I stayed in a home called Caring Hearts Assisted Care Home in Phoenix last year. The lady owner there gets so upset if anybody is late, and I could only have visitors from 10 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon. You have to have an appointment and be there right at four o'clock, or you can't come. I also couldn't have any visitors on the weekend, and that's usually when people are free. She was so strict on the physical therapist coming in. She said if they were half an hour late, they couldn't come even if they got caught in traffic. I think the visiting hours are so restricted that not everybody can visit during those hours. I always had to have an appointment, too, even if my cousin was just going to drop off something. The home only had two bedrooms, and the owner was very skimpy in the food that I ordered protein bars. I had to eat protein bars because she didn't give me enough food. I also didn't have all my meds when I moved in, and she wanted all of them. I understand that they need that, but when I came from rehab, I didn't know, so it took a while to get the whole list corrected. The lady was scolding me until we got it fixed, while I was doing the best I could. I know she was under pressure because she had to have it there for my stay, or she would get in trouble, but it wasn't my fault. She was very controlling, and I would have liked a little more flexibility. She was super clean, though. She sprayed the floor and mopped up after anybody who walked in because she thought they could have brought in stuff from the outside, and that was a plus on her part. She's also very accurate with the medications, and it's important that she doesn't mess up anything. The only thing is that, although the food was okay, she was skimpy with it. I could have had a little bit more to eat, but she has very small portions. For example, for breakfast, I had half a bagel with peanut butter and bananas on top, and a cup of coffee. While that was very good, I could have eaten a whole bagel. I think the place could accommodate up to 4 residents, and they could have two people in each room. I was in a private room at the time of my stay, and the other guy resident there was also in a private room. The lady owner I was talking about was the only one there, and she could cook very well. She could be pleasant, but if she was unhappy, she would scold you, and that's hard when you're sick.
