Nursing Home Communities in San Marcos, CA

"My husband was in Valle Vista Post Acute for about 2 months from August to October 2023. He was rehabbing from a leg amputation. My husband also has dementia, so it is a complicated situation. The care there was very good, the nurses were attentive, he was kept clean, and his wound care was superb. The most important aspect of the stay for us was the physical therapy. I can't say enough about the physical therapy group, especially Rod, he was caring and took the time to overcome my husband’s muddle mind. My husband came home being able to transfer himself to his wheelchair easily. They also worked with me to help train me on how to transfer him from the bed to the wheelchair, help with how to pick him up if he fell, and how to transfer him to the car. This has made the homecare for him much easier. Although the facility is older, it has been updated and is clean. The view around the facility is beautiful and there are nice areas to take your family members out to see the views."

"I was at Escondido Care Center for after surgery care. That was all I was there for, and it was fine. There were some little corks along anyways like sewerage problems in the bathroom and everything, but I finally got to move into a different room, and as far as my care went, I had good care. The room was better than any of the others one I had visited locally. It was definitely more cheerful than the other ones. The other ones were all so dark, bleak, and very depressing. The staff was wonderful. They had activities, but I did not participate. They came in and asked me, and I declined all of them "

"Redwood Terrace is a good community, they have independent living, and also memory care. It's upscale. They have individual cottages, and the rooms were adequate. The location is convenient to the city of Escondido. The dining area was very good, they and offer three meals a day. They have all kinds of activities, from the local theaters to different kinds of special nights like bingo. They also have music and a piano player who comes in on a regular basis."

"My grandmother was staying at Palomar Vista Healthcare Center for about a year and I went to visit her several times. The thing I appreciated the most about this facility was the fact that the staff was very friendly and accommodating. I was having a hard time dealing with the fact that my grandmother was having a hard time but the staff were very helpful in explaining to me her condition and how she was living with dementia. The area is nice and it's right next to the hospital so you know that if anything is wrong your loved one can be transported quickly. The facility is clean and even has a nice garden in the center area. I kind of wish that maybe my grandmother would have been able to get outside more while she was there since she wasn't exactly mobile at the time. It seems like she was mostly left in her room there all day and it would have been nice if she could have been taken outside in a wheelchair, even if just for a little bit. Overall it's a pretty nice facility with friendly staff that are helpful and caring. "

"I've met with the staff that cares for my wife there and they are very friendly and concerned that I am pleased with the way they are providing for her. Its a very friendly feeling when going there and the staff always wants to let me know that they are on my wifes shift. I've seen when my wife couldn't feed herself and one of the staff would sit with her and feed her. My wife has been there for a little over five years and I don't have any complaints. "

"My mom went through rehab at Life Care Center of Escondido after her stroke, and she’s doing better than she was when she went to the hospital. I was very happy with the people, the service there, and how my mom was reacting to the help. I think they did a wonderful job for her. She had some problems with the food. At the beginning, they were giving her spicy food, but her stomach couldn’t take it. I think this was documented, and it did lighten up on the spices, but the food wasn’t really very good. I believe the care was OK; mom said it was excellent. The facility was clean and well taken care of. The security there at night is not very good. Also, they were missing some of their personal things. "

"I think Palomar Heights is excellent. Mom had lost weight before, but when she got there, she quickly regained some weight, which she needed to. She has had a number of strokes, so she's a little bit delusional and could be quite troublesome. But the staff is so kind, good-natured, and humorous. I really have nothing but good things to say about Palomar Heights. "

"My mom was here in October of last year. She had excellent care. All the staff was very attentive to her needs. They were aware that this hospitalization was really hard on my mom and our family. They went out of their way to help us with things like doing a will, helping fill out long term care insurance paperwork. Things that other facilities have told us we have to do ourselves. They were all superb "

"Vista Knoll Specialized Care Facility was my favorite place to be in. The grounds were beautiful with trees and flowers, and I'd go out there in my wheelchair. They get you dressed every day, which I did not find in other places. I would go to lunch and then go outside and sit under the trees and just listen to my music, which I loved doing. They made my being away from home a lot easier. I didn’t care so much for the staff, because a lot of them were very young and they would goof off a lot. They would come into my room and get me ready, and then they would stand around and talk about what they did the night before. The physical therapy was excellent and the food was delicious. They would bring in people that would entertain us and it was fun."

"I was in the skilled nursing facility of Glenbrook. I was there for 12 days. The staff that I had was very pleasant. The facility provided excellent physical therapy. The rooms were large and certainly comfortable enough for two people. The nursing staff was friendly. You can choose to eat in the dining room or in your own room, and the food was delicious. My experience with them was good. It was a very pleasant place to be. They had something going on every hour, and they had music and movie hours. The dining room was very pleasant. It has linen tablecloths and napkins, and they had excellent servers. "

"My husband is in Bayshire Carlsbad. We're gonna move him from the nursing section over to the assisted living part. He's happy there and he's comfortable. He's hard to please, so the fact that he likes it there, I think we're gonna keep him there for now. He said he likes it a lot better than where he was. I like it because they communicate. I wasn't getting any communication from where he was at all about his condition and any improvements that were made or anything like that. He got there on the 7th, they had a conference call with me on the 14th to go over his status and whatnot and they just have very open communication. The staff is competent and they call me if there's anything that they need or he needs because he tends to be stubborn. He gets up when he shouldn't be getting up, so they make sure to call me and let me know everything that's going on. I haven't had any issues. He's really hard to please and he's happy there, so it must be very accommodating for him. He says the food is very good and it's a lot better than what he was used to. It's very clean, very calm and pristine. They do a good job keeping it up."

"Seacrest Village at Encinitas was very clean, very attractive, very warm, very hospitable, light and airy, and the grounds were lovely. As soon as you walk in, you know that that's where you want to be. The person that assisted me was very good, very courteous, very understanding, and very thorough. They have yoga, therapy, water exercises, an indoor swimming pool, a fitness center, activities, a theater, and they also have a service to take you to all kinds of shopping centers and to doctors' appointments."

"I like everything about Casa de las Campanas, but the upfront cost was very expensive. If you’re going into a two-bedroom, it’s going to cost half a million dollars, and more than $300,000 if you want something smaller. The monthly charges are reasonable though. I would rate the facility 5 stars, but I would give a 2-star rating for the upfront cost. "
