Delmar, which has been dubbed the "Town Too Big for One State," is actually two incorporated towns located in Sussex County, Delaware, and Wicomico County, Maryland. The town's history stretches back to 1859 when Elijah Freeney, a large estate owner, laid out the small town and built the first house and first store. Today, Delmar, Maryland, has just over 3,000 residents, about 10% of whom are aged 65 and over. Â
Local seniors who need assistance with daily living activities can choose from a dozen assisted living facilities, including two of which are in Delmar proper. These facilities, which may also be called "assisted living programs," are categorized based on the level of care they provide and are licensed by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.Â
