prepare nutritious, fresh and healthy meals for our residents and we have never had even 1 complaint regarding the food. We provide 3 meals and snacks and desserts. All meals include juices, fruits, salads along with entree and desserts. We serve tacos, lasagna, spaghetti, noodles, pasta, pizza, sandwiches, burgers, among others. We also try to bring take out food from restaurants for a change of taste.

What safety features or security measures does Point Loma Elder Care offer to assisted living residents?

We have two 24/7 caregivers on our staff. Our property is completely fenced and we have alarms installed. We also have under the bed alarm systems so that our caregivers can get notified of any movements in the middle of the night.

We constantly text/email pictures of our residents and the activities we are doing. We also update our facebook page on a regular basis and post pictures.

We accept small dogs, who can live on the property and enjoy their time in our beautiful backyard.

Staff members are trained when they are hired and then periodically, at least annually, if not more.

2 staff at all times

We have under the bed alarms for all the residents.

We have companionship and music volunteers who entertain residents and do several activities with them

Staff members, and at least every 6 months.

Through texts/emails/phone calls. We are very very interactive and provide real time updates to the family members.
