Assisted Living Communities in Pennsburg, PA

"The assisted living facility that we would go to would probably be Abode Care of Allentown. What we liked most was the interaction between the staff and the residents. As we were going around, the staff member who was taking us on a tour stopped and talked to the residents. She seemed to know them all by name. One of the residents, when she heard that we were looking at places for my mother, said, 'Oh, you have to come here. It's great. It's wonderful.' So the residents like it. Along the way one of the residents was having a personal crisis, so she stopped and she took care of that issue. It was the interaction between the staff and the residents that appealed to us most. It was a little bit older than some of the other facilities that we had toured, but it was clean, and it was nicely arranged. The rooms were a nice size. The staff was very knowledgeable about the facility. She interacted well with the residents. She had a very good balance of seeing our needs and seeing to the residents' needs as we toured the facility. We saw the eating area, but we were not there during mealtime. They had shower schedules, the rooms were a nice size, and the facility was well kept up and clean. "

"Atrium of Allentown was a new facility. It's only a little more than a year old so it's a beautiful place. They had outside areas and the rooms were very nice and good sized. The staff spent more time talking with me about what was provided and what's covered in their fees. People were sitting out in the common rooms or in the dining area. It was a nice place."

"I visited Paradise Manor. They were very accommodating and very knowledgeable. The place was clean. It seemed to have everything there that was needed, and it's close to where I live. I believe it's like $1,500 a month. I didn't see many activities. I basically just saw the amenities. It's more of a studio-type environment."

"After two weeks in the hospital my mom developed skin breakdown. When we moved her to Manatawny Manor for her rehab, she was there for two months and she never had a skin breakdown. They were obviously taking good care of her needs so that she wouldn't have a skin breakdown. I thought they really took excellent care of my mother and I was pleased with that. "

"I'm leaning towards Phoebe Allentown. They were very, very nice, I filled up all the applications, gave them the documents they wanted. The apartments were much smaller than what I have here. They have transportation, one meal a day, socialization and activities, and in their continuing care they have assisted living down the street and nursing home. It was clean and it is maintained, there's no problem there. The staff was very wonderful."

"Heather Glen Senior Living was where we had wanted to put my father before he fell and everything went south. They said they wouldn't be able to meet his needs there. He needed a double assist for everything and Heather Glen wasn't able to handle that, so we had to find someplace else that would accommodate his needs. I loved Heather Glen. It's a two-story building, so everything was not on one floor. We thought that was a good fit for him. The apartment was clean. You could take your own furniture. You could put anything you want in there or hang anything. The staff was very good and she knew a lot of the residents and she's very friendly with them. The dining area seemed fine. They gave us a calendar of activities. It had the usual like bingo and songs and they had trips planned and everything."

"We chose Columbia Cottage Collegeville for mom because it's a small community, and the caregiver to resident ratio is favorable. They offer a variety of activities and services, and the location was also beneficial. They had 10 levels of care from independent living all the way through to skilled nursing. It is great because she can age in place, and the staff has been amazing. They have three different sized rooms. My mom is in a 312 square foot room (which doesn't sound like much), but it is perfect for a single person. There's a full bathroom with a walk-In shower and pull cords by the bed and in the bathroom for assistance. There are three different sized rooms. They're generally on a wait list, but we happen to call them at a good time. They have one available. It's really like a big home. They have a living room, a TV area, dining room, and kitchen (which is all open for the residents to use as they like). They also have a hair salon onsite, as well as a physical therapy area. They have therapists that come in several times a week and a hairdresser that's there two days a week. They also have a nurse on-staff 24 hours a day, and they're great. If there's any medical assistance needed, they're there. They have various activities like arts and crafts, games, bingo, and movie night. They also have a vehicle, so they can do scheduled transportation to doctor's appointments. There are two courtyards inside the building, so residents can go outside and enjoy them without the risk of anybody wandering off. She likes the food so far."

"I toured Above All Senior Living. As soon as I walked in I felt the friendly atmosphere of the place. The place was very clean and that was one thing I was looking for since I walked in. Even the eating area was clean. I asked the other people living there how the food was. Everybody said it was excellent. So I did meet the cook and I did talk to the cook a little bit. It sounds pretty good. The rooms were big. The rooms were nice. The person who gave the tour was very polite and very nice."

