My mother was at Gem Transitional for six weeks. It was a very clean community. It's old, but it looked nice. The room looked a little broken down. It needed painting, and the furniture was old. The staff there was pretty good and pretty caring. She shared a room with two other people. They had a big common room where they had activities, and then they had a great outdoor patio space, which was really nice. My sister and I went out there and talked a lot. Everybody had a hospital bed, but everybody also had some sort of personal blanket on their bed. They had a lot of long-term residents there. I was told by the hospice that we are lucky to get her in there. There was an incident there where mom ended up with a very deep gash on her throat, and nobody could explain to me how she got that. She didn't have any blood on her hands or anything. They were trying to tell me that she picked a big hole in her throat, but I didn't see it. I don't see her doing that, and why doesn't she have any blood on her hands and no blood on the sheets? It was really weird. It remains unresolved to this day. We talked to everybody who was on duty, the people before, the people after, but it just wasn't able to get resolved.

I visited a family friend who was residing at GEM for short term care and I have to say the facility is very clean, staff are friendly and it’s a very nice facility. I highly recommend GEM for your long term or short term stay. Residents are active in the activity room and staff are respectful and friendly.
