We have my brother-in-law in the memory care facility of Ivy Park at Escondido. I like the fact that it's smaller, very close to our home, and the staff is attentive. It's also all-encompassing, so he may be able to move into assisted living as he improves without having to change to a different facility. Within a couple of days of him moving in, the staff knew who he was, his name, and his room number. They use his name when they talk to him. They make sure they go to his room to check on him and to make sure he gets to his meals. They also go in and do all their housekeeping, and also go and check with him periodically throughout the day. They ask him if he wants to come out and do activities, as they have activities for the residents to do. They're always trying to integrate him into the community there. He says the food is fine. It's not home cooking, but he gets enough food. In the beginning, because he's pretty active, he wasn't getting enough food, so they gave him double portions. They started giving him more food because he needed it. It was good that they were attentive to that. He eats everything they give him, and he likes that if he doesn't want what's on the menu, he can get a hot dog. He loves hot dogs. The building is very clean, and for memory care, there is an area with a shelf with books on it. They have exercise classes and art classes. They also accept pets like cats and dogs. In terms of price, they're not the most nor the least expensive. They're kind of in the middle.

Having my parents in this facility has heartbreaking and incredibly sad. My mom made the brave decision to not tolerate unacceptable behavior by a medication tech. She reported it to new director, who called in a regional nursing supervisor from Redlands, and both of them attempted to lie and confuse my mom about the date of the occurrence. My mom had the name, date, time written on her calendar. Because of this incident, the police were called, they asked if my mom wanted the individual (med tech) arrested. My mom said no, she just didn't want her back in her room. Then retaliation started the next day by the director and the regional nursing supervisor. The omsbudman and licensing (from the state of CA) came immediately, were at Ivy for hours interviewing. Do you think the retaliation has stopped? No. It's really only coming from the (director) and certain med techs. They're behaviors are heartless, cruel and mean. Unless you plan on being there EVERY DAY FOR HOURS AND HOURS be very careful of medication techs, the director and God forbid if your loved one decides to be a whistle blower like my mom. She did it because she's looking out for those who can't speak up. They did attempt to give Seroquel (anti-psychotic) 3x and she's not even on this med. Do not, I repeat, do not be swayed by all the glitter and keep your eyes peeled at all times. May God be with all of you that are trying to find a safe place for your loved ones.

I toured Ivy Park at Escondido. I was not as impressed with Ivy Park overall. The community felt not very inviting. It was not very pleasant to look at visually. It was dark, and the layout of the place I didn't like either. It was almost like a hotel style. So, you had long corridors. It seemed to be very difficult for somebody with memory care issues to navigate and find their way around. I looked at what they presented as their activities, which were not very impressive. The rooms were too small, and overall, I did not like the look of the place, especially for the price they wanted. I thought it was overpriced. It's like some place I would not want to live in, which is the only way I could describe it.

It was a very nice place. It was very clean, very friendly, and had lots of activities. They were excellent. I didn't see any that I thought were not good, all seemed really good. The staff members were very good. The rooms were very nice, newly painted, and everything was great. The outdoor was beautiful. I talked to some people that were staying there and they enjoyed and liked it.

It is amazing. The whole place is really nice. We walked through the place, and the people seemed happy ad did not look depressed. There were a lot of people out. The staff who accommodated us was very helpful.