"Amity Place was super clean and everyone was very kind. It's assisted living and I had gotten the full tour of the whole place including where they eat, where they can cook for themselves, beauty salons, craft centers, and their patio outside. I got to see a room that would be for whoever you're putting there. Everyone was so nice and the residents seemed very happy. They seemed very content and they were kept busy if they wanted to. There were a lot of things going on and that was right a couple of weeks before Christmas. They have a big room where they can sit and watch TV, do crafts, and cook and do many things. It was just out of our price range. The person who gave the tour was awesome. She answered all my questions, gave me pamphlets, and told me what was happening and what they had to offer which was very helpful. I know they do cooking classes, beauty salons, and cooking classes. They have outings too where they take them places. You could also take the residents out like I could pick my mother up there and take her to do something. They have no problems with that. You just sign them out and sign them back in. Their eating room was big, very well-lit with natural light, there were a lot of windows, and it's very clean. It was nice and clean. The individual area where guests could cook if they wanted to was kept very clean, too."

"We moved into Riverton Enhanced Senior Living. My husband needs assisted living, but I'm independent. I wanted to be in an apartment together, and that's what they offered us here. The girl, April, is so nice. It's been such a wonderful experience moving here. When we were touring it, the apartments seemed so appropriate for two people to live together. There's not a lot of room, and they take care of everything for us. They do the cleaning and cooking. I haven't had to do much at all. They serve three meals a day, and they give you plenty of food. If you don't want much, you tell them you want a small appetite, and they give you less. But if you still want more, all you have to do is ask. My husband gets three meals a day, but I'm independent living, so I only get one meal a day. But I'm allowed to eat all three meals. I just have to pay for the first two, and I don't mind doing that because I like having my meals with my husband, so we enjoy that. The staff members are wonderful. They're always asking what they can do for us and if we need anything. They're very, very friendly, and they take the time to talk to you when you want to talk. They don't just brush you off. They're just great. The food is delicious. Some of the things we don't like, but they all taste very good and are well prepared. They keep everything nice. They have an exercise class and a coffee talk. They have something going on every single day."

"My mother is going to move into St. Mary Center For Rehabilitation & Healthcare. I like the price. You can get the room furnished or unfurnished. They can provide it for you, or you can furnish it yourself. The one-bedroom was pretty spacious. There's a walk-in bathroom. We're trying to keep my mother on the first floor, so we had to wait a little bit. But the place was nice. It was not luxurious by no such imagination, but it was doable. The people were friendly. The director was very good and informative. It's close to family, which is why we picked it. They provide three meals a day, too. There's a courtyard and a meditation outside that is good for Catholic services."

"My grandmother will be moving into Bethlehem Manor. It was homey, personal, and small, which is what we wanted. The staff is super friendly and has a lot of high energy. I saw two room options. It was very nice. The rooms are a little smaller than other places, but we don't need a big room.It was perfect for us. We are welcome to bring our own furniture, which she will be bringing some of her own. I went at lunch, and the dining area looked really nice. It doesn't look like a restaurant, and it doesn't look like a cafeteria. It's nice and casual. There was a variety of food. It was just a nice pleasant place to sit down and eat. She'll be in the care plus level. It is assisted living, but she gets a little bit more checking than the base level. They have a beauty salon, field trips that will be resuming to stores and activities, church services, and a garden club. When I was in there, they were doing a monthly theme. Once a month, they do a theme day. They have certain activities that were going on there and people talking. Their theme was jungle, and they were doing some activities and crafts with that. I didn't ask about anything else. I thought that was enough to keep her busy. There might be more stuff for more active seniors. It was absolutely clean. The bathrooms were wonderful. There's not a single step the whole way, not even a step into the shower. The whole facility was very wheelchair ADA compliant, which was really nice."

"My aunt is staying in Whitehall Manor and I have been there a few times visiting her. The facility is very bright, inviting and cheery. It is a much bigger facility. The room that she got is very spacious. It has high ceilings. It also has door on the outside of her room that has access outside without going through the hallways. We were just there visiting her so I don't know much about the staff and their activities but I would recommend this facility to others. "

"I toured Blue Bell Place. They're an excellent place, I liked the ambiance and everything, but it has two or three floors, and the elevator would be an issue. I went to their memory care as well. I saw the lady who gave me the tour, but I also saw enough staff working around there. I saw several people in memory care and several people in personal care. The staffers were friendly and long-term, there's a nurse's aide who's been there 17 years."
