"Having to choose a place for a family member to live their final stage of life is one of the hardest decisions to make. I researched/visited many assisted living centers in Maryland. My criteria was: high staff/resident ratio, kind and compassionate caregivers and staff, doctor/nurse available, three meals and snacks, low resident/room ratio, activities, reasonable fees and being able to visit and/or contact the facility. Arcadia met every single criterion! The caregivers, the nursing staff and the owner (Donna) are compassionate and caring! The monthly menu is awesome and the daily activities are so much fun. We are able to visit whenever we want and Donna and her staff are always just a phone call away. Arcadia is “home” and I am very aware of how blessed we are to have them taking care of Mom. Check out Arcadia’s website, their newsletter and call the owner, Donna! You will love her! Check out the pictures in the newsletter - the smiles on the residents’ faces tell the story of how truly happy they are. "

"The room was amazing, the staff is caring and loving and treated her like family. There was a general attitude of caring but still providing residents with their independence. The nursing staff and management were excellent, the food was excellent and it is worth every penny to know that your loved one is being cared for. No one ever treated my Mom like she was a child and always had the upmost respect for her. In addition, the facility provided plenty of activities with alot of them including family of the resident. We have great memories of our family meeting there and celebrating holidays with my Mom. I would highly recommend them to anyone who asks."

"We had a very good tour of Celebration Villa of Manresa. The staff did a very good job and we appreciated it. She was very friendly, and the information she gave us was very good. The residents were very friendly. It just gave us a good impression overall. The layout of the apartment was good. It was an older building and maybe the outside could have used some help. There was some chipped paint and things like that. But overall, it looked very good."

"I went to see the assisted living facility of Sunrise of Severna Park. It has a very homey type of atmosphere. It's older, and the way that it's set up, even the furnishings are a little more contemporary. They're nice and traditional. It's very nice, especially for seniors who are just looking for a little comfortable environment. They also have a lot of activities, and a very nice staff. It's very clean, and the rooms are immaculate. They offer a lot of services, like laundry service. Of course, they have the dining area, and the menus seem to be very good and very healthy. They have a variety of types of menus that the residents can select from. They can select their own dinner choices, lunch choices, and everything. They have a lot to offer, and they do a lot more than some of the others, as far as getting the seniors involved."

"I visited Lighthouse Senior Living at Hopkins Creek and toured for memory care. I met with the person who does the tours, and we talked about what kind of programs they had. We discussed the difference between assisted living and managed memory care, what kind of activities they do for the managed memory program, and what their activities are to help the memory care residents because they need a different kind of help. We talked about rooms, room management, security and safety, and on-site staff presence. We talked about things like the nurse's hours and how often a doctor comes in. We talked about their compliance with Maryland state regulations and the every 45-day evaluations of managed memory care residents. We also talked about how they handle emergencies. Part of the reason that we're going through this is that my mother recently broke her hip, so even with a 24/7 care staff, at this point, it's not enough for her. I want her to have more structure around it. We then did a tour of the facility and a tour of the rooms. We went over the differences between how they manage the relationship between their assisted living and the managed memory care space. We talked about how much of their managed memory team is dedicated to just those folks, as opposed to moving back and forth between the programs, and how much of their staff for assisted living are trained in case of issues with someone in managed memory care. We also talked about dollars and cents. They have a model based on very clearly defined levels, and there were four of them. In a couple of the other places I visited, it felt like the charges could vary quite widely for managed memory care, even from month to month. With Lighthouse, it didn't feel that way, so it was quite good. They were very comprehensive, they were very nice, and the staff had good interactions with the residents, so it seemed like a very pleasant place. The staff who gave the tour was also very good, very polite, very pleasant, and very clear and knowledgeable."

"Spring Arbor of Severna Park's assisted living was beautiful. It had very nice staff, and it was very clean and well-kept. The staff was friendly, very kind, knowledgeable, and seemed to have a strong compassion for helping seniors. During the tour, they had someone come out and welcome me and my daughter, and offered if we wanted to drink anything. They had punch, coffee, and various beverages. The accommodations were very nicely structured, and they had a lot of different areas where you could sit and meet with family members. It has a lot of spacious sitting rooms, and it was very nice. They just couldn't accommodate my mother's needs. They have their levels of care, and her care was a little higher."

