Assisted Living Communities in Southampton, PA

"I toured the independent living part of Sunrise of Abington, and I was happy with it. The only thing that I was a little hesitant about was the laundry service. They only have laundry facilities on one floor, so you would have to take your laundry all the way up and down. Other than that, I liked it. It was bright, and it was nice. I looked at their 2-bedroom. Of course, coming from my house, everything looks small. The ones I've seen where my friends are in, it's the same. It's doable. In fact, I've seen some that are smaller, and my friends are OK. It's very, very well-kept, and the people were very friendly. Nick, the person who gave the tour, was great. There was another woman (I think she's with activities or something), and she came out and welcomed me. She was very friendly. I didn't see very many people. I guess they were in their rooms, or they were out. Their dining area was very nice, but I did not try the food. I didn't go on a mealtime. They do serve continental breakfast and dinner. The reason that I was interested in them is that they also have assisted living and Alzheimer's care in the other building, so it's all in one. I could also take my cat."

"I went to Juniper Village at Bucks County and I was greeted properly. They've got very nice people. The place was clean. They showed us several apartments, several of the crafts that they were doing, the restaurant, and the menu. Everything was great. They have studios, one bedrooms, and two bedrooms. The staff during the tour was very nice. They have a church on the premises. The buy-in was cheap. We tried to set up several luncheons, but we weren't able to do that."

"I couldn't afford Sunrise of Dresher, but I did like it a little bit better than some other places. It had a nicer ambience and it was more spacious. They have more activities and it seemed more interactive. They had more arts and crafts, Bingo, and movies. It seemed like each resident has his/her own team of personal home health aides as well and that seemed good. The rooms were very up-to-date and well decorated. They're classy-looking."

"Wesley Enhanced Living Pennypack Park had a very nice room layout. They were roomy and we kind of liked where the kitchen was in relation to the rest of it. It seemed to be very good. The two people that showed us around gave us a very nice tour. They spent a lot of time with us. It was very clean and nicely decorated."

"We went to The Solana Doylestown. It's pricier than the other facility but still a very nice facility. They have quite a few activities. They have a van, they said they go out to different places like the casino, and they also have people coming in for entertainment. The facility looks very nice; it's new, and it's only six years old."

"I did not eat at Sunrise, but the dining room seemed nice and spacious. I don’t think I saw any activity there. I saw the rooms, but I just didn't see anything at the time. I think their outdoor sitting areas and dining areas could use some expansion. "

"My father was at The Philadelphia Protestant Home for 10 days of respite. He loved it. It was good. The community was very nice. Everybody was very friendly. He enjoyed himself for the first two days and then he got weak. He didn't eat like he was supposed to eat which made him weak. He stayed in his room, but they brought meals for him to eat. They tried to convince him to keep eating, which he did. He just didn't have a big appetite away. My father's room was nice. He had his own bed. Everything was like 3 feet to walk away from. He has his bed and his reclining chair, which he loves. They helped him get up out of the chair, which was great. He had a little refrigerator, which he never used. The staff members were perfect. They had a nurse and an aide. And when my father would go out in the hallway to visit people, he made a lot of friends there. The price was nice for the care that my father got, the activities they had, and the food they served."

"My mom was at Legacy Gardens of Bristol. I really liked that community. The problem was they didn't have a separate memory care unit, so she was mixed with other people. They said that they handled dementia patients, but they said, "We couldn't keep her here because she wanders," which to me is the definition of dementia. So we had to move her out of there quickly. I liked the building. It was a nice little building. I liked that it was a smaller community. They had a community room right by where my mom was. They always played card games with the residents. They had games where they would throw a beach ball and they would all take turns catching it and throwing it. They did some arts and crafts with them. It was a nice community, but I don't think it is a good place for somebody with dementia."

"It is very nice place, and the staff is very warm. It’s kind of like living in a nice community hotel. The rooms and apartments are very nice and modern, and it’s a new facility. The dining room looks like a hotel. Father is in memory care, and he loves to walk. Environment is very nice and wonderful community. I would recommend it. Kylie -- who is the person that I dealt with -- is always available to you no matter what. "

"We chose Springfield Senior Living Community for my parents since a lot of places are not accepting new residents due to the virus. We got lucky and found a place that would accept them. Initially they went there and it was just a basic three-story building. The first floor has the assisted living part. There's actually two parts to the place, there's the Springfield senior living part, and also the part where you can come back to do rehab. Their staff is pretty attentive and they are on the ball because they saw that my mom had a stroke. There are some small issues, like we're trying to get a hold of them because of medication and things like that, but initially they were difficult. Most of the time we're able to get a hold of people, it's just that sometimes it takes a little while for them to answer back. We can't go in there, but we can go into the lobby and the staff will bring her to us. The inside part of the facility, from what I can tell, is pretty clean and it doesn't have any sort of funky smells. It's a little bit dated, but inside it's OK."

"We got Mom over at the Riverview Estates. She loves their food. It's gorgeous. It's very clean. The maintenance is good. They just had a whole bunch of renovations. It's pristine. The view of the river makes you feel like you're on vacation versus in a senior living home. They have this beautiful atrium with rocking chairs so people can sit and just look at the river. It's a beautiful ambiance. She's very happy there. They have religious services six days a week, which my mother loves, and bingo, which she loves. They bring in a lot of entertainers, like a lot of singers. On Christmas, they brought in a choir. She hung up on me the other day to go play bingo. She's happy that they have the Hallmark Channel in their TV room. They have a giant screen TV with a bunch of chairs and that makes her very happy, even though she has a small TV in her room. They're very attentive to her needs. When she misses a meal, they come up and they try to get her down for meals. If she can't make it down because she's in too much pain, they bring her her meals. Whenever I called the facility during the first couple of weeks when she was getting acclimated, they called me back very quickly. They work to get her needs met. I think the value for the money is great. I wish she would call staff more often, but that has nothing to do with their rating. She has a habit of not wanting to ask for help, but they know to come look for her, which I find important. I'm very happy there."

"The way the dining halls were arranged into smaller groupings made new Seasons very intimate. I thought that was great. Instead of a huge dining room to walk into and think everybody is staring at you, it was just a small grouping. It was nice in that respect. "

"I went to McCallum Assisted Life. I saw a room with a shared bathroom. The staff told me the price point. They have a doctor every month that comes out to the location. They do things for them, they have activities, and they do the medication. I like the location. The staff was very friendly, very knowledgeable, and informative. It's an older facility, but it was nice and clean. They had a patio. They did show me the board where they have activities."

"We did Brookdale of Florence, but they did not have memory care. They didn't know if my mother would qualify to be in assisted living. She had not had an assessment at that time. We didn't taste the food, but it looked like a nice setup. We got to meet the chef. The rooms were spacious."
