Norco is a small Southern California town with a population of slightly under 27,000 citizens. Approximately 15% of Norco’s overall population are aged 65 and over. Retirees enjoy a primarily pleasant Southern California climate, easy access to the urban amenities of nearby Los Angeles and a fairly tax-friendly environment for seniors. Although California is reputed to have the highest personal income tax rate in the country, Social Security payments aren’t taxed, and while other types of retirement income are subject to state income tax, low-and-middle-income seniors are taxed at lower rates than their wealthy counterparts.

Assisted living provides a way for those who need help with the normal activities of daily life but don’t need the around-the-clock care received in nursing homes to enjoy their retirement years in pleasant, safe surroundings. The average cost of assisted living in Norco is $5,250 per month, which is the same as the overall average for the state of California.

This guide offers an introduction to assisted living in Norco and includes information on costs of care, the advantages and disadvantages of retiring in Norco and local resources that are designed to promote a good quality of life among older persons.

COVID-19 Rules for Assisted Living in Norco

Since most COVID-19 rules for Assisted Living Communities and other Senior Living Facilities are set at the state level, you can view the specific rules for your state on our Guide to Assisted Living in California . Keep in mind that every community has specific policies that they put in place to protect their residents, so you should contact your local community for more information. Additionally, you can contact your local Area Agency on Aging to learn more – find contact information here.

What to Consider About Assisted Living in Norco

Assisted living and other long-term care facilities in California are licensed and regulated by the California Senior Care Licensing Program, which has 14 regional offices situated throughout the state, including one in Riverside. Facilities are required to adhere to all regulations involving accommodations, staffing, medication and care. Interested parties may contact regional offices to view the files of individual facilities.

Benefits and Drawbacks of Assisted Living in Norco

  • Although the cost of living in Norco is higher than the state average, this is mostly the result of higher-than-average real estate prices, which don’t typically affect those in assisted living facilities. The cost of groceries is slightly less than the state average, and the cost of health care is significantly less.
  • Norco gets more sun and less rain than the national average, making it appealing to seniors who appreciate the opportunity to spend a lot of time outdoors. With midsummer highs in the 90s, some seniors may prefer to spend the middle of the day in air-conditioned interior spaces.
  • Norco has a 2.3% higher property crime rate than the national average. However, assisted living facilities are typically secure environments where residents are less likely to be crime victims than their counterparts in private homes. Additionally, Norco’s violent crime rate is 6.4% below the U.S. average.
  • Informally known as Horsetown, USA, Norco offers a rustic ambiance with horse trails instead of sidewalks, hitching posts, and plenty of fairs, festivals and western-themed events. Many retirees enjoy this aspect of the community, although some may not prefer the community’s livestock-oriented focus.
  • Norco is located 49 miles east of Los Angeles, making it a good choice for those who like to go into the city occasionally. However, those who need advanced medical treatment typically found in urban environments may find Norco too far removed for a regular commute.
