"I looked at The Villas at King David. It was a beautiful facility. They had very nice spacious suites. I liked everything about it; it was just too far away from family for me. But they have beautiful rooms. They supply refrigerators and microwaves. They have a laundry service, and they have a barber there. They have everything you need. The staff who gave the tour was very friendly and very nice. She explained everything well. With the questions I asked, she was very patient with me. She did a good job showing me everything. I even sat down and ate lunch with her, and the food was good. The building itself was very nice and very clean."

"I had an in-person tour of Cedar Living at Mayfield Heights. I liked the fact that they were small. They didn't have a whole lot of people there. They were able to answer all of my questions. I liked the fact that it was clean. They had a courtyard and a big indoor dining area. I think it's near a hospital, shopping, and restaurants."

"We went to Brookdale Wickliffe. We were able to see the one-bedroom and two-bedroom that was available. They were fine. The facility itself was away from the road. The outside is kept nicely, the regular outer area is nice, and it's manicured very well. It looked great."

"My father has moved here. They were very personable, the care workers are hands-on and attentive to my father. As a result of that, he is acclimated very well to the facility. He's getting the proper care from a medication perspective, and physical therapy perspective, and they have activities. He likes the social aspect and environment that they've created there. He enjoys the food and the facility itself, they're well-rounded. He's improved significantly since he's been in there. His room is very spacious, clean, and very nice. It has a microwave, washer and dryer, and a very spacious bathroom, it's just a nice place. We're very pleased with them. I haven't tried the food but my dad likes it. My dad plays bingo there, he goes to their movies, he's gone out to breakfast, they have a trivia night and they have a happy hour. He's well-received."

"I had lunch at Deer Creek Lodge and it was OK. The facility was very nice. The people and the staff were really friendly. The rooms were a very nice size compared to other rooms that I've seen. It was very clean."

"My uncle moved to Maple Ridge Senior Living. I like the family atmosphere, the kindness, and the welcoming staff. They are willing to accept my uncle's limitations and do what they can to help him get well. I love the activities that they offer and we love the cottage setting. You can tell that they picked their staff very carefully. I haven't tried the food but the meals are very nutritious and well balanced. When you walk in the doors, you hear beautiful piano music playing, and it's just a beautiful facility. Everything's brand new and the furniture is new. It's a beautiful cottage and the grounds are gorgeous. The flowers are blossoming. They have a pretty gazebo. They said that in the summertime they do concerts outside for the residents. They have the rocking chairs out for them to sit in the beautiful weather. I also like the fact that they can do his laundry. It's a superb care that he's getting."

"I toured StoryPoint Shaker Heights. The place is beautiful. The decorations are beautiful. The care they give the people is beautiful, but it has a small stench. That's a new building, and it should not have a urine smell to it. I have friends who stay there as well. The staff is nice and friendly. I guess everywhere is short. I've been there several times, but the last time I was there, I guess they had a few issues with staffing being short as far as assisting the people getting dressed, and then the kitchen help. They have three people who help with the kitchen, and the actual cook didn't show up that day. So, they had to order food out, which they were on point with ordering the food out. But I think that there should always be a backup cook and not just one person that's being a cook. The facility and the upkeep looked beautiful. I mean, like everything, when you come in, it's beautiful artwork. It looks clean. I don't know if they're not using some bleach or something when they clean. I think they need to invest in something a bit more stringent to kill the scent because you can use basic bleach and water, and it won't have that smell."

"My friend will be moving into The Woodlands by Heritage Retirement Communities. They have remodeled it and it's up to date. They had the new modern chandeliers and new carpets. It was nice. They had the furniture, so you didn't have to bring the bed, which was kind of nice. You could bring whatever else you want in the room. The staff was nice. They were accommodating and they helped us. They worked with us with what my friend could afford. They had a nice dining room and activity room. It was cozy because it kind of goes in a circle. It was open, so you don't feel like it's just gonna swallow you up."

"We toured Rose Senior Living Beachwood and I fell absolutely in love with it. I loved the friendliness of the people, the size of the rooms, and I loved that they had a very modern kitchen. We looked at independent there because they had independent, assisted, and memory care. They thought that we could do well with independent living before we moved into assisted living. For the independent, they give you a certain allowance for meals and they still had housekeeping twice a month. It came with a full kitchen. It was absolutely lovely and up to date. It has an oven, refrigerators, the whole thing. They had a swimming pool. They had us for lunch because they gave you a $250 per person allowance for meals and that lunch was out of this world. I got a fresh salad, and it was delicious. They have Starbucks for breakfast and you can get any Starbucks you want. They had people come and talk to us. And the lunch we had was with residents that were there. They were so friendly. I was ready to move immediately, but my husband wasn't sure he wanted to live here. If we move, that's where we will go. They let us taste the food some of the other people were having and one person had a steak. It's a 5. The chef came out and talked to us, too."

"We went to Vitalia Mentor for a tour. It is beautiful. However, we are the first generation of not being blue collar. We are kind of in the middle of the middle class, and the Vitalia Mentor was a little bit snooty. It just felt like you didn't want to touch anything. It was set up beautifully. They emphasized that they had food available all the time. But, it didn't feel like my mom, who grew up on a farm, was going to fit in there. Nevertheless, I could see friends of mine bringing their parents to live there in a heartbeat. It's very nice. It is just not suitable for Mom. The building is only three years old, but it is not homey. The lady who did the tour was very friendly and very nice. She listened to Mom really well. We only saw one apartment because I don't think there were any empty units. There is also no place to sit outside there for the residents. The amenities were the same. They had a big theater set up to watch movies, which was nice. A laundry room is available, like the other place. They have a small gym. The staff didn't really say too much about the activities, which is one of the main reasons we want to move my mom where she is around other people. However, there were more people in the hallways and residents to say hello to or that kind of thing at Vitalia Mentor than there were at the other place. They have a whole kitchen thing available with all kinds of food, and it's like being at home. The room was considerably smaller than the other place, and maybe that was because somebody was living there; it wasn't just staged, and so therefore he had more stuff in there, so that could be. It turns out that they were also out of our price range. The staff member who gave the tour was pretty tuned in; she did a good job."

"This facility has made a complete turn around over the years. Activities are always happening and the food is versatile! Not bad at the the pricing options either. "

"The Preserve at Mentor Ridge has been excellent. It's new and the physical plan is very attractive. My mother was in their rehab facility first before she transitioned to memory care, and their continuing care made it easier for the family and for my mom to be familiar with the place. The staff was also very helpful and accommodating in making that transition. One of the things that we valued with it is there is not an escalation of fee-based pay that other facilities have. It's not like they're charging you from this rate and as your needs increase, they would charge you more. There is a flat fee at this point. So, there was an ability to know what your costs were going to be and that it wasn't going to be an escalating cost. The food has been very good. My mother went through a significant weight loss, so she is needing some encouragement and they provide that encouragement to the residents. They go out and assist them with getting to the dining room to eat and to eat in a community setting as opposed to taking food trays to the room. They only do that for some people who are more homebound/room bound, but if there's any ability to ambulate, either by walk or wheelchair, everyone is encouraged to get to the dining room and have a community dining experience. There are extra activities where memory care residents can participate in the assisted living (which is on the second floor) for social events like ice cream sundaes, happy hour on Fridays, and musical entertainment. There is the freedom to transition between the two areas, which is nice for increased activity. They also have open kitchen areas with stocked refrigerators where the residents can acquire juices, puddings, and applesauce for them to snack on between meals."