"The Sheridan at Severna Park was a beautiful facility. It's the newest so everything still has a shine to it. It's only at 40% capacity, but I would expect that to change quickly. It's only been in existence for about eight months, so you can't judge staff turnover, but they were professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. The marketing representative was the one who provided the tour. The memory care units were very nice, spacious, and had a very open feeling. The dining area is beautiful, well-maintained, and spacious as well."

"Pasadena Home Care is a lovely facility. As a matter of fact, I was going to call them back today and see if they had a room opening because they didn't have a room open at the time and they said one will be open soon. I was very, very impressed with the home. I liked the environment. It felt like a home and it felt like the staff was very caring and knowledgeable. The private room was nice and it had a single bath, which was a plus for me."

"Woodlands Assisted Living was very clean, very ornate, and very fancy on the inside, as far as the foyer went. It was very nice. The apartment was very clean and small. The good thing was it had its own bathroom and shower, which was very nice. The staff during the tour was very professional, provided a lot of information, and answered all my questions. The dining area was very nice, very neat, orderly, and very well-managed. They had a salon, a library, and other activities to play."

"Sunrise of Annapolis was absolutely beautiful. People were lovely and you couldn't ask for anything more in an assisted living. It was just very expensive. That's the only drawback. They have a barber/hair salon, activities, games, and a nice dining room."

"It was great. The staff was very informative and answered my questions. The community is beautiful, bright, clean, and brand new. A lot of residents were out and active. One time, we were there for happy hour, and then we were there for bingo. It was beautiful. Their dining area is large, bright, and clean."

"I toured About That Life Assisted Living. I didn't go with anything else. I went because of the location and I liked the facility and it was very clean. The program, she ran it down to me, the things that my cousin would be doing, doctor's appointments, eating, taking his medication. If we want to put him out and he wants to go to daycare, he can. I chose that one because the lady was very professional and the house was nice."

"This place is by far the best in Anna Arundel County. Around the clock care, a knowledgeable owner, and great meals. My aunts did respite care here and we ended up keeping her here. The owner and his staff went above and beyond to care for her until she passed. My family and I will be forever grateful for the care my aunt received. My aunt was bed bound ; the team frequently made sure she was turned and had creams applied. Her label drastically improved and she did well up until her passing, which she did at-home hospice care there. Thank you so much Utopia and Mr. Williams"

"I didn't feel Alma's Grace Assisted Living was a good fit for my mom. The majority of the residents were male. The rooms were satisfactory. The staff was helpful, but I really didn't stay long. It was a quaint house. I didn't have any problems other than I just didn't feel it would be the right fit."

"I was nervous about finding a place for my mother, but when I found this one, I was so glad I did ! . Not only was my mother well cared for here, but the staff and owner of the facility made me feel very welcome . They were also very helpful in keeping me updated on my mom, who I visited frequently and who was in wonderful hands. They host alot of activities , game nights and they even go out some time to keep the residents busy . If you're looking for a place to call home for a member of your family, I would absolutely recommend this location. Thank you Mrs.Kim !!"

"I toured Angel Core Home of Care at Parkmont and looked at their assisted living. I was looking for respite care for my father, and my tour was great. The care provider gave me a tour of the place and showed me the lower floor and the upper level. My father would be on the lower level because he's a level 3. The other residents there were rather high functioning, a little higher than my father. He has dementia, but he could always blend in with them, and he wouldn't be a problem once they had him situated. I thought the house was a nice place. It has a nice yard, a nice front porch where they would take folks to have some outside time, and it was decent. If they had availability for my father, then I would have chosen that. I think they would accept a minimum of two weeks for respite care stays, and I believe they have 5 residents. The place looked fine, kept up well, and was up to par. It looked like it met all the codes, from what I could see. It was someplace that I would choose for a loved one to be."
