"My parents will be moving into The Landing of Poughkeepsie. We like the location because of the proximity to our home and doctors' offices. It was a little pricier. But a little nicer with the amenities, décor, and environment. Also, it was a true assisted living. They have 24-hour medical staff. It has pull cords for assistance, which is a requirement to secure the veteran's benefit. We've met with the salesperson, and everybody was very pleasant, so we had a positive experience. They seem to have very spacious community areas and sitting areas. They have a nicely decorated dining room and a back patio with nice outdoor gardens. They have a full schedule of various activities for residents. They offer transportation to medical appointments and shopping. They can help coordinate medical care at different levels as needed. We were shown the menus for the day in a week, so we could get an idea of what a typical menu would be. Maybe I could use a little more responsiveness from the sales representative. But again, it's all proceeding okay. They offer three meals a day and laundry."

"I visited this assisted living center when my great Aunt was living here. She got sick around the age of 60 and lived there for nearly 10 years before finally passing. The facility itself is very well kept from the outside. Gardens, paths, and fields surround the building with ample parking up front. Upon entering the lobby is spacious and inviting. The front desk help, however, have never been too particularly friendly. Not once while I visited did they greet myself or my family. Inside amenities for residents were plentiful and offered many different activities. Bingo was a hugely popular event and I even participated a couple times myself. As a whole, the inside of the building was kept in decent shape, but seemed to be a little bit older and needed some visual upgrades to see more modern looking. The rest of the staff was basically seen but not heard until a resident requested it. However, that did leave time for families to interact in private. There were many different opportunities for residents to interact with each other, other than bingo that is. Groups of different interests were apparent and jigsaw puzzles always brought them together. Overall, it was a very decent quality place for those living there. "

"Valley Vista Senior Care is pretty nice. I like the scenery, the area, and the outlook of the place. The buildings were kind of old and could have been more updated. The staff who assisted me was very friendly and courteous. The facilities looked pretty good to me, and it's very clean. They also had a salon and a courtyard, and it's close to restaurants."

"My mother attended the adult day care at the avalon for 3 years. She enjoyed it. The staff was very caring and attentive. "

"We kind of like The Fountains at Millbrook, but we have not made any commitments yet. I thought the tour was good. The person who was conducting it was very comprehensive and very knowledgeable. I thought it was very nice. The rooms were very good, spacious, very clean, very modern, and in very good shape. We didn't get to eat any food, but the dining area was a really nice and very pleasant area. They had exercise classes and art classes, and you could walk the property. They have 200 acres there, and it's just a really nice area."

"I looked at their converted fine house. The rooms and everything looked good. One downfall though is that they don't have a nurse. The doctor only comes once every two weeks. The residents here are really independent. They are their own person and have the freedom to move around as opposed to being confined. "

"I was very impressed with my experience at the Johnes home. I found their staff, amenities, and facilities to be above average. The Johnes-Holden Home is a two-floor handicap accessible assisted living facility nestled in the heart of the historic lower Hudson Valley. The resident population varies in age from the mid-forties to the late-nineties. Residents live in dormitory style single rooms; a common bathroom connects two rooms. Maximum capacity is 31 residents. Meal service is provided in a central dining hall overlooking the Hudson River and is cooked on site. Upstairs facilities include a game room, computer room and library, laundry room, and three sunrooms. All private rooms include cable TV and private phone. Downstairs, residents are often found relaxing in the piano room or participating in building activities led by the facility staff. These may include picnics, exercise, or walks around the landscaped six-acre property. The staff is attentive to the needs of the residents and maintains a geriatrician, podiatrist, and beautician on-call. I feel secure leaving my mother in the care of this facility. "

"My mom has lived at Island View for many years. It is a nurturing, caring, very personable home. The staff literally treated my mom like family, and would include her in their festivities whether it was Christmas, Easter or someone’s birthday. There are such sweet animals, both cats and dogs that always helped cheer mom up. She also absolutely loved being around the grandchildren that would visit, the joy it brought her helped pull her out of her depression she was in before living there. It is also such a unique place as the owners actually live there and got to know my mom so well and could anticipate her needs and were always so accommodating to her. She started doing things she hadn’t done in years, like crocheting, making cards, painting, and walking around the beautiful property on the creek. She also formed wonderful friendships with the other residents. They helped her with all of her needs, as well as encouraging her independence as much as possible. It was such a gift to find this hidden gem in the Hudson Valley."

"My mother-in-law has moved into The Terraces at Brookmeade. We visited a few others, but we liked this one. It's small, the people are very caring, and it's assisted living, which includes memory care of some sort. We've been very pleased. We also live very close to it, so that was another factor. The food is very good, but they repeat the same thing. Older people don't like to make choices, so they always get what's served and it gets monotonous, but it's still good. The activities are not bad, but not great. They have a bus trip that goes to the supermarket or something. They have a beauty shop. The Baptist Home is the nursing home, which is also right next door and my mother-in-law is receiving physical therapy there. She has a one-bedroom with a little kitchenette, a microwave, and a refrigerator, a fairly large living room, a bedroom, and a very large bathroom with her own walk-in shower, and a huge walk-in closet as well as a large coat closet. She gets personal laundry service once a week and they have regular home-sized laundry so that only her clothes are done in the washing machine and dryer at one time. It's not mixed in, in those humongous machines. She gets trash done at least once a day and vacuuming and basic stuff once a week. If something else is needed, it's taken care of, and they take care of her medication."

"Baptist Home is very nice. They have an excellent memory care program, and they have a different approach towards Alzheimer's, which was nice. The cost is high though. The staff is very knowledgeable, very friendly, and excited about their program, and they're very nice. It's a little bit of an older establishment, but the rooms are very nice. They have similar activities as other facilities. "
