Assisted Living Communities in Yorktown Heights, NY

"Sunrise of New City was over my budget. I saw an apartment that I liked, but I can't afford it. It's older, it's not updated, but it's not bad. The outside was very pretty, but the inside could use refurbishment. The apartment that I saw, the one that was almost seven hundred square feet, which I loved, I would give a five, but I couldn't afford it. The food was fine for me."

"Benchmark Senior Living at Ridgefield Crossings was very nice but very expensive. The staff was very helpful and informative. Everything was very nice and topnotch. The person who gave me the tour had coffee for me. The rooms were good, nicely appointed, comfortable, and adequate. People are well taken care of. "

"This place is not all it’s cracked up to be. The initial tours gives off high quality and class but it’s a very different experience living there. They’re always short staffed, people are constantly quitting. Laundry is a joke. The food is just edible and the director, Brittany, what a B word. She’s going to run that place straight into the ground if they don’t replace her sooner rather than later. She has no experience and it shows everyday. The community doesn’t like her and from what I can tell, her staff doesn’t either. The best help usually comes from the people that do not work for Highpoint which is mind blowing to think about. My advice, spend less money elsewhere for better help and a better quality of life."

"My aunt has been here for years, and I am looking for some options. She is happy where she is, but I just want to make sure, because she is 96, and I am doing her fiduciary plan. I like the people there and the cleanliness. The folks are willing to work with you, and my aunt has become pretty much accustomed to it after 7 years there. She is comfortable. The staff is fairly good. The dining room is very clean, and they mix up the menu. So, I will say it is fairly good also. They have movie nights, arts & crafts, entertainment, and music that my aunt enjoys listening to. She doesn't participate in many of the games because she is 96. The security is fairly good also. They work with me to accommodate my aunt a little better. My aunt has been there for 7 years, and I didn't want to move her and change her environment. One of the improvements could be a little more attention to the individual resident."

"The staff at Brighton Gardens of Stamford are very good and have a good sense of community. The only negative is the place is not as nice as the other places I’ve been. They don’t have as much common space for community activities. "

"My mom is a resident of Keystone Place at Wooster Heights. It is very much a welcoming home. The residents and staff are very friendly, helpful, and supportive. They have a two-bedroom, a studio, and a one-bedroom. They have a good variety of apartments. They have a great program of activities. They have bingo, karaoke, happy hour, and movie nights. They have their own theater, library, and workout room. They do non-denominational church services. They have a lot of people that come in for activities to play the piano or sing. They have activities around the holidays. They do have painting classes and a lot of puzzles. It's all in one building, so everybody can intermingle. My mom is very independent. Although she has Alzheimer's, she goes down to dinner regularly. She gets three meals a day, which is good. She has a small kitchen, mini-fridge, microwave oven, countertops, and cabinets. It's definitely worth the money. It is a little bit expensive, especially now that they've moved mom into assisted living. But I would say we feel very good that my mom's there and secure. The nursing staff is awesome also."

"Atria Woodlands is a very nice place. The people were very helpful and very nice. They even went out of the way for us. We had lunch there and the food was delicious. They have a big menu selection. "

"The scenery in Meadow Ridge is fantastic. This is the nicest facility I've visited, but it's just a long drive to my daughter's house. The building is beautiful, there's an isolated area with a lot of foliage around the beautiful grounds and a lovely atrium in the center where they can have parties. The rooms are nice, smaller but adequate. The facility has an open dining room and the food there is nice. They have friendly staff too. "

"We visited Edgehill, it was very lovely and the apartments were larger than the other community we saw. It was very nice, but you have to buy-in, and that's too expensive for us. It's a very upscale kind of place. The person that assisted us was very good and very helpful. They had an exercise room and craft room, and the layout was very well thought out."

"Promenade at Blue Hill is secure and has a memory care unit. My father's dementia was progressing. I went with my sister, and we liked the feeling of it right away because it is secure. It's all one level, so there aren't elevators, and it's small. They take 25 patients at a time. There are more CNAs to assist the residents and supervise them at all times. The nursing staff is great and very helpful, and my concerns are addressed right away and taken care of. The room is beautiful. The very little time I've been there has been wonderful. They have lots of activities that are very good. "

"Atria Stamford is more of an open place, but they do have a memory care section, which is very good. If I had to pick a place, Atria Stamford is probably one that I would pick for myself. I brought my wife down there at one point when we were making choices, and I was surprised at what their response was. They wouldn't accept her. It is a building of about nine floors, and the residents go up and down in the elevator. We felt like she would get confused by the elevator. Nevertheless, their food was better, and they have more activities. It was also clean and cheerful."

"I went to Maplewood at Danbury. It's been there for several years, and it's the first facility they built. The floors were clean, everything was waxed, and everything was pristine. I can't say anything bad about it. I didn't see a lot of people moving around, but everything was nice, and they had activities throughout the course of the day."

"Everything's fine at this community. I put my uncle there because it's close to where I live. It seems like in a nice, decent area of town. The rooms were decent-sized and big enough for my uncle. He has the room by himself, has his own bathroom, refrigerator, and it has adequate ventilation. I thought it was nice. Most of the staff are very helpful, attentive, and courteous. The food seemed pretty good, too. I've eaten there a number of times. They also had quite a few activities like sing-alongs, news in the mornings, mass for the Catholics on Saturdays, and bingo or movies a couple of times a week. However, maybe they could have a little bit of variety of food at times and to make the food not so big portions. Most seniors don't eat that much. My uncle also complained a little bit about they had too much pasta, not enough potatoes or not enough rice. The place was also small and only assisted living. They didn't have any dementia care or nursing home. They were in a separate building on another side of the street. "

"My mom moved to Sunrise of Wilton, and what I like best is that my mom is in the memory care unit. The residents were in the living room area, together and out of their rooms. They all seemed to be happy there. Although her room wasn't elegant, it was comfortable and provided the basics. The facility is very clean. The staff is friendly and seemed aware of my mother's needs. My mother was supposed to be getting up on her own into the wheelchair, so the aide was there to observe and make sure that my mother was able to do that on her own and was there in case she fell. She wheeled her, and she did not like having my mother walk. She was attentive to her."
