"Having to choose a place for a family member to live their final stage of life is one of the hardest decisions to make. I researched/visited many assisted living centers in Maryland. My criteria was: high staff/resident ratio, kind and compassionate caregivers and staff, doctor/nurse available, three meals and snacks, low resident/room ratio, activities, reasonable fees and being able to visit and/or contact the facility. Arcadia met every single criterion! The caregivers, the nursing staff and the owner (Donna) are compassionate and caring! The monthly menu is awesome and the daily activities are so much fun. We are able to visit whenever we want and Donna and her staff are always just a phone call away. Arcadia is “home” and I am very aware of how blessed we are to have them taking care of Mom. Check out Arcadia’s website, their newsletter and call the owner, Donna! You will love her! Check out the pictures in the newsletter - the smiles on the residents’ faces tell the story of how truly happy they are. "

"We had a very good tour of Celebration Villa of Manresa. The staff did a very good job and we appreciated it. She was very friendly, and the information she gave us was very good. The residents were very friendly. It just gave us a good impression overall. The layout of the apartment was good. It was an older building and maybe the outside could have used some help. There was some chipped paint and things like that. But overall, it looked very good."

"I visited Lighthouse Senior Living at Hopkins Creek and toured for memory care. I met with the person who does the tours, and we talked about what kind of programs they had. We discussed the difference between assisted living and managed memory care, what kind of activities they do for the managed memory program, and what their activities are to help the memory care residents because they need a different kind of help. We talked about rooms, room management, security and safety, and on-site staff presence. We talked about things like the nurse's hours and how often a doctor comes in. We talked about their compliance with Maryland state regulations and the every 45-day evaluations of managed memory care residents. We also talked about how they handle emergencies. Part of the reason that we're going through this is that my mother recently broke her hip, so even with a 24/7 care staff, at this point, it's not enough for her. I want her to have more structure around it. We then did a tour of the facility and a tour of the rooms. We went over the differences between how they manage the relationship between their assisted living and the managed memory care space. We talked about how much of their managed memory team is dedicated to just those folks, as opposed to moving back and forth between the programs, and how much of their staff for assisted living are trained in case of issues with someone in managed memory care. We also talked about dollars and cents. They have a model based on very clearly defined levels, and there were four of them. In a couple of the other places I visited, it felt like the charges could vary quite widely for managed memory care, even from month to month. With Lighthouse, it didn't feel that way, so it was quite good. They were very comprehensive, they were very nice, and the staff had good interactions with the residents, so it seemed like a very pleasant place. The staff who gave the tour was also very good, very polite, very pleasant, and very clear and knowledgeable."

"Spring Arbor of Severna Park's assisted living was beautiful. It had very nice staff, and it was very clean and well-kept. The staff was friendly, very kind, knowledgeable, and seemed to have a strong compassion for helping seniors. During the tour, they had someone come out and welcome me and my daughter, and offered if we wanted to drink anything. They had punch, coffee, and various beverages. The accommodations were very nicely structured, and they had a lot of different areas where you could sit and meet with family members. It has a lot of spacious sitting rooms, and it was very nice. They just couldn't accommodate my mother's needs. They have their levels of care, and her care was a little higher."

"When I arrived for my tour at Pasadena Home Care, there was a little confusion because I thought the tour was under my name, but it was under Caring. The person there was nice enough to still take me on a quick tour, so I was able to see it. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was how clean it was. It was meticulously maintained and looks like it's run by all women, so it's very nice. I wanted to ask if I could stay for lunch because that's how good the food smelled. I can honestly say, it smelled like true fried rice. It smelled so good. I noticed they had fresh vegetables and fruits, too. The person who gave the tour walked me through so I could see the different bedrooms they had. I think they had 8 bedrooms, and they all looked nice. The patients also seemed nice and happy. I was there when a doctor or maybe a nurse was with the patients. The staff was very welcoming and very accommodating. As soon as I walked through the door, everybody said hello. I think it was a very nice atmosphere. They were very kind and helpful. It was a little disappointing, and it was not their fault, because I thought it was a perfect place, but the lady there said the last room was booked the day before. She did let me know that if anything happened to come up, she would call me. It's a really nice facility, and more like a home-type place. It's a home and not a building, so it's more intimate. I feel like the people there feel like they're being taken care of as an individual, and they're not just going to check off the boxes and move on to the next room. The place was also easy to find, and the parking was convenient. The outside was well-kept and taken care of, so it's nice. I would want my dad to be able to be there because I thought it was very nice, and they seem very caring."

"Woodlands Assisted Living was very clean, very ornate, and very fancy on the inside, as far as the foyer went. It was very nice. The apartment was very clean and small. The good thing was it had its own bathroom and shower, which was very nice. The staff during the tour was very professional, provided a lot of information, and answered all my questions. The dining area was very nice, very neat, orderly, and very well-managed. They had a salon, a library, and other activities to play."

"This place is by far the best in Anna Arundel County. Around the clock care, a knowledgeable owner, and great meals. My aunts did respite care here and we ended up keeping her here. The owner and his staff went above and beyond to care for her until she passed. My family and I will be forever grateful for the care my aunt received. My aunt was bed bound ; the team frequently made sure she was turned and had creams applied. Her label drastically improved and she did well up until her passing, which she did at-home hospice care there. Thank you so much Utopia and Mr. Williams"

"I didn't feel Alma's Grace Assisted Living was a good fit for my mom. The majority of the residents were male. The rooms were satisfactory. The staff was helpful, but I really didn't stay long. It was a quaint house. I didn't have any problems other than I just didn't feel it would be the right fit."

"My aunt moved to Loving Care Assisted Living, and I love everything about it. I love the staff and the cleanliness of the house. It's very welcoming and bright. How they treat my aunt is good. I love the meals that they prepare. Jasmine, the owner, was very forthcoming in helping me and facilitating the discharge of my aunt from the hospital to her house. They keep me informed, like updates about her. Her room is very clean. The beds are good and sturdy. She has a private bathroom in her room and plenty of closet space. Her door has a number so she wouldn't get confused and walk into the wrong bedroom."

"Our tour at Inspirations Assisted Living & Memory Care of Linthicum went wonderful. The staff was very friendly. The place was very nice and clean, and the people sitting there looked wonderful. They didn't know I was coming because I was across the street when they called. So it was like an unscheduled visit and everything was very nice. The food smelled wonderful coming out. Everything looked wonderful there. The room had a bed with a TV, a bureau, a chair, and then a full bathroom. It was small, but that's all they needed. The lady showed us the activity room and there were rocks painted in the windows. She said they try to do activities every couple of days with them. The staff was wonderful. They were very nice and very concerned. When the lady was talking to me, a resident was starting to get out of her wheelchair and running to her. She excused herself and said that the resident's more important, which was true, and I agree with her. They were great."

"My wife moved into Regency Park. It's beautifully maintained. They have full services, a social calendar, choices of meals, a beautiful library, a salon, and lovely grounds outside. It's just a lovely place. The director was very business-like and very forthright in the costs and everything available, very professional. The calendar of activities and things that are available was multiple. If you didn't like the main meal of the day, they always had alternates. So, the patient would have all kinds of choices. You weren't stuck. If you don't like beans and franks, you could get something else. It was one of the least expensive of the facilities that were available. It's around $6,000 a month, and others were up to $12,000."
